OS X :: Volume Repair Options At Start Up With A System
Dec 11, 2010I have a MacBook that is running leopard. After running a volume repair that failed I tried to restart my laptop, but when it gets to the blue loading screen, it takes forever and then shuts off. I can still run the Mac os x installer. When I go to disk utility, the Macintosh hd tab is visible, whereas it wasn't available before. Okay scratch that it isn't available anymore. Though, I just clicked on startup disk and it is visible there.

Jun 24, 2009I bought a used macbook yesterday morning and everything seemed to be working properly at first, but by the end of the day it started having a problem when booting up. 2 gigs of RAM (updated by previous owner)160 gig Hard Drive (updated by previous owner)Everything else is the same as this listing. The problem: when booting up, the screen turns on, but just remains white, without showing the apple logo and spinning circle. I left it like that for a good 10 minutes, and it never continued to boot, it just stayed in that state. I shut it off, then started it in safe mode, which worked fine. From there I restarted it, and it worked normally. The same thing happened again later (white screen, turn off, boot in safe mode, boot normally).

It can be done by clicking the master tab, then going to the Input 1-2 column setting and then clicking setting - mastering, etc.When I first did this a few weeks ago, there were many options such as hip hop mastering, electronic mastering, etc.Now, when I do so, I have different - much less enticing options and have no idea where the good ones went.
MacBook Won't Start / Half Of Start Up Chime / Flash A White Screen Then Die
Apr 14, 2012My computer won't turn on. Earlier today while playin music it just paused itself. I minute later it resumed. Then tonight it just shut off instead of sleeping and now it won't start. All I can get if I'm lucky is the start up chime and a super quick flash of a white screen.

Mar 8, 2009First off, let me explain the position I am in. I have the newest 13in MacBook with a 2.4Ghz hard drive. I installed Windows Vista on it recently after I got it. Many times while using Vista, all audio would stop and be replaced with crackling sounds. This would continue until I restarted. I tried going to Dell, downloading drivers for the Broadcom 802.11n WiFi Adapters and installing those, but that caused a worse problem. Windows can no longer find any networks, and when I select the Broadcom WiFi Adapters in Device Manager, it says "This device cannot start." and says it's Code 10 or something.

May 6, 2012My computer is a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X Version 10.7.3, 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 with 4GB memory. Start-up has become somewhat erratic. Consistently, if I close the lid on the computer it won't restart when I reopen it. I'll have to hold the power button down for about 15 seconds, let up and then press it again. Sometimes restarting after a shutdown the computer will go through the long start-up I associate with a crash shutdown. Sometimes login start-up items don't start up. Sometimes I have to click somewhere on the screen to make the menu bar at the top of the screen visible. Overall, unexpected things keep happening. Although I don't think it probably relates, Chrome is my primary browser.

Sep 19, 2010I have the app called "SimpleTask" set to start-up when i turn my Mac on. The icon is just in the top taskbar. The problem is that when i turn my Mac on the window of the app comes up on my desktop and then i have to manually minimize it every time. Is there a way to have it start-up minimized in the taskbar from the start so i dont have to do it manually? There is no option for this in the preferences. There has to be a way to do it thou.

Apr 6, 2009My lovely pro has decided that occasionally it doesn't like the idea of starting from sleep and sometimes won't boot up.
The fan runs at full blast (I think it's the CPU fan), a black screen and the power button on the front glows. I don't have any external drives attached, no stat programs running in the background except little snitch. Generally I close all programs before I leave my desk. After I hard reboot, I get a "do you want to send this to apple?" dialogue, with the errors pointing to the nvidia 8800gt. I don't have the full detail of the error box, I'll post it next time it happens.
I've zapped the pram, run the apple diagnostic and unplugged everything to reset the SMC or whatever it is.
About 1/2 of my wakes from sleep, and about 1 in 4 times when starting exhibit this.
MacBook Pro :: Macbook Wont Start - Keep Getting Start Up Noise?
Dec 14, 2010I am not 100% sure what the offical name of the start up noise is when you turn on your Macbook, however that is all I am geeting when I turn it on. I push the power button, it makes that start up noise of the disc drive... sits... and makes the noise again... sits... makes the noise again and so on and so on. The screen doesnt change at all, just blackness. I was able to start it up once with the start up disc and I thought that was the fix, so before going to sleep I powered down. Woke up the next morning same old bs AND it will not start up off the disc again. Another time after letting it sit and try to boot up for awhile (30mins) it finally did! However after 20-30 mins the screen kind of flickered and then everything froze. Can't get it to turn on at all now. Just that noise over and over and over and over again.

Feb 24, 2008I just bought a new Mac Pro and do lots of Photoshop and want to swap out the stock 320 gig drive. I'm leaning towards 2 ultra fast Seagate 1 TB drives in a raid 0 configuration. The Raptor noise level scares me a bit.
Anything negative to say about the Seagate drives? Any other configs?

Jun 24, 2009I recently purchased a 2.8 octo Mac Pro that came with a stock 200 Gig HD. I purchased a WD 640 Caviar Blue HD for a boot drive and 3x 1 Tb Samsung Spinpoints for data and backup. When I got the Mac I simply took out the stock drive, put in the WD and did a clean install off the install DVD?s. The machine performs very well when it?s running my apps, like Pro Tools, but it?s sometimes a bit fragile when performing mundane tasks like burning dvd?s while surfing safari f.eks. It tends to freeze up quite a bit. Then I noticed also that the Samsung drives I put in it are a bit unresponsive. i.e. when i move files between folders on the extra Samsungs there is a few seconds of "lag" while before I can open the folders again.

Paying for highest speed available and at times it's blazing fast and other times, it's quicker to go to the library to look up the info!Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if there were any possible solutions to get it more consistent.

Sep 13, 2010Of all the things I've learned to do on a Mac over the years, and with all the help I've provided here at MR, I still don't know how to do the following:
On a rolled out dialog box like the one shown below, how does one go about selecting something other than the highlighted button (in this case Save...) using the keyboard?
I think Escape usually works to select Cancel, but how would I select Don't Save using the keyboard? Why can't I simply Tab over to it and hit the space bar or Enter?
While we're at it, I'm familiar with taking a screenshot of an entire window (CMD+SHIFT+4 followed by Space) but that doesn't seem to work to take a screenshot of a window + the dialog box, other than the sloppy way I just did?

PowerPC :: Desktop G4 Or G5 Options?
May 13, 2008I have a PowerMac G4, dual 1.25, 2 gigs of RAM and I'm thinking about upgrading. I don't have a big budget so the new Mac Pro is out of the question. I've been trying to figure out what's going to be more beneficial for me: 1) I upgrade the processor on my G4 to the maximum of dual 1.8 or 2) get an iMac, maybe the lowest version of 2.4Ghz Intel core duo.I'm an audio engineer and my projects require a lot of audio recording, mixing, and mastering. Once in a blue moon I have to work audio synced up to video. That was the reason I HAD to get a PowerMac 4 years ago and not the old version of the iMac. All my software work perfectly with OS 10.3.9 so it's not a requirement for me to get a better operating system. In fact, one application is still not available for OS 10.5.

Mar 15, 2009I'm a new Mac owner (i know i can hear you grown lol) and sorry to ask such a boring question but I can't seem to get my Expose to work, i can get spaces to work just fine although not when using the nominated hot keys - it only works when i click on the icon in the dock. I can't see anything in this forum that really details every step of expose and I don't want to to play with that app too much in case i create an abomination that I don't know how to fix.
