OS X :: Recover Information From Broken Hard Drive

Oct 13, 2009

my MacBook harddrive stopped working last week. I took it to a Mac Certified guy, but he was unable to recover any of the applications or files on the drive. This is the second drive in two years. The first one I was able to find a guy who recovered everything and put it onto disks. I tried those on the new harddrive, and the iPhoto application and files are not opening. Is there any way to recover the stuff on the second hard drive?

OS X :: Broken External Hard Drive/how To Recover Data?

Mar 5, 2009

Our old Toshiba External Hard drive has failed ( approximately 3 years old ). It powers on and the blue light comes on, but the fans don't spin and you can't see it in the finder or on my computer ( we tried on both PC and Mac ).

Any ideas as to how I can retrieve the data... without going to a specialist and pay , or would that be the only option

Hardware :: Recover Data From Dead Lacie Hard Drive / Unable To Mount Hard Drive

Sep 6, 2009

Today I went to plug in my Lacie 250 GB USB external hard drive into my 13 in. MacBook to get a shirt template for a design I am making. I discovered that the hard drive just would not mount and show on the desktop, and I remembered that this happened a few days before, but all I did was unplug it and plug it back in, and it worked... except that today, that didn't work at all. I tried the other USB port, and the hard drive showed up on the desktop for about a second, and then disappeared. I kept on replugging it back into both USB ports, but nothing happened.

Then I tried to see if it would work on the PC beside me, and it was recognized as an external device; however, a message came up telling me the drive was malfunctioning. I am guessing this is from ejecting it incorrectly (because I am in a hurry to head to my next classes...I use this laptop at school), but I have incorrectly disconnected it before in the past and this problem never happened to me before.

Every single project I have ever created for my design career is on that hard drive, and all I want now is to get my files back. All I need it to do is show up on the desktop for just the right amount of time for me to copy my files onto my computer.

I read online to put it into the freezer for a while and it should mount, but that didn't work. I tried using Disk Warrior, Data Rescue 3, and Tech Tool Deluxe, but the hard drive did not show up on any of those apps.I tried plugging the hard drive into an iMac as well, but it did not show up either.

If the hard drive on the mac mini is completely reformatted and I plug it into the USB port on the external hard drive which I partition and install the Leopard DMG would it be able to boot off of it?

I went to genius bar yesterday because some problems with the privies hard disk drive. They gave me the toshiba as a replacement. I wasn't required to sign any paper after that. Before when I got a replacement iphone or macbook charger, they both asked me to sign a paper. I don't know why this time is different. Also I heard that Toshiba hard drive is worse than Samsung's.By the way, I didn't erase my documents in previous hard drive, will anyone be able use or read them? OS X :: Recover Data Fom Hard Drive / External Drive Stopped Mounting

Sep 4, 2009

So, I've been searching the forums, as I just had a 1TB (well actually a dual 500GB) external drive stop mounting and start clicking on me. I'm trying to find a way to recover files, and I know I've seen a lot of posts on DriveSavers, which. I was searching around, and I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of a company called "OneWorld Data Recovery." It was something I stumbled across, but I can't find any reviews, or nail down anybody who's used it.

Clearly, this seems fairly suspect, but I figured I'd check and see if anybody had ever heard of it or used it. Thanks!

MacBook :: Hard Drive Full - Am I Duplicating Information?

May 28, 2010

My 120 GB internal Hard Drive is finally full. I click on the finder and I go on to see where
it is so full:
Pictures 13,47 GB
Music 15,64 GB
Movies 23,55 GB
Documents 15,05 GB
Applications 1,05 GB
Desktop 18,48 GB

Then also, igmolinav (the only user of this laptop and represented by the icon of a little house) has 35,37 GB. I never go directly to the user igmolinav, but he takes up 35,37 GB, or almost one fourth of the hard drive's capacity. I don't know a lot about how computers work, I just fear that some information may have been duplicated, and I need really need to free up a bit the hard drive.

