Applications :: Using Apple Remote Desktop / Screen Sharing
May 15, 2009I am trying to set up Apple Remote Desktop and Screen Sharing between my Mac Pro (home computer) and a new Macbook (white laptop).
I wish to be able to use Apple Remote Desktop from both computers. I have had this working between an older work laptop.
I don't seem to be able to connect to the Macbook from the Mac Pro, I cannot share the screen or connect using ARD. I enter the username and password of the account I use on the Macbook but connection takes a while and is then refused. I can however, connect from my MacBook to my Mac Pro
If I allow Screen Sharing instead of Remote Management from the System preferences, it requires that the the user of the Macbook accepts my request to view the screen. However if using the Macbook I can connect and no permission is requested. If permission is granted I can only share screen in ARD and not control.
The user account I use on the Macbook is an "Admin, Managed, Mobile" account. Would that have an affect?

Mar 27, 2009I very regularly rip my CD's to MP3's. Problem is often this results in filenames with track1.mp3, track2.mp3 etc without any MP3 info. On pc, I always used Mp3Tag to fix this. What programs are good (and free) for Mac?

Sep 14, 2009I know there is dream weaver out there but I am not that well versed in using yet. I need something that is like Iweb 09 but will work better. It appears that when you create something in Iweb 09 and let's say it's [URL] it will make the home page this: [URL]
It seems like iweb adds on the extra extentension on the end. I also notice that Iweb when you save the program to a server the site takes forever to load and I think it has something to do with the size of the file or site. not sure.
What I like about Iweb is the drag and drop feature with text box and so on. Is there a program out there where I am not paying a monthly service charge to use a program that is loaded on a server? I understand I have hosting fees by the way.
So any programs out there that are mac friendly and has a user friendly interface?

Skype has a beta version for Mac and Windows that has video conferencing features and a screensharing feature, but Skype is a complicated program for computer novices... the very people I'm presenting to over 600 miles away.
I'm looking for a free solution that works cross-platform. I must be able to share a presentation and communicate using audio. Video conferencing features are a plus.

OS X :: Apple Remote Desktop - ARD Box In Sharing Preference Of Machines
Feb 4, 2010I've just started to use ARD and have it installed on my Admin computer running 10.6.2. I'm aiming to control macs on different OS'. I seem to be able to work ok with machines running tiger but leopard and panther aren't working correctly.
I'm not sure if its because I need to create a new account on the machines to use in conjunction with ARD, I've seen this done before in apple tutorial videos. Does anyone know if this is the best way to implement the system or can I check the ARD box in the sharing preference of my machines?

Nov 28, 2010I bought a Mini yesterday and am attempting (read: failing) to set up my home network. Here is what I have: Netgear WNDR3700 home network with a WPA2 wireless network. A Windows 7 (completely updated) desktop with file sharing but not home group on. I have even deactivated my windows firewall while attempting to set this up. A Mac Mini running OSX 10.4 with Windows Networking activated
I originally hoped to plug my mac mini in and, while I was quickly able to browse the web, I was less than successful in accessing my shared files that are on my windows 7 machine. I then deactivated the homegroup and simply "shared" the folders via right-clicking and sharing to all users on the network. I am unable to see the mac mini when opening up the network which was the first sign of trouble. I have all of the file sharing options on Windows 7 and Mac Mini checked (network discovery, etc.) but do not have any luck. The farthest success I have reached was I manually entered the ip of my windows 7 pc on the mac mini and while I saw the shared folders, they were empty. Note: I do have identical user accounts set up between the two computers, with the same user name and no password.

Jan 18, 2010I am looking to replace my piece of junk HP J6450 with a new unit. I want something that has decent B&W scanning with an automatic feeder.I scan documents, receipts, etc. The HP ADF is terrible, pages come through choppy and unreadable.
I consider purchasing the Fujitsu 300M scanner and a small standalone printer.Otherwise Newegg has the Brother MFC-7840W for $209 through end of today.Opinions? I also want to unit to work well with Snow Leopard and Ethernet.

Jan 28, 2009Can someone recommend me a decent negative scanner? I want to digitise all my old photo negatives in a format good enough to keep in iPhoto and upload to Flickr. I'm not interested in ultra professional resolution, but something in the region of 5MP would be good enough.
I've read that Veho are going to be updating their scanner hardware to work with the Mac, but I've heard some stories about the quality being awful. I wish someone would actually upload some of the results so we could decide for ourselves, but it has put me off.
I don't want to spend a fortune, but I am willing to spend a decent amount of money (low hundreds of ���, NOT thousands!!) to get what I want.

Aug 21, 2009I was thinking of maybe finding a white 20" iMac Core 2 Duo but there are a couple things I would like to know. First how much do they go for. Second, how well they handle games, not a very picky gamer, but some CoD4 at the monitors native resolution and still being able to get decent frames would be nice. The reason I'm contemplating this is because if it can't run CoD4 or other recent games well my G5 works fine for everything.

Feb 20, 2007I know the G4s are 733mhz and below, I'm not sure if they're Quicksilvers or DAs, I could probably find out, but I already bugged an IT guy once, so I'm not sure I want to ask again.Now, assuming these are at a decent price (from what I've heard, they usually are), is it worth it to buy one and upgrade? I've been reading over lowendmac.com, and I see both of the 733mhz models will accept dual 1.8 cards/boards. This probably won't be my primary machine, but my Photoshop machine until I get a Mac Pro.How much are the 733mhz machines worth, they probably have 1gb or so of ram, and a decent(for the time) vide card. The school doesn't really skimp, in our photo department, we have G5s w/dual 2ghz, 4gb RAM, and 23" ACDs.

Nov 4, 2009I know that I will need to get a Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter and then run that output through a PC to TV Converter.
A converter like this one states that it only supports 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768 display modes. If the converter is outputting a 1024x768 then I guess I'm going to have to stretch the screen and thus I will loose some quality, right?

I've introduced them to iTunes and they are learning how to buy music, but naturally the internal speakers aren't very good (although they are better than I thought they would be).
