In my iMac there are 2 accounts (me and my wife). Each one has an account and musics in iTunes.
How can we share our musics in the library?
I had this working a while back... but (I can only think it's since I upgraded to iTunes 8) this has now stopped working...
1. I have moved my iTunes Music folder to /users/shared...
2. I go into iTunes preferences and change the location of the Music Library...
3. Restart iTunes...
4. Then I go into iTunes and it works - it's reading songs and movies from the shared location fine...
When I login as a different user (any admin user), repeat steps 2 and 3 and nothing - the library is empty when it's restarted
I also tried this hack from another site around 18 months ago...

The instructions are pretty much the same, although this involves creating aliases of the iTunes music library.xml file - but didn't seem to make any difference to the outcome
As there is no way to merge iTunes account purchases, Can someone advise if the following is possible:
Currently:
I have 1 PC with iTunes account A connected to my iPhone
I have 1 Mac with iTunes account B connected to my iPad
Is it possible to move all my iTunes stuff from the PC/account A (Music, apps etc) to my Mac and have all the apps/music available on both devices?
eg. account A and B stuff on my Iphone and account A and B stuff on my iPad.
My wife and I have been refrencing the same iTunes library from our individual user accounts in our shared folder on our unibody MacBook for over a year now. Why is it that when I add something to the library, either a purchase from the iTunes store or whatever, it doesn't show up in my wife's library automatically? It has to be added manually on her account.
Now, when she buys a song from iTunes, it downloads to her user account's iTunes music folder, not to the shared folder. Then if I want the song in my library, I have to manually add it. We're both using the same iTunes store user account. There HAS to be an easier way to do this. We both have the "keep iTunes library orginized" checked.
The setup: Three computers, one running Windows XP SP3, SL 10.6.4 and L 10.5.8. All three are running iTunes 9.2. The windows xp box is the "server" of the iTunes main library. This is where it is strange. I can see all three library's (depending on which computer I am on). I can see the shared library's and they all have the little house with the music note. The problem is I can't share any music from one account to the other?
If I open up one of the shared library's and try to drag and drop some music into it, the files will not drop. Doesn't matter what computer I am on. I have tried the "automatically add to library" folder and that works about 50% of the time. It will send files over but a good majority of the time it will not copy to all shared library's. I have checked the router settings and also made sure all the settings from within iTunes is correct. I have also made sure all of the accounts are logged into the same iTunes account etc. But nothing seems to be working.
We picked up our first Mac yesterday, a 13" uMBP. I upgraded the HDD and the RAM last night and reinstalled all of the software, so it is good to go. I have a question regarding multiple accounts though, and sharing librabries.
My wife and I will each have an account on the Mac, to keep our docs and email separate. However, I want a single iPhoto library, and a single iTunes library for us both to use and sync to. I see in my account, I have Music, Pictures, Movies, etc folders, and a Public folder. As it stands, my iPhoto library is saved in my Pictures folder, which I assume my wife could not access from her account by default. Am I correct in thinking that I want to move the library to the Public folder, and then point her iPhoto to the library in the Public folder, and then we would both be accessing and working from the same library? the same would hold true for iTunes, videos, etc?
Two user accounts sharing iTunes library on Macbook Pro. m4p file plays complete on one user account, partial on second user account. Same length of partial play for all m4p's in same album. m4a's play fine in both user accounts.Â

I will soon be setting up an 27" iMac i7 as a single home computer to store the "original copies" of all our important media and documents... as well as being a convenient place to edit pictures and other complex jobs. I will set up two accounts, one each for my wife an I so that we have our own environments to augment our personal laptops (MBP/MBA). This computer will have a good automatic onsite & offisite backup strategy in place to protect our data. We can also share personal data with our laptops via iDisk in Mobile Me.
We will want to keep most things separate... but we do have some data that is shared between the two of us. One particular example is our iTunes music collection.
Now for my question: Is there a way to have both accounts on this computer use the same iTunes library AND also the same database? What I would like is that if either of us is using the computer in our own account... that we see the exact same iTunes library/database. Hence, for example, if either of us buys more music, that we would both see the new music.
If this is not possible... I will just load the music into one account... and use sharing on the other account. Managing two independent databases is too complex, and can lead to losing data.
I currently have a similar setup with a PC... with the data only loaded into one of our accounts. I figured that since I am moving fully to the iMac, then it might be a good time to make an improvement with our music as well.
I would like to have my music library available for my wife on a different user account on my iMac under Lion. The music library is on an external drive on my LANÂ
When I try to select it as the source of music in my wife's account, there are no errors, but nothing happens, the music is not added to her iTunes, it just stays in the welcome screen, where to find music, etc.Â
I read a tutorial on moving the library to a shared folder, but I am hoping I do not have to do that. The drive is available to her library, just that nothing happens after I select it. Â
I have 5 accounts on my iMac. On the main account I have all of the family's calendars. I want to share the kids' calendar on their own account of the computer. Can I do that? I have tried mobile me and I just got frustrated with the duplicates. So I deleted it.