OS X :: Need To Wipe Hard Drive Of Broken Machine

Jun 13, 2009

I recently destroyed my Macbook pro (didn't react to well to a cider) and I have contacted my insurance company who are going to send out a new one. They initially suggested that I get to keep the hardrive from the machine, but now they are insinuating that I have to send in the entire machine. I have lots of data on the drive including unprotected bank details and other sensitive information.

I somehow need to wipe this clean by monday when I need to send it off. Problem is I have no idea how to do this, the machine won't boot, all I have is a imac, I don't even have a fire wire cable that is compatible between the two machines so I can't start it in target disk mode. I refuse to send it to them with my data on it so my last resort will be to destroy the drive itself (although how I do this without causing structural damage is beyond me).

MacBook Air :: Hard Drive To Replace A Broken One

I recently bought a MBA but after some months the HD gave up. So I bought a generic Samsung HS082HB 1,8" zif HD to replace the broken HD. I thought I bought the right one but my MBA wasn't able to recognize the new HD. This new HD is a generic Samsung while the original was the one with the apple () printed on the label. So I ask you: do I need the certified one or did I miss something in replacing the HD?

MacBook :: Cloning A Broken Hard Drive?

Mar 28, 2012

So my hard drive just broke. Like a fool I accidently dropped it this morning and this means it cant be booted. I've tried everything I could find on reviving the thing but nothing has worked. However, after leaving it on the grey Apple booting screen for a good hour or so it finally managed to get to the desktop but was still going slowly. My macbook is able to boot of my external hard drive and I've checked the RAM and it's fine, which leaves me to believe that it's a problem with the hard drive itself.

Now the issue is that my external hard drive is only 160GB and my internal (now broken) one is 500GB with around 300GB of stuff on it (yes I do need it) and I don't want to have to lose it all. So is there any way of getting my currently broken hard drive and putting its data onto a new one? My idea is to take it out, install the new one and use the broken was as an external and do it like that.

OS X :: 15'' MacBook Pro (1st Generation) Broken - Access Hard Drive

Jan 22, 2010

I purchased a first generation 15'' MacBook Pro. My hard drive had crashed, so I backed up all my information and installed a new hard drive. Everything worked fine for about two weeks until the contact area between my power cord and the computer started to smoke. I've no longer been able to turn on my computer. I've had strange issues with my non-warrantied MacBook--including having to replace the battery four times over my three years of owning it and twice having to replace my power adapter (as it literally caught fire twice).

I've since given up on the MacBook Pro and purchased a new cheap laptop. However, I've got lots of important files on that brand new hard drive I put into my laptop. As I'm assuming the hard drive itself is still functional, I want to know how I could remove it and obtain my data. Do any of you know what sort of chassis I could purchase in order to essentially use my MacBook Pro's hard drive as an external drive to obtain these files?

My macbook suddenly crashed and I had to do a forced shutdown. When I tried to turn it back in, a folder with a question mark kept flashing and by computer did not start. I looked up what might have been the cause of this, and I found out it was my hard drive or the cable that connects the drive to the mac. But I brought it to my school since they have tech support and they said that my hard drive is pretty much dead, but it can still be possible to retrieve the data from. I need to hand in my Extended essay in about one week and I already had done quite a lot for my essay. how to get all my data back, or past it to a new hard drive.

OS X :: Recover Data From Initialised Hard Drive In 10.1?

May 6, 2009

A friend emailed last night saying he had a drive that had been 'acidentally formatted' (that's a lot of accidental mouse clicks if you ask me), that it took 2 seconds to format so it should have not actually wiped any data on there.

I've used Disk Warrior in other circumstances but never tried on an initialised drive. Nor would I know how to get a copy of such old software.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what software from that time might recover the data?

I was wondering if anyone could think of a way to get the disk to mount so I can recover files saved to it. I have Tech Tools, and Data Rescue II to recover the drive but as long it is not being recognized by the computer those applications are useless.
