I just got an imac and I saw that the preview function in the folders have changed a bit from Tiger. I was wondering how you can fast forward mp3's and movies in the small preview function?
View 3 RepliesI have a pdf file, I want to copy certain pages from to a new file and rename the pages afterwards.
This is the awkward behavier, preview.app gives me, trying to do so:
It does not let me create a new pdf out of the program (command + N or file/new file) - why?
Instead, I have to drag one of the pages I want on the desktop, to create a new pdf file there.
Once I created a new pdf and dragged the wanted pages into my new file, I cannot rename the pages, which have now meaningless names including "(dragged)" in the middle. I have found no logical way, to rename these pages - why?
Do not ever plan, to save time in just selecting more than one page, to drag and copy over to your new pdf - you will end up with an alias in your sidebar of the new pdf file, which of no reason making sense to me is undeletable - which means - start over again!
Recently I noticed icons of mp3 files are no longer as used to be in finder. Previously I had a dark music note icon and when i hover my mouse there was a play button. Now I only see itunes icon in mp3 files. "Show Icon Preview" option is enabled, and i can preview image and pdf files in finder. But something happened to the mp3 files. get back the good old icon preview for mp3 files.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI wanted to change my wallpaper for the login screen. I already changed the wallpaper in System/Library/CoreServices/DefaultDesktop.jpg. But when I check back at my login screen, it is still the purple aurora background.
I tried repairing it using onyx through file permissions and also snow leopard disk utility repair disk. But my wallpaper still doesn't change.
I tried using Loginox last time when I just got my snow leopard, when I tried changing the wallpaper, it crashed on me and this problem arised.
When I upgraded to Snow Leopard, somehow my permissions have become affected and now when I log in as administrator, I am blocked from accessing folders that the administrator should be able to access. I think that my Administrator account details got deleted or changed to 'unknown' during the upgrade when I had to wipe my whole computer to load the new software. I now get the message: 'The folder “CrashReporter” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents.' I can then go into 'Get Info' to change the permissions by adding my admin account (which is not there for some reason) and specifying 'read and write' and then it works fine. However, I have to do this individually for each and every folder and subfolder to make the files work properly. Is there a way of having the computer change all the access permissions to accept my admin name and password again? (So I don't have to change the permissions one at a time on each folder?)

It's about Snow Leopard, but concerns only MacBook (Pro) 13" apparently. Here is my question: after a clean install of Snow Leopard on my MacBook Pro 13" (9CC2 panel), it seems that Snow Leopard definitely change the brightness range on the MacBook Pro 13" ! The range was much "wider" with Leopard, and allow me to set brightness to a dimmer level. Now, the brightness is on the bright side, and can't be set really dim (not as far as before...). And that's not great for my battery life! Any other experience with MacBook Pro 13" brightness settings?

When I import photos from my Canon T3i and my iPhone4, the creation date of the photo is the date imported, not the date I took the photo. While in Finder, if I look at the photo information, the creation date is the date the photo was imported (for both the Canon and iPhone photos). I'm trying to understand why this is happening. When I import the photos into iPhoto, the date I took the photo is there. While that seems like the solution, it isn't since I don't import all photos into iPhoto. If I look at the photos on the memory card, the date is correct. The only time the creation date is not correct is when I import on to my iMac or MacBook. I'm using Snow Leopard and have no plans to upgrade to Lion.

I was upgrading from Tiger to Snow Leopard (I asked a worker in the Apple store and he assured me it was okay to do so) and about 15 minutes into the installation I got a message saying "Unable to install. Please retry". Then when I retried it says "The contents of this disk can't be changed. Mac OS X couldn't be installed on this disk."

Snow Leopard's Preview can no longer do a search for dollar amounts accurately. This worked just fine in Leopard, but no longer works in Snow Leopard. Go ahead and download a PDF of your most recent bank statement, or any PDF that has a bunch of dollar amounts in it. Then, do a find for one of the dollar amounts. For example, do a find for: 50.00
Preview will no longer find a match for 50.00... instead, it will find any instance of "50" or "00" in your entire PDF file. It uses the decimal point as some sort of a delimiter, and it makes Preview believe that you are doing 2 completely separate searches.
I connect with my MacBook Pro via ethernet to the internet. So far, I've never had a problem until a couple of days, I keep on loosing the internet connect. When clicking through diagnostics, ISP, Internet and Server show first organge then turn red. If clicking through the diagnostics, sometimes I am lucky and it shows a message saying "Network configurations have chnaged", when I click ok, I'm online again. But very often nothing helps and I have to re-start the router again.

