OS X :: Safe To Delete EFI Partition?

Apr 15, 2010

After getting my hard drive corrupted by dual boot of Linux, and having to delete everything, I decided to not use it again. With the fresh install of OSX, I inspected the partitions in Terminal and deleted most of them. However, there is a 200mb EFI partition still there. Is it safe to delete it, or will deleting it mess up my system again?

OS X :: How To Delete The Time Machine Partition And Resize The Partition?

Jan 9, 2009

I recently bought my mother a Macbook. It was a store display one but she had no problems with that. Anyways when we first boot it up I noticed that on the desktop there is a Time Machine disk. So I openMacintosh HD that there is only 17 gbs free out of 33 gb, so I check System Profiler to see if there is a smaller hd in there but the it says that the hd is 150 gb.

So I'm wondering how to delete the time machine partition and resize the Macintosh HD partition so I can give her the most space she can get.

ITunes :: Is It Safe To Delete TV Shows From HDD

Jun 2, 2012

Basically a repeat of this question : "Now that my tv shows are in the cloud, is it safe to delete them from my hard drive to make more room?  Theoretically, I can redownload them if needed, or is it best to have a physicsl backup of them?"  The answer they got was : "iCloud is still in Beta. I would recommend that you try with one show, make a copy of it and then try out. But wait until iCloud and Lion 10.7.2 is out." However, this was in august 2011. I was wondering if iCloud is out of beta yet (i don't recall the word beta being written next to it any of the times i've seen it) and it would now be safe to do so. I'm running out of room on my hard drive so i was considering getting a time capsule to store new films, but if i can just delete tv shows my problem will be sovled for quite a while.

So in my 'Adobe Acrobat X Pro' folder I have this app called 'Acrobat Distiller'. Google says that its used when you work with postscripts files and want to convert them to pdf. Does anyone know if Distiller is used for something else? I only work with pdf files, so I was wondering if it was safe to delete Distiller. And if I delete it, does anyone know if I will have problems when there is an update for Acrobat, maybe it will complain about missing files?

Applications :: Safe To Delete Final Cut Pro Cache Folders?

Dec 1, 2008

So I have created a video presentation for a project I am working on using Final Cut Pro. I noticed Final Cut Pro creates a default folder in Documents called "Final Cut Pro Documents." This folder contains six additional folders:

1. Audio Render Files
2. Autosave Vault
3. Capture Scratch
4. Render Files
5. Thumbnail Cache Files
6. Waveform Cache Files

Is it safe to delete these six folders? I wouldn't otherwise care, but collectively they are taking up 25 GB on my HD. I'm not planning to delete the actual FCP project files and their attached media, but rather the above six folders which appear to be cache? Do I run any risk of losing my entire presentation if I delete these six folders, or is it simply a matter of just re rendering my project if I delete them?

OS X :: Hard Drive Full - Safe To Delete Previous System Folder

Oct 5, 2009

I recently check my 150 GB hard drive and noticed that I only have 10 GTB left. While going through my files to check what I don't need or want, I noticed that I have a folder called Previous Systems. Inside this folder are two other folders with dates for names. Each folder has approximately 20 GB for a total of 40 GB. Can I simply toss this folder? It does not seem to do anything. The folder must have been created from a backup some time ago. I don't recall doing that.

Intel Mac :: Can't Reformat Or Delete A Partition

Jul 2, 2012

I have an early 2006 iMac with the notorious GPU issues so after replacing it with a new Mac Mini it's time to sell the iMac for parts.  I'm trying to reformat the hard drive with no success - I boot off of the original Mac OS X 10.4.4 CD, launch Disk Utility, but whenever I try to erase the disk or delete the partition the program freezes.  I've even tried using GParted Live! CD to delete the partition and the same thing happens - whenever I assess it, it locks GParted as well!  Funny thing is, I can still boot off of the hard drive just fine.I should mention that the hard drive has 10.5.8 installed - perhaps there's an incompatibility between Disk Utility 10.4 and the installed OS?

OS X :: Delete EFI System Partition - Convert GPT Back To MBR

Apr 12, 2009

I converted a 500G External USB SATA hard drive from MBR to GPT no problem. It could be done using either Vista 32bit or WinXP 64bit the conversion under XP Pro SP3 32bit was not possible maybe because diskpart was still an older version and not updated to a newer version. My work on the Mac is done now and I want to convert my drive back to MBR so I can use it with windows. I've erased and then deleted all the partitions I had created on the drive. Using WinXP 32bit and Disk Management I see only one big partition (465.76 GB Healthy (GPT Protective Partition)) Using WinXP 64bit and Disk Management I can see there is a 200Mb EFI Systems Partition followed by 464.44 Gb of Unallocated space. How do I get rid of this EFI Systems Partition that is stopping me when using diskpart to convert to MBR?

My sister bought a second hand Mac Book Pro. According to Mac Book Pro specs. this unit should have had a 250G - 320G Hard Drive but someone had replaced with a 120G before she got her hands on it. My assumption then is that theywhoever it was that switched the drive must have also replaced the DVD drive at the same time as well........................
