I took the advice of people online and created a sparse image file as a way of password protecting folders on my hard drive. Worked well for a while. These days, when I try to add or delete files from that sparse image, I get error 61 code. Why can't I write/delete from that mounted image anymore?

Twice in the last three days, the backups failed with the error message that the backup disk image is already in use.I noticed that the partition containing the backup sparse bundle is mounted twice in /Volumes -- /Volumes/X and /Volumes/X-1. The error message refers to /Volumes/X-2.The icon that appears on the desktop has not cleared as if it's still doing a backup.Looking at the sparsebundle directly gives me the "verificationstate" as 1 -- I recall reading that this is supposed to 0. Other values:
verificationdate == 2012-06-05, and VerificationExtendedSkip == false.Note that the backup drive is attached to another Mac still running Leopard. This is run fine for years over a gigabit network.

I have a Late 09 15" MBP and a WD 1TB external HD. I've never had a problem until now. I start up the hard drive, then it loads up fine and the Mac recognizes it just fine. As soon as I try to copy something - doesn't matter how big it is - I get an error and at the end it says "(Error code - 36)". It just says the file cannot be read or written. Weird thing is I can access everything on the hard drive. Anyone have any tips before I try reformatting the HD?

I sent my old and dying machine in and the service place cloned it over to my new machine. All seems to be identical except a sparse disk image that I had to protect personal files. It's just not there. I haven't been able to get onto the old machine to verify yet if it's still there. Would the cloning process have left it off the new machine? Would it's location inside the library folder of my hard drive have become noticed during the cloning process? Could the tech people have cracked it open? Nothing earth shattering on it but still personal stuff.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've deleted 6 backups already and am left with three but the size of the file hasn't changed at all. I don't want to delete the whole thing and start over.
The file size now is 330gb which is ridiculous to me that it hasn't changed one bit since i deleted 6 backups.
I moved the files from my external hard drive from the back up files made by Time Machine into the trash, as I've always done. This time I get an error message (error code 8003) and am not allowed to move the files back onto the drive or out of the trash, even after changing the permissions. I've searched the support forum for error code 8003, but find nothing that relates to back up files.

Have tried remounting Time capsule in preferences. Have run Disc utility to verify 'Time Machine Backups'. Sparsebundle is greyed out in Disc Utility.
Time capsule has 1.37Gb free space and is connected via wireless and has a wireless express as a client. Would deleting the last back up be of assistance assuming corruption?

I am getting this error "The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -50)." when I try to transfer files from my Mac Mini to my External Harddrive which is connected to my Airport Extreme. " The error does not appear to happen all the time. It does seem consistent if I am transfering files and then try to transfer more.  Â
The files I am transferring are .mp4. It does not appear to care about the size of the file, it happens with small files and large files, I can transfer some large folders (2.54G). I can connect the hard-drive externally directly to the mac mini and it will transfer any file.
I am receiving an error 5.5.4 "Invalid Email address error code 17099 indicating that mail could not be sent for Account name: "Msn". I have recently moved from a PC laptop and have been sent email messages to this account on my iMac successfully for several weeks. The email address in question is actively sending and receiving messages. I can receive email from that account.

1) I had some problems after changing my acct. name, then changing it back again. I thought it was all sorted out, but then started getting an error message when I try to rip CDs in iTunes: You don't have write access for your iTunes Media folder or a folder within it. To change I tried Get Info & have RW permission, so I don't know what to do about that. Other than ripping CDs, iTunes seemed to be working fine however after a week of the above problem, it has developed something new that may be related. I can no longer use Get Info within iTunes to correct or add to entries about the albums like composer, tracks, disk, etc Perhaps that is another RW permission issue.

I backed up all my data onto a couple of DVDs before formatting and upgrading my ststem but now, when trying to copy this data back I am getting the error message. i'm trying to burn a Windows 7 ISO my brother got from some ACM subscription thing. Anyway, every time i try to burn it, it says "Unable to burn "(cd name)". (The burn failed because of a medium write error.)". Why is this happening? Is it the superdrive or the DVD-Rs? My computer is the Macbook pro with 2.4GHz intel core 2 duo cpu and with 2GB of 676MHz DDR2 SDRAM. The DVD-Rs i'm trying to use are Sony branded.

The Internal Hard drive is 250GB in total and partitioned into 4 sections. After working fine for ages I suddenly found I can't copy files into one of the partitions. Initially I got an error message saying: "DS_store could not be tead or written. (Error code 36)" I used Disk Utility to clean up the hard drive. Which didn't help. Got a copy of Disk Warrior(4.1) to try a more effective clean up. There were a few errors that found and fixed, but i still got the same error message. Then found a utility called DS_Store Cleaner to try and force it to remake the DS_Store files. This got rd of the DS_Store message but I'm still left with another error 36 message and still unable to properly copy. The message then said: "The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "example file.doc" could not be read or written. (Error code -36).
I have also got hold of a copy of techtool pro (4.6.1) and run everything - basic, intermediate and advance scans. Everything (aside from a few minor errors on other partitions - which it cleared up easily) was fine, that partition showed no errors at all. I didn't do the full tests on the system partition though as I haven't used the e-drive function yet. The problem has been ongoing since late March.Just today I found the same problem in another of my partitions: "The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "example file.doc" could not be read or written. (Error code -36).This happens when trying to copy to either of those partitions or trying to save anything to either of them.What might be causing this and what should I do next? with the first partition to have problems I am unable to copy/write any file size (eg KB size files) with the most recent partition I found I could copy a 2.3MB Jpeg. The problem occured when I tried to copy a 680MB .mov file (there was enough space - about 1.8GB)
I plugged in my external HD last night and was told I'd have to format. I moved all my data over to a larger disk during the night so as to clear it for this. I woke up this morning, did a spotlight search for Time Machine and got "An unexpected error occurred (Error Code -43). I then, in my half asleep state, thought that I'd just uninstall TM. I have this app called AppDelete, which did the trick. Now I realise that TM is in system prefs and appears to be working.
Firstly, has anyone else gotten this error, and secondly, is there any way to get back whatever it was I deleted earlier? Maybe by using the install disk. I looked at it earlier and didn't see any options.
I noticed that the TM "app" in the Applications folder was only a few hundred kbs so I may not have done much damage. Doesn't anyone know what that part is? Is it just a frontend or what?
I am trying to transfer some videos from one external HD to another external HD through my MacBook Pro. I copy the whole folder but only half get transferred, the other comes up with an Error Code 0.
