I've got a 2001 Blue Dalmation that has 100 GB HD and is running OSX (10.4).The display is really fading and has a one inch black border around the edges. Is the display toast, and/or is it cost-effective to replace it?
View 1 RepliesKinda as the title says, I've fixed my macbook upto my tv with a mini dv to dvi > dvi to hdmi and it works great. But, theres a black border around whatever I view. It's manageable to watch, but I would much prefer the full screen.

When I typed this message there was a box around the text input section, after I scrolled down the box stayed in the middle of my screen (this time not around a particular section). All the other stuff on the screen scrolled up and the box remained in the same place.

I came back from work to wake up my iMac. It made the noise but the screen stayed black. I tried restarting by holding the power button- I can hear it start and the chime but still have a black screen. I tried resetting the pram, and unplugging the cord but I still get a black screen. I can hear the chime though; I'm not sure if that means anything. I just had the hard drive replaced in February so I hope it's not that. just wanted to clarify that when I restart, I get the chime but the screen stays black- I don't get to the grey screen. So I'm assuming right now that my display may be shot?

I've seen a few posts about this problem on Macrumors and through Google searches, but I haven't found a solution to the "Black Border" problem some of us are having when connecting Macs to HDTV's via HDMI cables. Nor am I certain what the cause of the problem is: Mac?, TV?, HDMI cable length?
For me, resetting PRAM by holding Command-Option-P-R at startup and waiting for two chimes removes the black border for up to several computer restarts, but eventually the border comes back until I reset PRAM, again.
I have a 55' long HDMI cable from Monoprice ("HDMI Tin-Plated Copper CL2 Rated (For In-Wall Installation) Cable (22AWG) - 35ft (Gold Plated)") running from a Mac Pro with an ATI Radeon video card to a 52" Mitsubishi 1080p HDTV.
To clarify, this is not just a black bar at the top and bottom like when watching certain DVD's, but a black border around all four sides that effectively reduces the size of your TV from, e.g. 52" to 46" whether watching movies, surfing the web, or otherwise using the Mac via an HDTV
For the past few weeks it has been going to a black screen when trying to wake it up from sleep. Either I've put it through too much work lately editing all these photos and its really tired. So, often it wakes up normally and functions fine, well, not really. It is seemingly very slow. It requires a lot of time (more than before) to open up a program or it gives me the "spinning wheel of death" when trying to go to a different page on the internet or open up a folder on my desktop. Amongst other things that require it to think. So It's just a lot slower in general than before.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a MacBook Pro (13'', Early 2011) & iMac (21.5", Mid 2011) using a Thunderbolt Cable to Target Display. Everything was working find and I could Command F2 to Target Display as expected.However, about a week about this stopped working. Now when I try to Target Display the iMac goes to a Black screen (like it's switching to Target Display) and the MacBook Pro does nothing. The iMac will be at the Black screen until I Command F2 again (or disconnect the Thunderbolt Cable), then the iMac goes back to the normal display. I have tried another Thunderbolt cable with no luck. I have perform all software updates on both machines (now both running 10.7.3) and fixed Disk Permissions. I have also found that restarting my MacBook Pro allows this to function as excepected (Command F2, Blue Flashing Screen, Target Display on the iMac). However, this is not an ideal situation since having to restart my computer is time consuming. Â

All of the icons and screens have been blown up which extends beyond the boundary of the monitor. It acts as though the display has been magnified and the Dock and other frames disappear off the screen. How to reset this to normal display?

So for the first time in over a year since I purchased it, my iMac crashed twice.The first time was this morning, i went to do something and the screen went black, and my secondary display got black and white lines. I had to restart. And the boot screen with the apple logo hung around for a while.
Then, later on the screen went whacky after trying to wake it from sleep (not full sleep just display sleep) and had a bunch of moving lines and then I couldn't see anything. So luckily I got a picture. After restart, it seems fine.I'll call apple care in the morning, but thought i'd try my luck here.
As the title states. I am looking for an external display that matches the display on my black MacBook. I want one with the same gloss finish as my MacBook, this way I can calibrate both screens to look the same. That way when I switch screens it doesn't look different.
Anyone know of a screen that looks identical to the (previous generation) MacBook? I was thinking of getting a Samsung T240 but it has a different finish. How are ASUS screens? Any screens out there that have the same gloss finish?
Sporadically when I hit the key to lower the display's brightness level, instead just dimming it one step down it jumps all the way to the lowest setting making it completely dark. I have had my MBP for about 8 months and never had this problem until the last couple days. Does this have to do with the most recent OS X update? Anyone else having this issue??
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a 2007 santa rose mbp and recently I have been having display issues. Out of nowhere is seems that my display just goes black. You can tell that the screen is still on because of the backlighting; its just the picture that seems to disappear. However, the computer still seems to be working fine. I can remote screen share and use the computer normally as if nothing happened. I have no idea if this is some kind of a hardware or software problem... Can this be an indication of the 8600M GT dying?

