I have a strange problem with my SyncServer, every time I use any application that has anything to do with syncing information such as iSync or even iTunes with my iPhone or even mobileme sync, the syncserver crashes and nothing gets synced.
I haven't been able to sync anything for a while because of that problem and I do not know what to do.
Does any one know how to deal with it?
It seems that everytime I visit a tech site like anandtech and stumble on CPU articles or discussions, they talk about overclocking. On the latest i3 CPU, the author overclocked the 2.93GHz to a stable 4GHz wihtout even needing additional cooling. Why is overclocking such a big deal on the PC side, but not on the Mac side even though we're using the same family of chips?

I have been looking at the new mac minis (self upgrading the HDD and RAM), but for not too much more it looks like I could get a 12-18 month old mac pro.
Is it worth getting the older machine with better specs or will the new mini actually be more capable?
I will use it for photography (lightroom, PSE6, iphoto) word processing (MS Office 08) and obviously email/safari.
I have done quite a bit of searching around but can't seem to find much info on this topic, plenty about G5 powermacs vs mini but nothing on the dual xeon dual core 2.0ghz pros.
Any info/advice much appreciated

I have an iPhoto library with 15.000 photo's and videos and I cannot stand the way iPhoto organizes all of them.
To get my photo's organized in a decent fashion I came up with the following ideas:
1. Switch to Aperture. (But Aperture does not accept videos, so that won't work for me.)
2. Use albums in iPhoto. (But the events are still under events, albums just create a shortcut.)
3. Switch to Picasa, but it seems like it is hard to get all the metadata (keywords, geotags, etc) correctly exported out of iPhoto.
None of these seem to work for me. How do you guys deal with your large photo libraries?
What was the deal-breaker for you to pass on the 13"?
View 24 Replies View RelatedI've just done a video on my Canon stills camera and it imported into iPhoto. But the video doesn't then appear to sync with my iPad. So I found the file in Finder and dragged it into iTunes. Problem there is that it isn't really a Movie or a TV show - I don't want a short clip of my cat in amongst feature films.
So how do you arrange/sync personal videos?
I'm eyeing the mini right now because os x >>> windows for music (inherent midi drivers instead of 3rd party, stability, etc etc).amittedly I currently run a hackintosh on a previously windows pc. It is stable with the exception of gfx crashes every few hours and its inability to use the gfx card to its full extent. This gets to me though and is kind of a bitch. So I'm thinking about getting a mini when I have the money for one. I would get the standard with the 4gb ram option. How well does it deal with heat under stress? and is the HDD 7200 rpm for the non server edition?(edit: roarrrr just read that its 5400, so lame)

View 4 Replies View RelatedI went through some fairly difficult procedures to rid my computer of Flashback and quickly got in over my head. So I called tech support, and they told me, if I have OS X 10.7 and do software updates regularly, that I have nothing to worry about. They said Safari is not compromised, and there's no reason not to enable Java. They said software updates is more important than any third party anti-virus or anti-malware software that I could run. I would like to know what some of you in the forum think about these issues.

Occasionally I've gotten a weird situation where the Dock would crash over and over. I can't figure out how/when it happens. So far it seems like a simple login/logout fixes it for a while.

I just bought a new iMac on Aug. 7. When I enter System Preferences and they Display/Screensaver the program opens and then immediately crashes. The Display/Screensaver opened the first time I tried. I selected a picture for my background. Ever since then all it will do is crash when I try to open.

View 19 Replies View RelatedI was recently using my computer the other day which is a mac mini. I left it on and came back to use it and when I just clicked the mouse the screen froze. I tried using Ctrl-Alt-Esc but nothing worked so I just turned off the computer. I rebooted it again and I hear a clicking noise and the computer wont load, just a blank white screen. Repeated the same thing multiple times and still the same. Unfortunatley for me I didn't make a backup of the hard drive. I brought the computer into the apple store to get it fixed.
I wanted to know if there is any way to salvage(data recovery) any of the files from the hardrive or someway to recover them. I looked at how much it costs to do a data recovery and the price seems way to expensive.

I was watching a movie, went to research something the movie inspired me about and I noticed that CPU1 was showing 75% load and CPU2 was showing 0% load and by the CPU graphs had been for about a minute. About 10 seconds later the computer locked up and I was forced to hold the power button to shut it down. I restarted and It's been running normal for the last half hour. Is this something I should look into or maybe just a software crash?
View 1 Replies View RelatediTunes has been crashing for months when playing CDs (but it's fine for DVDs and the audio files on iTunes). ppc G5 iMac, 10.5.8. Twice on inserting a CD, again when the CD concludes, and often during playing, or when I try to adjust volume. It did this with a LaCie external drive and now that I've installed a new replacement Toshiba internal superdrive it still does exactly the same thing. After reading about the many bugs with v9.0.1 I obtained v8.0.2, deleted everything to do with iTunes and reinstalled the older version. However, the crashes continue unabated. Have run Disk Warrior, Tech Tools Pro5, reset the hardware pulling the AC plug etc., run Permissions over and over, thrown out prefs files, etc.
View 5 Replies View RelatedTrying to convert a .mov file to .wmv using either flip4mac or perian or any other plugin. In any configuration QT crashes no matter what conversion type I'm using. A little rectangular white window appears with only the orange dot visible and within seconds I get the beach ball running and have to Force Quit QT. Looked all over the internet to no avail - except lots of complaints regarding conversion in QT with no real solutions being offered. Emptied cash and trashed prefs file all to no avail. Is this a QT bug in 7.5.5 although I haven't heard anything on the Apple site?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm currently having to give myself a 24hr crash course in FCE. One of the things I'm up against at the moment is the process of creating a sub-clip. I was half expecting to:
Import video into the bin.
Double click the footage to transfer it into the play head
Set in and out points with the I/O markers under the play head
Click on the actual video and drag it back to the bin to create a sub-clip
When I drag the video back into the bin all I appear to get is another copy of the original master clip. No recognition of the in and out points.

leep started up logic and then it happened see attachment. I was completely locked out, no mouse or keyboard, completely frozen. Anyone have any idea what this is about? This is the second time it's happened but it's been a while since the last.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi am seriously having problem with my browsers.every time i go to like for say the main page of youtube, or someones myspace page firefox and safari stop responding (try going to it on either). then i try opera and i can't even view it, but it doesn't crash, because i can't figure out how to get the latest flash player. im thinking flash might be doing something to both browsers. i mean its getting ridiculous im talking about close to 25 stop responding from both browsers today alone. its been like this for a couple days.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've looked every where for info and can't seem to find any one with the same problem. Every time I reboot, I get the unexpected restart dialog and the option to send the report to apple. When I look at the report it says its a kernel panic, but really the machine is very stable during normal operation, and the restart process works fine with the only abnormality being that the error dialog pops up every time without fail. After I either send the report or ignore it the computer runs normally. I did the standard permission repair and it didn't help. Also ran a ram testing app a while ago, Remember or something like that, after I installed some 3rd party ram from OWC and it said my ram was fine, so I don't think its the ram, but if some one know of a better test I'll try it. If any one has any idea what the problem might be, or even how to just simply disable the warning dialog would be grateful. Also, just looked in my panic reporter logs and it has not recorded any of my resets as panics.