I have tried - Â
1. I have turned on File sharing from System Preferences, shared the new user account (Also everyone), added files/folders to share the entire original user folder...gave all users Read and Write permission...just about everything...
2. I have run Disk Utility and repaired permissions ( the report said some permissions can't be repaired)
3. I have done everything the manuals here have asked me to do...
4. Went to each folder->Get Info->checked Shared Folder. Even after that folders in the new account it says- I have no access( remember I am an admin the new account too)Â

My wife and I have 3 email accounts between us (1 personal one each and a joint email for stuff like banks and bills etc.) When we first got an Imac I set all 3 accounts up in MacMail and ran 3 different inboxes which worked ok apart from the fact that when sending emails we would sometimes mistakenly send our emails from the wrong account (eg my wife would send something from my account or vice versa)
this isn't a huge problem and with a bit of concentration would not happen, however it was inconvenient and needless to say I was kicked out of Mail and had to seek refuge in a copy of Thunderbird. (which I just can't to seem to get along with)
Since then I have been trying to find a way for 2 people to co exist in mail without using 2 separate accounts on the mac (this is not an option as the wife won't have it!!)
Is there anyway to run 2 separate Mail programs in one account?
If we do end up having to share one version of mail does anyone having any tips on reducing the likelihood of sending emails from the wrong accounts?
I am getting my first mac for christmas (a 24" imac) and am planning to setup 3 accounts:
1 for me (admin)
Another one for me (standard)
1 for my brother (standard)
I plan to use the standard one for me as my main account but when installing apps and the like plan to switch to the admin one. What I was wondering is, as far as a I can tell from apple is that if I put music on my standard account my brother would not be able to see the music files, the same for pictures and movies. I would like to be able to share the music files and some pictures across both of our accounts. Would putting the music in itunes from the admin account make this possible and what about pictures? I would also like to keep some pictures private, as would he.
Every file created within the Shared folder is automatically a "read-only" for all other users. How can I make all users able to edit all files within the Shared folder? - The "Apply to enclosed items" does only apply settings to existing files. This means that for every new file you add, you have to press "Apply to enclosed items". - Surely there must be a way to apply the folders setting to all future content? All I want is for this folder to function as any external hard drive; accessible by all accounts without any restrictions!

So I have two iTunes "accounts" because I have an old AOL account - that Apple won't allow me to merge or combine. It is a complete pain - and so I need to find a way of getting some of my purchases from one account onto the other.
I assume the easiest way for songs is just to burn my purchased songs onto a CD then re- import them onto the regular account?
I just bought a new MBP and have transferred all of my music, apps, etc. via my iPhone. My question is, can I sync my wife's iPhone on the same computer without having her iTunes library mix with mine? IMO, her music kinda sucks and I don't want her music, apps, etc. mixed with mine the next time I sync my phone.
View 2 Replies View RelatedNobody else is talking about this problem so maybe it is not so widespread, but 3 of us cannot download any apps or access our accounts on iTunes right now (we have 3 separate computers with 3 separate accounts and separate devices). iTunes is giving the error "We could not complete your iTunes Store request. The network connection was lost. There was an error in the iTunes Store, please try your request again later" and we are completely unable to log in. When we try to download apps on our devices (iPhone 4.0, iPhone 3GS and iPad WiFi + 3G) it gives us a "waiting" status bar by the app and just never loads. Or is the iTunes store / App store actually down right now? Using OS X on iMac (late 2009) and the latest version of iTunes for Mac.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a massive iTunes library. I also know that I have used many iTunes store accounts, is there a way to see what accounts my iMac is authorized to play?
I do not have access to some of them any more and I want to reset the password and update each one to a newer email and write everything down somewhere.
I have always had problems with iTunes sharing. I have iTunes installed on my Windows PC, have sharing on for both the my MBP and the PC. I can always see the Mac library on my windows PC, but not always the other way around. Sometimes the PC library will show up on my laptop, sometimes it wont. Why is it so inconsistent?

On exactly the same server. Is this possible in any way...? By editing some config files or anything...?I just came back to Mac after a long period away, having just discovered the geniality of IMAP-mail.
I have a Windows 7 computer and a Mac running Show Leopard on the same network. On my mac I can see the Windows machine and be able to see and play music off of that computer. The Windows machine does not show the mac at all.
I've reinstalled iTunes on Windows multiple times, turned on and off my firewall and antivirus programs and nothing seems to work.
Any ideas from the crowd? I have an Airport Extreme router too. Any settings on the router that I should be looking at?
are there any apps out there that allow the download of songs from wirelessly shared itunes libraries?
View 1 Replies View Relatedi have a huge itunes library, and i like to share it between family and friends.

He has a Mac and a PC on his network and would like to share his library between these machines. Now sharing the music is easy through the home sharing feature of iTunes, but he would like to take it a step further and also use and edit his playlists on both of the machines and keep them synchronized. Is there anyone who can give me some pointers on how we can set up his system so he can do this?
View 3 Replies View Relatedwe have a macbook pro running Leopard. My wife and I have separate user accounts on the single laptop and keep the music in one central Public folder (both or our iTunes are pointed to this public folder). For some reason, my wife is unable to make any changes to song info (album art, change genre, etc.). However, she can play the music, update her Nano, import music, etc. The only thing she can't do is make changes to the song info. This isn't an issue with my account because I am the primary user account on the computer. We are both set up as Admin and I have assigned Read/Write privileges to all files. Does anyone have any idea what the issue could be? Tech support/program specialist has no idea.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI keep all my iTunes files (podcasts, audio, video, etc.) on my main Windows 7 desktop. I just got a Macbook Pro and so far I've been using the sharing feature in iTunes to listen to my music on the MacBook. I've just set up file sharing on my windows 7 pc and now I'm able to see all the actual files on my MB. I was wondering if there was any way that I could just point my MacBook to the same directory that my windows 7 pc uses for iTunes and have the SAME library file on each computer. when I make changes, add songs, etc, to either computer, the library files would sync (update) the new information and I'd basically have an exact replica on either computer. Of course I realize that this would mean that my Windows 7 desktop would basically be the host for all these files and would have to remain online which is no problem. And I realize that I'd only be able to have one iTunes open at a time, which again is no problem. So basically I'm just wondering if there are any programs that could allow me to do this? I've seen programs that copy all the files from each computer and have them in sync that way, but like I mentioned, I don't want the actual files on my macbook. The windows 7 will be the host. I just want to sync my library files so I can make changes on either computer.
