OS X :: Same For SDK And IPhone
Jun 29, 2009
I used now 20 years microsoft windows. There are several things I like, but what I really hate is the stability. 7 days ago I bought a brand new Macbook Pro 15" with SD card slot, because I heard OS X is more stable, faster, etc.... OK: here is my small summerize:
a) the dock...well, I like the new taskbar from windows7 more. There you have a better overview. At OS X I always ask myself which windows are now really open. I only see icons...but no text. I have to use expose to see this. I don't like to hit always an additional button to get a better overview. Maybe i miss something...
b) the font smoothing from OS X is not my favorite. Really! Dear Mr. Jobs...please rethink this part. The font is for my eyes blurry! I read a lot about the reasons, but you will never convince more ex-windows users, because of the blurry font. I suggest to offer two options of font smooting.
c) small software market for OS X (I am a bit disappointed)
d) safari is perfect
e) it's stable
f) it's fast
g) it's sexy......................

I used Macthe Ripper to rip my sons chuggington dvd to my macbook pro, then i used handbrake to convert it, i managed to copy the converted file to my itunes library, but when i symc my iphone 3gs, it says it won't copy the file because it can't be played on my iphone.Several forums mention using the iphone/ipod touch preset when converting in Hnadbrake, now i may be a numpty, but i cant find this preset anywhere?! The closest thing i can see is an apple button/setting.when i selected apple and told it to play again, it said it would overwrite the prev converted verison. It took hours to convert the first time, if I do this, will it really work? Or will I waste another 3 hours?!

I found out something interesting that brings back two years. Remember that old iPhone, the one that came out on June 2007. Well I think his accessories will save us some money for this new iPhone 4. I went inside my garage and found my old iPhone dock that Apple provided with the original iPhone. I said ?hey maybe this dock will fit the new phone.? And it did EXACTLY what I predicted. The new iPhone 4 dock FITS in the old original iPhone dock. I just saved myself $30 for a new dock!

I can't seem to get my Macbook Pro 13" 2.26Ghz (OS 10.5.7) connect to my iPhone 3G (OS 3.0) via bluetooth. In the Bluetooth Setup Assistant the macbook sees the iPhone 3G, but they don't connect after I accept the connect on the iPhone 3G. The codes on the Macbook and iPhone are the same and, therefore, should connect.
I've searched the Apple Discussions (support) but there is no answer there.

I recently received a dvd from a meeting with lectures that are in flv format. I would like to convert them for use in iTunes so that they are accessible on the iPhone. A few issues:
The DVD is built in multiple folders. For example
Content / lecture 1204 / video / xxxxxx.flv
Content / lecture 5302 / video / xxxxxx.flv
So the first (and biggest) hurdle is whether I can easily 'grab' all of the flv files (buried in their respective folders) to one directory on my macbook. I then need some advice on converting the flv tracks to mp4 ones. I may opt to go the Quicktime Pro route unless handbrake is capable of this as well.

I'm trying to connect an iPhone to a Mac Mini via USB. The cable is known to be good. The USB ports all work with other USB devices. The iPhone works with USB devices on other computers AND if I plug it directly into the wall. When restart the computer with the iPhone plugged in, it connects while the OS is not in the ROM. As soon, however, as the OS starts to boot again, the iPhone disconnects.
I plug the iPhone in and nothing happens, including not indicating that it's charging (this is the problem). With the iPhone still plugged in, I restart the Mac. After all the open applications quit and the finder disappears, the iPhone chirps indicating that it's connected and charging. It stays charging while the Mac cycles through the rest of the restart. When, however, the Mac gets to the point where it starts booting the OS, the iPhone chirps again indicating that it's been disconnected.

10.5.8, 2.16 Core 2 Duo, 2 gb, Itunes 9.0.2 (25), iPhone version 3.0 on a 3G virgin (not unlocked/broken) I can't get my Iphone to sync or charge. I've uninstalled & reinstalled itunes several times, trashing the preferences and killing the itunes helper. I've reset the pram. I've rebooted multiple times with the iphone connected. I downgraded from itunes 9.1 and tried it all again but made no difference. The computer doesn't see it. The usb ports work with other hardware. The sync cable charges fine with the wall outlet adapter. Can't think of what else to do. Please don't make me go buy a blackberry. It will bring a curse upon my household and my children's children.

Running iTunes v. 9.1.0.79. Trying to get ringers on an iPhone 3gs I just purchased yesterday. All of the methods I am seeing (outside of jailbreaking which I don't wan't to do) are not working. I'm assuming that the version of iTunes I am running has corrected the ways that people were using to get ringers. Anyhow, I have mp3 ringers from my other phone saved on my computer. I've tried importing them, converting them to AAC format to no avail. Is there any value in going down in versions to regain the ringer function. Is that possible? I gotta say, I am extremely underwhelmed by the choice of ringers in iTunes. I feel like I've gone back 10 years. if anyone knows of any other way to get ringers onto the iPhone (without jailbreaking) I'd love to hear them.

I'm fairly new to Macs, just got an iMac. So I'm working on getting everything transferred over and set up. I got my iTunes library working and I can sync my iPhone 4 and my iPod Nano 5g just fine. When I hook up my iPod its icon appears on the Desktop and I can explore it with Finder and copy/delete any videos that I've shot with it. The iPod also shows up on the left side of the Finder window in the Devices area. Now when I connect my iPhone it does NOT show up here and it seems like I must sync any photos or videos I have on my iPhone into iPhoto or Aperture. I would think it should show up in the Devices list and on the Desktop too but it doesn't. This seems funky to me but it does sync with iTunes fine. Is this normal? I just don't know if this is how it's supposed to be since I'm a Mac newbie. Is there a way to explore the iPhone through Finder to manage and copy the files?

I have an iPhone 3GS and so does my brother.I control what devices can get on my airport by restricted MAC address access.
However, when my brother is browsing our 10mb fibre optic powered broadband internet on his iPhone 3GS my MacBook Pro gets DOG SLOW and sometimes just doesn't even load pages - just says "Safari is not connected to the internet".
I'll go on my iPhone 3GS to test the internet to load a page and BOOM comes up right away.
Can I order the distribution of preference from the airport to give the best speed to certain devices in preference order?

Has anyone gotten their hands on Outlook for the Mac yet. How does it compare to Apple mail? I am only interested in the email client part. Can this be separated from the rest of outlook?
Can this synch with the iphone? If so how?
Are there alternative email clients for the Mac that are better than apple mail? By this, i mean non web based clients.

Since the MacBook Air has limited hard drive space, I'm wondering - Would it be possible to "sync" things like music, photos, videos, etc. - like I can with my iPhone? I'm thinking I could sync the MacBook Air with my desktop, and take with me only the photos/music/etc that I want to travel with.

Just set up my iphone MyNZB app to work with my home MBP. I set up DynDNS to direct the app to my dynamic home IP and I'm hooked. I wanna do more! My computer at work sadly is a PC. If I want to use my mobileme back to my mac option, I've gotta find a Mac to login and do so with. It's great, but it's not convenient. Question is, there's so much VNC and RDC type programs out there, both paid and free. And there's different stuff for the iphone. What's people's recommendations? Is there a good free/cheap option that works on iPhones, PCs, and maybe even other Macs for me to remote into? Something so if I wanted to get some tasks done at home I could use my work computer? Of course any port forwarding that I'd need to do on the work end can't happen. But at home it's no problem of course. Oh, and my home's router is an AEBS.