View 8 Replies View RelatedMy screen (AOC) goes black about 7 min. after I stop using the keyboard. The Mini light stays on. If I hit Space Bar, my music starts right up. But nothing on the screen. The only way I have been able to reactivate the screen is to shut down - manually - Mini and restart.Â

I've got an 08 Mac Pro with a 30" ACD hooked up to it as well as a 24" Apple LED display (via a MDP to (DVI?) converter) and I'm having some problems. Basically, sometimes the screens go black. It can be when the computer turns on, that one (never both) doesn't turn on... or, when waking from sleep, or, one just goes black at some point. I ran TechTool Deluxe on the Mac Pro and the GPU passed the test just fine. FYI The converter is USB powered.

Initially started with my MACPRO not waking up from sleep and has to force the shut down with power button. Finally realised it was due to my Epson scanner connected via USB...
The main issues now is with the display, black screen on startup. I can still control the volume and disk eject/close, just no display. Force shut down with power button numerous time but futile. Finally solved it with SMC reset.
it becomes an on and off issues... and continuously I solved it with SMC reset.... sometimes needed 2 or 3 resets to get it to work,and finally for the past few days... SMC reset can't solve it either... no display on startup, and same thing I can control the volume and disk eject/close. Have tried my monitor on other mac and it worked fine.
Now this is strange. if I let the mac cool off totally,after a SMC reset. the display will comes up fine...
well was using my macbook and he display suddenly went black on me. I charged and restarted with no luck I usually get a quick flash and then it continues to start up. now if I look closely the system is working properly becasue i can see my log in screen very faintly in the back ground. Does anyone know what my issue may be?

Do anyone know if it is possible to buy a skin/coverfoil/etc to cover on the alu frame around my MBA display?I have found a lot of pages/webshops that provide skin for the front/back and trackpad, but nothing for the frame around the display.
I was browsing the internet, not doing anything major, put the computer to sleep, came back 10 minutes later... black screen. I messed with it for an hour or so and determined that the video card went bad (I'm guessing. It's a mid 2007 macbook pro with the nvidia geforce 8600m. My secondary monitor remains black as well). In the midst of totally freaking out, I decided to activate the voiceover utility, enable screen sharing (after figuring out a slew of keyboard commands I didn't know about), and logged in from my girlfriends computer.
I immediately closed all the windows and applications that I had inadvertently opened during the blind wtf session, and opened up system profiler to see if it is recognizing a video card. Well, it is! It's listing the video card as a GMA x3100! Is there a secondary card in there? Cause if there is, it's not working either. Or is that just a default they would put in if it doesn't recognize a video card? Doesn't seem likely. Or, because I'm using screen sharing, is it picking up my girlfriends card? It's not, because she's using a GMA 950. Maybe it's splitting the difference?

I have a 19-inch Envision EN9410e LCD flat panel monitor. Right now I did a mirror display setup. The native resolution of this monitor is 1280 x 1024. When I went to System Preferences to change it to that resolution my LCD monitor shows the Snow Leopard desktop but it's in the middle of two black bars. I had to revert to 1024 x 768 resolution to not have the black bars show. Is there a way I can change it to the native resolution and not have the black bars on the top and bottom show up on the screen?

I have a core i7 MBP with the high res display, and when the display is showing black, a horizontal green line appears on the screen. It is only visible when the screen is showing black or another very very dark color, and the line is not visible with the screen off. It isnt something on the screen, as rubbing it does not affect it at all. I cannot post a screenshot of it, because it does not appear in the screenshot (it does on my screen, because the line is there physically, but on other monitors it is not visible).
