OS X :: Snow Leopard - Shift Key Only Capitalizes First Letter

Oct 28, 2009

I'm having the same problem in ALL my typing: when I hold down the shift key for multiple letters, only the first is capitalized; the rest come out lower case. This is not a replacement behavior: I don't see the Uppercase letter get replaced by the lowercase one; only the first is uppercase. Is there some new text replacement routine? Can this be customized? I can't stand having to release the shift key between letters or to have to shift-lock, shift unlock.

OS X :: Leopard Upgrade To Snow Leopard ... The Same As The Full Version Of Snow Leopard?

Jun 13, 2009

... long time reader, first time poster!! So I'm doing it. I'm switching from PC to Mac. I've been waiting for a while now and the new MacBook Pro's have convinced me. I'm buying the 13 inch this week.

However I'm slightly worried about the upgrade to Snow Leopard in September.

My question is if I buy a new MacBook Pro this week and upgrade from the current version of Leopard to Snow Leopard will it be the EXACT same as the version of Snow Leopard that ships with new MacBooks after September?

Is the upgrade just the same as the full software version available post September? Does the upgrade it just detect if you have the previous software and installs as if it were the full? Or does it just "patch" things depending on what's different from previous versions?

I can wait till after Snow Leopard is released in September 09 if it is different to Leopard upgraded to Snow Leopard.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Photoshop CS And Acrobat 6.0 Stopped Working In Snow Leopard?

Mar 25, 2012

"Photoshop CS" and "Acrobat 6.0 Standard" suddenly stopped working in my iMac, apparently after I upgraded it to MacOS 10.6.8 (the latest version of Snow Leopard).  Both programs had worked normally until that OS upgrade.  I deleted Photoshop CS and tried to re-install it from the original CD, but the installation never proceeds because I get an error message entitled:  "Install Adobe Photoshop CS quit unexpectedly".  This is the full error message:

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Software Update After Snow Leopard Clean Install

Jul 3, 2012

Today I performed a clean install of Snow Leopard on my late 2009 Mac Mini. After completing the installation, I began running software update to bring everything up-to-date.While software update did find and install a number of updates (10.6.8v1.1 Combo update, Security Update 2012-002, Apple Software Installer Update, iLife Support 9.0.4, Remote Desktop Client Update 3.5.3, Airport Utility, Java, Safari) it did not find an update for iTunes (which starts at version 9.x, I believe, in a SL clean install).I assumed that this was some sort of random glitch and manually downloaded and installed iTunes 10.6.3.After that, I re-installed iLife '11 (from a retail DVD, not the App Store). When I ran Software Update again, it found updates for Garage Band, iDVD, and iWeb, but it did not show the updates for iPhoto and iMovie.I found this to be unnerving, as I performed a clean install when I first obtained this Mini a few months ago and didn't experience any of these problems - all of my Apple software updated automatically through Software Update without a hitch.

I began researching this problem online and found that other people have been experiencing this same problem (or some variation of it), and it seems like it began appearing around the time Apple updated some of its security certificates in March. In particular, I've found several references to the missing iPhoto update. This one is especially noticeable because an iPhoto library created in iPhoto 9.2.3 will not open in iPhoto 9.0, and this generates an error upon opening the program (i.e., a user backs up their iPhoto library created in 9.2.3, performs a SL clean install, reinstalls iLife, goes through the Software Update process until it shows that no more updates are available, and are shocked to find that they are unable to open their backed up iPhoto library because they have an out of date version of iPhoto). The most common (and admittedly logical) solution proposed in the threads I've read is to download any necessary updates directly from the Apple website. However, I am curious as to why this previously functional feature now appears to be broken.Has anyone else been struggling with this?  Does it indeed have something to do with the new security certificates? Is Apple aware of the problem?

