OS X :: Switching Alt Key And Option Key Functions In Leopard?

Apr 24, 2009

I just bought a new Mac mini, and have attached to it a Logitech keyboard that was (a) designed for Macs, and (b) worked just fine with my old G4s. It has an "Alt" key (with Mac's "squiggly square" symbol on it) and an "Option" key (with the "Windows" icon on it). Previously, my cut-and-past function (for example) used the "Alt" key (e.g., Alt + C for copying; Alt + V for pasting). Now, with my new mini, the functions of these keys seems to be exactly reversed. Same with the "Select All" routine: Used to be Alt + A, but now it's Opt. +A. I supposed I could relearn the functions; but I'm wondering if there's any way that I could switch the functions of these two keys and restore my keyboard's operation as it was with my G4s?

I'm interested in getting larger memory for my Tiger 10.4.11 iMac but I don't want to buy a new iMac or iBook. Also, I noticed that the Sims 3 is only compatible with Leopard. Would it be possible to link up a Mac mini to my iMac and install/run the Sims 3 and iLife '09 without clogging up my iMac too much?

ICloud :: Switching With Snow Leopard?

May 29, 2012

I believe I've researched enough posts here on Apple Discussions to tell me that what I want to do is possible, but I want to confirm it before I take some irrevocable action. So, first I'll describe what I want to do, then my understanding of how to do it, and then ask my questions.  I want to keep my mac.com email functionality for my primary account, my aliases, and my email-only accounts—all of which use mac.com addresses. For now, I don't care about contacts, calendars, bookmarks, or any other syncing except mail server syncing with my SeaMonkey mail client on multiple Snow Leopard Macs.I can't install Lion (yet) on all of my Snow Leopard computers. I have some software compatibility issues that have yet to be resolved, and one machine (Macbook Pro Core Duo) isn't compatible with Lion at all.I have several IMAP and POP mail accounts that forward to my primary mac.com address, and I would like that to continue. It's my understanding that I can log into my MobileMe account, select the "Not all devices meet requirements" option, agree to the iCloud Terms of Service, and then click the Move to iCloud button to use Apple's mail services with iCloud after MobileMe ends. Here are my questions:Will the move to iCloud work as described?Do I need to claim I have Lion installed on all devices? (I don't.)Will all of my existing mac.com email-only accounts and aliases continue to work after I move to iCloud? (I seem to recall reading somewhere that the paid-for email-only accounts will work, but the aliases wont...but I'm not certain that's correct.)Will I have full access to all iCloud features on any Mac on which Lion is installed?I currently have some web content hosted on my iDisk, and I understand that the iDisk will disappear on July 1. Is there some equivalent functionality in iCloud, wherein iCloud will host browser-based web content? That doesn't appear to be the case, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.

MacBook Pro :: After Installing New Snow Leopard OS Did Not Have Bluetooth Option Under My System Preferences

Aug 29, 2009

I recently discovered after installing the new Snow Leopard OS that I did not have a bluetooth option under my system preferences. I own a mid 2008 Macbook Pro (pre-unibody, more info below) and I know that I've used it before. I recently took my computer in to be repaired by Apple because the keyboard and trackpad were inconsistently responsive, and to fix it they simply replaced the entire top panel (with the keyboard and trackpad). I have also checked under the system profiler and it says that there is no information available for my bluetooth...what exactly does this mean? Did they forget to reinstall it? or what?

OS X :: F7 Expose Key No Longer Functions?

Jan 29, 2009

So this evening I finally upgraded my MacBook (1.83GHz, first generation) to Leopard. (I am not a luddite, but rather just really behind the times.) I had previously been using OS X 10.4.11, and upgraded via a retail OS X 10.5.4 installation disk (legally acquired).

Everything seemed to go swimmingly.

But then I noticed that my F7 key, which previously controlled the Expose "All windows" function (indeed, it is labeled as such), has stopped functioning properly. It no longer controls the Expose "All windows" function. That function is now handled by the F9 key.

I have consulted Google, and have tried a number of potential fixes. I've tried to reassign the key function(s) via both the Keyboard & Mouse pane and the Expose & Spaces pane in the System Preferences. No dice.

OS X :: My Functions Keys Are All Messed Up?

Apr 26, 2009

I was very 'cleverly' trying out all the function keys as I had read that one of them was supposed to be a desktop shortcut i.e when its pressed you see the desktop immediately!

Somehow all the keys have now all messed up - i.e the volume keys no longer work and instead they produce the dashboard key etc - all very weird for me!

I've read a similar post by a user who had the same issue last year and have tried to use the reply that was given to him - but its not worked i.e

System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard > Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys.... (that's checked!)

I don't know what else to try - why isn't the RESTORE TO FACTORY DEFAULT working!

I know i managed to get the right click mouse button option working for my macbook yesterday (and the F keys seemed to have stopped working since then).

OS X :: No Control Over Basic Functions?

Im dealing with a power mac g5 with 10.4.11 installed that is behaving as if the space bar is held down indefinitely. Even when keyboard is unplugged, any text field just takes off running. Also, none of the drop down menus will stay down, they immediately disappear. When single clicking on an icon, it will instantly go to the .ds store icon and leave the selected icon unselected. Is this a bug that can be fixed?

OS X :: Using Copy/Paste Functions

Sep 1, 2009

My question is about the copy and paste functionality of the Mac while using Safari. For some work I do, I need to copy and paste website content to word documents (for example, in PC, I would select all, copy, and paste into Word). I can do the same thing with Safari and Pages, yet when I am on a site with drop-down menus and have selected the item from the menu and try 'select all, copy and paste' with Safari & Pages, it copies ALL drop down menu options. I only want it to copy the one I've selected. Also, this site allows me to enter free-form text in text boxes, but the select all/copy/paste doesnt pick up the text I've entered either.
