I had a goodworking SUS (10.6.8) working but the drive is getting full so i change the location of the files to another disk (in the xserve)and follow instructions from Apple (page 84 from the manual System Imaging) sudo cp -p /private/var/db/swupd/html /Volumes/My_Volume/My_Software_Updates_Folder/This works and i copy the files to a new drive. I also change the SUS so that theu host files for Lion clients url..works also, start SUS in Server Admin but when clients wants to connect i get an error that there is no SUS available and when i use the browser for an check i get een Forbidden error url...ForbiddenYou don't have permission to access /index.sucatalog on this server.Apache/2.2.21 (Unix) Server at 127.0.0.1 Port 80.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently attained a new client for IT support, and they have a xserve running Mac 10.4.11, for which the previous IT company supporting it did not give them the admin password. Also they don't have any restore discs of any kind. What I would like to do is wipe the server and upgrade to the newest version, because currently there are only two people touching the server, so now would be an optimal time to do the upgrade before it increases to more. But my main concern is getting access to the files of other users on the server so that I can copy them to an external hard drive, (i'm from the PC environment so essentially taking ownership of the files). What is the best way for me to do this in the Mac world?

So, I'll spare you guys the details, haha, but I am stuck trying to decide between getting an iMac Intel or a MacBook Pro for my home use computer. What would be the advantages of one over the other? I just really love the fact that a MacBook Pro would be portable yet powerful. And yes, I have this iBook for portability to school and such, but if I want to do extensive work on the couch, I could bring a MBP vs. an iMac. What do you all think? Are too laptops redundant?

I have numerous books in iTunes, some PDF files and others ePub files. When I double click on a PDF file book in iTunes, Preview on my MBP will open up allowing me to read it. However, when clicking an ePub file nothing happens. Nothing opens. And of course I'd like for something to open up allowing me to read it on my Mac.
I bring up this thread cause I remember not too long ago Pages allowed for ePub conversion, figuring at the very least Pages could/would open up. Anyone have any recommendations for my wanted outcome of wanting an ePub file from iTunes to open up on my Mac?
i've been using Leopard for a few months already. yesterday, i made a great mistake - i installed ShapeShifter (which currently doesn't support Leopard). the problem is that the Login Window doesn't show up anymore. when i boot my ibook, the system normally loads up and then the blue background appears, so does the cursor... but no login window! i can't really do anything. i'm still not sure if it's the only cause of the problem, cause before the great surprise i also performed a full cleaning with Onyx (yay, this time the Leopard version -.-) but i don't really think that it could cause the problem. now i don't know what to do. haven't tried booting from the Leopard DVD neither the Tiger one, but i think that it wouldn't really help. i also can't access my hdd via network because i can't even log-in. what to do? y point is mainly to recover all my files before i entirely reinstall the system. although i would be really happy if i could get the system working again of course.

1. Transfer info from another Mac
2. Transfer info from a Time Machine backup
Which would offer the most flexibility so I don't transfer too much? I'd like to start fresh but need my photos, internet files, etc. My last time machine backup was yesterday so it's pretty up to date, but I'm worried it will transfer too much crap since it backs up the whole drive.

I tried ejecting it, and whenever I reinsert the usb drive it says: "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer" The usb drive has all my notes from this semester of classes. I really need them or I am completely screwed. Is there any way to recover these files? I've been searching among the forums and online and I can't find anything. My IT dept at school doesnt know what to do. I have no clue what format it was in...I've always used it in my iBook G4 w/ tiger. It's a generic USB drive. I really need these book notes and class notes that were on the disk....I have finals in about a month.

I've pulled the HD and have it connected to my MBP using an external HD adapter. View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to switch from 10.4 to 10.5 - my god, the Finder has become even weirder here. Whenever I want to delete a file from a file server (that sits on a Linux machine and is mounted with smb) I get the message "The item XXX will be deleted immediately. Are you sure you want to continue?". This happens even with my own files. This as such is not the problem, has been like that all the time.
The annoying problem is that now (with 10.5) the default is "Cancel" while it was before (with 10.4) "Delete". This mean that I have to use the mouse to delete instead of just hitting Enter another time. I hate that! Is there a way (or utility perhaps) to change the default to "Delete"? I would not mind to dig into the System for that, I just don't know how to do it.

Since I had no data recovery software for macs, i used easy recovery pro and connected the laptop hard drive to my windows box.Once I had it connected, windows asked me to initialise the hard drive and without even thinking about it I said yes.I did raw(sector by sector) recovery and managed to find a few files. The problem is that now the ibook wont boot no matter what i try. I have tried using disk warrior and repaired the file system.Also when I start it in firewire disk mode and connect it to another macbook, it will load the partition with all the files inside it. So the files are there but it will not allow me to boot the OS.

View 3 Replies View RelatedTwo months ago I switched web hosting providers/services from a Linux server to a UNIX server. For the most part the functionality is fine but the ability to upload files using any FTP client is near impossible. We've tried Fetch (4.x and 5.x) Filezilla, Cyberduck, Dreamweaver, and an old copy of GoLive but it takes 6 minutes or more to upload a 230byte file!. The upload is relatively fast but it hangs up on the exiting handshake, or drops the connection and has to reconnect.
We spoke with Fetch and tested both copies on their UNIX server---no problem. We've tried our other clients on other UNIX, Windows, and Linux servers---no problem. We've had the web host and our service provider look at DNS blocks, etc. and all seems to be fine. Pings and trace routes seem fine. The web host company indicated that they believed that it was an issue with their server but eventually threw up their hands and said that they couldn't figure it out (not Mac friendly I suspect). My questions is two fold:
1) Can anyone give me an idea what IS the problem?
2) Can anyone recommend a good 'Mac-friendly' web hosting service that doesn't have issues with Mac's, will allow installation of a variety of CMS, eCommerce solutions, and of course seamless FTP access with variety of clients.
I'm on a Mac Pro connected via SMB to a Windows 2003 and Finder will not search files on the server. Is there anyway to make this allowable? I can't change anything on the server BTW--only on my Mac.
Just for interest... Adobe Bridge will search the files on the server, but it doesn't catch them all even if I direct it to include subfolders and un-indexed files. It still misses some files that meet the search criteria.