OS X :: Split Files With Letter Extensions

Jan 14, 2011

I have a set of split files with letter extensions. They are named <filename>.iso.__a, <filename>.iso.__b, and so on. Additionally they continue on to <filename>.iso._aa to <filename>.iso._as. This further confuses me because a Mac will list the <filename>.iso.__a first but a PC will put the <filename>.iso._aa first so I am unsure which is the initial file. I haven't found software that will join them properly. Split and Concat stalls out at 4kb. MacHacha makes a full sized file but it won't mount. Stuffitexpander won't even try, and Ajoiner shades out all the files as they don't end in numbers. I also tried renaming all the files with numbers but this too failed.

Software :: Classic Printing Won't Use Letter

Oct 4, 2008

In classic, Page Set-up (Laserwriter 8) no longer shows "Letter" or "Legal" sizes. Instead, it shows "na-letter" and "na-legal" and when I select either and print, my printer informs me that paper size "A4" is selected, and, of course, the margins of the printed document are all messed up. Also, my printer stops at each page and asks me to check the paper size. I'm guessing "na" is for "not applicable." Everything worked fine until I installed the 4.4.11 Combo update back in April. I had 10.4.x before that. The Laserwriter 8 Page Set-up dialog box is different than it was prior to the update (although it is a version that's familiar to me from years ago). I've tried deleting the new driver and installing an older Laserwriter driver from another Mac on which I had not run the combo update. Although doing this makes printing fail completely, in the Print Dialog box I do actually see the version of it I remember, and I CAN select "Letter" and "Legal" (and there's no "na-letter" or "na-legal").

If I restart my Mac, it tells me that it needs to update the driver and does so, and then I'm back to "na-letter" and "na-legal" and a different Print Dialog box. I'm printing on an Epson Aculaser CX11NF. Again, it used to work just fine and nothing I know of changed besides the Combo update. Non-Classic printing usually works fine, but sometimes my printer thinks that a document is "A4" when it isn't. Since I end up changing the paper size directly on the printer's front panel (to avoid it stopping with each print and asking me to check the paper size because I don;t have A4 loaded), I'm guessing that this is my fault. Sometimes when printing from iPhoto from another Mac on my network, iPhoto automatically selects A4 instead of letter even though Letter is the default paper size for that Mac. The application is MYOB Accounting Plus. I've had to change the formating of my checks and reports, and I can no longer print on the top inch-and-a-half of the page. I have re-installed the system, the Epson software, and anything else I could think of.

MacBook Pro :: Keyboard Can't Write Letter B

Dec 9, 2014

My computer began to get some strange errors - It is my MacBook Pro Retina 15" Mid-2012.My keyboard can't write the letters "B" and the danish letter "Å", it the same for both small and capital letter (B/b and Å/å).

But even though my keyboard won't write the two letters, it will still register the key is beefing push.when I sits and write this, it will change the text to bold - like turning the bold format on/off each time I push the B key. The same happens when I just push the left command key, so I can turn the bold text format on/off with my left command key. The right command key can't turn the bold format on/off, either only or with the "right cmd+b" - which for this forum should be the original short cut.

Both of my command keys denies to accept some shortcut like "cmd+t" in Safari to make a new tab. But the "cmd+n" works fine. I have no problem with writing the letter "t" or the "n" in the url address line. What I have tried so far without any result:- Resetting of the system management controller (SMC)

- Updated to Yosemite so I now have OS X 10.10.1

- Of course tried to restart.

- Seen my language hasn't been changed from Danish.

I've tried restarting several times, but it's getting worse to the point that I can't even type my password in b/c strings of the letter 'V' keep erroring out each field. The letter 'V' isn't stuck in the keyboard, my keyboard doesn't need to be cleaned, I've run a disk repair and no errors are coming up. I had to type this from a different computer otherwise the entire message would have had "v's" typed throughout!

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: 'Snow Leopard Cannot Install To Computer'

Now I want to upgrade to Snow Leopard and since my Mac Mini came with it, I attempted to use the OSX install disc from the Mini in the iMac. I don't see a reason why this shouldn't work. There's no DRM or anything as far as I know. I'm just trying to bridge the gap so I can download Lion. I've looked into some of the advice others have given on this subject but my computer doesn't have those issues. I've tried booting from disc but I get the same message.