After opening a MSfile the Leopard top menu when using Microsoft Word 2008 has been changed to Chinese. This issue only happen with this product and not with the rest of the Microsoft tools that I have installed in my MacBook (example: Powerpoint). I'm including a print screen (as you can see only the iOS menu is changed to Chinese and not the software menu). I extremely need to change it back to English!

Just upgraded from Tiger 10.4.11 to Leopard 10.5.8.... QL works really nice, but now my JPG files wont show a preview, even when performing a regular Get-Info. I'm also using SneekPreview Pro to enhance QL, but the other one, SneakPeekPhoto I had to uninstall, 'cause it was causing my Finder to quit unexpectedly.

I opened a PDF to crop some parts of the file and there are two big issues:
1. I cannot crop multiple pages anymore. There just isn't that option in Inspector or anywhere else. I can only crop one page at a time.
2. Not only can I not crop more than one page at a time, but cropping doesn't actually delete the date. I can go to "View | PDF Display | Crop Box" and see what I just cropped!
Is there a way to downgrade the Preview application in Snow Leopards. Just because i don't like the Insta Alfa in the new Preview
View 3 Replies View RelatedSince I upgraded to Snow Leopard, I've been noticing that Preview does not display images. A box will open and the background will be there, but no picture. I can scan images, and the automatic preview image that pops up is blank. I can download images from the internet, and they will appear as icons on my desktop, but when I double click them I get an appropriately sized blank Preview box. I can save the image to a thumb drive and put it on my girlfriend's computer (we run identical iMacs, for reference), and it will appear on her computer, but she is using the Adobe suite.

I have a lot of multipage pdf's that I need to reduce in file size. They are scanned pdf's so no actual editable content.
If i select a page and 'save as' I can save to jpeg where I can reset the dpi of the page (currently 300dpi). This is Fine, but I need to do it to all the pages of the pdf. If I select all pages 'save as' will only save out one page and not all.
If I print and choose 'pdf to jpeg', It will save out all pages but I don't get the ability to reduce to dpi and the output jpgs are still huge. Is there a way to save to pages out in one go to jpeg where I can adjust the dpi setting?
I have tried using the reduce file size option, but the resulting pdf has lost too much quality and is unreadable. Once I have the reduced jpegs it's easy enough to reimport into preview and save as a pdf.

I just installed Snow Leopard and the Modifier Key option no longer works. i.e. I can't switch the CTRL and COMMAND keys. The option dialog still pops up, but the keys don't actually switch. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a work around or a preference file I can change manually?

View 2 Replies View RelatedHaving an issue where Preview is crashing at the end of a Save As (hangs briefly when the progress bar is full, then crashes) -- happens pretty consistently. Running 10.6.1 (on top of a fresh 10.6 install), but happened in 10.6 as well, though perhaps not as often. Have plenty of memory.

I have a vague feeling that the issue might not be in Preview, per se, but in the OS.
I have a PDF that I scanned in myself and the first time I printed it it printed just the way it was supposed to. The next time I opened up the file in preview it looked normal on my screen but when I went to print it the output in the printer had the colors inverted. I have tried printing from preview and adobe acrobat and it printed the same the blacks came out white and the whites came out black. So I tried printing it from a windows computer and the file printed as it should, the colors were normal not inverted.

i am constantly having a problem when i try and print a smallish image with Preview /automatically/ checking the Scale to Fit Paper Size and when i /uncheck/ this by clicking in the "Scale" radio button it /automatically/ enters the percent scale factor that would be required if I wanted to scale to fit to paper (e.g. 184%). Since I /don't/ want this scale (I already unchecked this option) I MANUALLY enter "100" in this box and - well - it prints out scale to fit to paper size /anyway/. i am using the Print Selected Image but the Print option behaves in the same way. Also, Auto Rotate (which defaults to AutoRotate with no option - "bad Preview, bad") has no effect on this. i have taken to pulling down to four or nine images to a page in order to get my images printed smaller, even though they never print out at 100%.
