I've got two applications and I'd like to share a folder between them. The trouble is when I create an 'alias' folder and place it within the second application, it doesn't work and the application doesn't treat it as the standard folder (as Windows/Linux would).

But i wanted to also give them read only access to another folder on another drive. So ive set the permissions for the drive, folder and enclosing folder, but it still doesnt appear when they mount my share.
View 2 Replies View RelatedNew folders created on a network are unable to be accessed by other users on the same network in Leopard OSX 10.5.6. The original user is the only one able to access the folder. You should be able to go to 'Get Info' on the folder and change sharing and permissions at the original user's mac, so that all users on the network are able to read and write to that folder. Leopard OSX doesn't not allow the change to be made. The selections are not ghosted out, but the appear available to be selected. No matter which you choose 'read & write', 'read only' the 'no access' option remains. We can go to a different mac on the network that has Tiger OSX and change the sharing and permissions of the folder in question. Why can't I easily do the same on the originating mac?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed Vmware Fusion 2 awhile back and liked how I could share the pictures and music folders between my Mac (which they were stored on) and the Vmware Fusion 2 Windows install. However, i was disappointed on how sluggish it was. So I (after some initial trouble) partitioned my hard drive and installed Windows 7 on the Boot Camp partition. However, now i cannot share folders between my mac and windows. Is there a way to do this?

It would also be nice if I could just relate to the local folder, and the software would automatically synce new files in both directions.
My Applications and Documents folder on my dock dont seem to have the folders with there symbols on it, they seem to other material. How can I get them to show the folders. Im running on Snow Leopard!

The MBP connects to iMac and shows files easy as...however I have enabled sharing on iMac when I choose Network it recognises the MBP but always says connecting and after a few minutes shows connection failed.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have two users defined on my macbook (one is New, and the other one, the Old one, is what I've always had).I was re-configuring File Sharing on the Old user.I turned files sahring off in the Old User, but when I log into the New, I can still acess to some folders that I have never set to be shared; only few folders have the red restricted access on it. The New User does have file sharing disabled, and non of its folder can be accessed; so, it's working Ok for this New User.

I have always had problems with iTunes sharing. I have iTunes installed on my Windows PC, have sharing on for both the my MBP and the PC. I can always see the Mac library on my windows PC, but not always the other way around. Sometimes the PC library will show up on my laptop, sometimes it wont. Why is it so inconsistent?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running an iMac G5 Version 10.5.6 (Leopard) and I have activated every security feature I can find.
I have disabled all sharing, I have disabled guest access, I have the firewall up allowing only essential services, and I am in stealth mode.
In spite of this, he is obviously able to see every website I visit, and I am afraid he can view my email or the court documents etc. on my machine.
When I click on my harddrive icon, I can see his machine, listed as PC server, under 'sharing', even though I have disabled all sharing!!
There does not seem to be an option to disconnect him, or block him.
I am trying to set up my home network to have the iMac share its' media library via iTunes, and access that media on other devices in the home. I would like to use iTunes Music Sharing, which is a very simple setup on the iMac and doesn't require any Apple ID to be entered on the devices accessing the shared library. However, I have found that the iPhone and iPad will not even see the shared media library when the iMac is set up to share its' library.
Only when I enable Home Sharing on the iMac, and configure Home Sharing on the iPhone and iPad, do I see the shared library available on those devices.
I would like to allow other family members in the household to access the shared media library without requiring them to have my Apple ID and password. iTunes Music Sharing is supposed to allow this.
Does iTunes Music Sharing not work when trying to share to an iPhone or iPad?

When I attempt to share my project to a DVD, it gives me the option of 'Next' rather than 'Share' - why? Then it says that the DVD Sharing was successful - but it hasn't! It saves a disk image to the destination. I don't know why the 'Share' option has suddenly changed!! I was burning DVDs just fine a few days ago!
Also, what is the most effective / quick way of burning DVDs using the MacBook, without purchasing other software?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Windows 7 computer and a Mac running Show Leopard on the same network. On my mac I can see the Windows machine and be able to see and play music off of that computer. The Windows machine does not show the mac at all.
I've reinstalled iTunes on Windows multiple times, turned on and off my firewall and antivirus programs and nothing seems to work.
Any ideas from the crowd? I have an Airport Extreme router too. Any settings on the router that I should be looking at?
are there any apps out there that allow the download of songs from wirelessly shared itunes libraries?

I've looked online and it says to enable the option in the video dropmenu in ichat but that is also faded out.
My man and I are finally trying to centralize our music and it involves taking it from my old Macbook (OS 10.4.something) and putting it onto his much more reliable PC with Windows XP. Anyway, iTunes is all updated on both. Home sharing is activated on both. I'm logged in on both with my itunes account info. I can see the library from each computer on the other one. Things should be great! However, when I'm on my Mac and I click on his library, I CAN see the few files in there. But when I'm on the PC and click on the library on my mac, it says it's loading and then either 1) just hangs until it quits or 2) says that there's some firewall business going on and I should check to make sure everything allowed on both computers. Well, I did that.
In fact, because I'm not the most computer savvy chick out there, I just turned the firewalls off on both computers. I'm sure there is still some more messing around to be done, but here's my big question: Which computer do you think is having the issue? If the Mac can see the PC's library, but the PC can't load the Mac's library, which computer likely has some wonky settings? Oh, and I did search through the forums (this is my first time here!) and I didn't find anything exactly like this. I have opened and closed iTunes a bunch of times, and turned home sharing on and off a few times since that has seemed to be some general advice out there. But it's still not working.
I bought a Seagate Free Agent Go Flex External drive. I transferred all my files from my previous external HD. When I went to access my folders on my external HD, the folders are all locked, with Sharing and Permission section in the Information "Everyone: Read" only! I can't change any of the information or move things! All of them are locked and "read only." I know how to change it, but only manually, individually. I have several hundreds of folders and I don't want to manually change all of them to "Read & Write." Is their a way to let me re-set the folders to "Read & Write" easily??

I have a question for the the Safari geeks out here (1.1.1 version 100.1, running on MacOSX 10.3.2): I have imported my bookmarks from a Mozilla install on a Linux box, based on a hint I found here with the debug options (worked great!!!), and I have the following questions related to adding a new bookmark (based on the fact that my bookmarks are organized in multi-level folders, e.g. OperatingSystems->Linux->Security->Firewall, etc.):
- when opening Bookmarks->Add bookmark ..., how could I possibly collapse all the levels, so that I can easily scroll, and open/drill down into the appropriate level of bookmarks, without having to scroll thrrough all (by default) expanded levels? ... especially critical as some sub-categories may match names, with different higher level bookmarks, thus having to make sure I am where I want to be (e.g. I have a Security folder under OS->Mac, as I have one under OS->Linux, and I have to remember which one I am under, if the "parent" is out of the scrolling window);
- is there any easy way to add a new "level/folder", through Bookmarks->Add bookmark, at the time of salvaging a new one, vs. having to open the Bookmarks in a new window, adding the folder, then returning to add the new bookmark?
