View 16 RepliesI just got my MBP yesterday, and so far it's been incredibly frustrating. Trying to download Firefox, 3 separate times, I get "image corrupted" errors when I try to open the .dmg. This is probably the 10th+ time it's happened today errors ranging from "invalid checksum" (from Facetime, downloaded from Apple), to "error -199". Any ideas what's going on? The same things appear to be just find on my Mac Pro, and they're running the same software. Already ran verify/repair disk multiple times.
View 1 Replies View RelatedLion introduced several gigantic bugs when it comes to trackpad gestures. Go to System Preferences>Trackpad>More Gestures, and look at the options for "Swipe between pages":BUG
#1: If you choose "Scroll left or right with 2 fingers", this only works in Safari to go back/forward, but it no longer works in other apps like the Finder.
BUG #2: If you choose "Swipe with 2 or 3 fingers", you can use 3 fingers in all apps but not 2 fingers.
BUG #3: If you choose "Swipe with 2 or 3 fingers", you can go back a page in Safari using 3 fingers, but you don't get the animation of going back like you do when you use 2 fingers.
Apple needs to make all of these options consistent across the board, so that you can always use 2 or 3 fingers, and that it works in all apps, and that you always get the animations.

I just love my new MBP that came with Apple SSD in it. However, I have only 128GB SSD so I don't want to fill it up too quickly. Today, I deleted tons of old emails in the Mail app since I remember that doing so can free up some space in HDD in my iMac. Surprisingly, I found that after I deleted those emails and emptied the trash, the used space of SSD went from 40.45GB up to 40.51GB . That was not the end of the story because 10 minutes after that the used space came down to 40.48GB . I monitored the used space of SSD by istat pro, if that matters.

View 15 Replies View RelatedWhen Snow Leopard came out, I backed up via Time Machine and did a clean install, then restored via Time Machine. Ive been having three main problems, among a few small ones. When I right click the dock, half the time it freezes, denying access to the dock or finder for a good minute or two. Also, front row puts tagged tv shows in the movie section, and catagorizes them as "various" in the tv show section. On top of all that, safari is acting up.
Ok so I was planning on upgrading the ram to 3GB, the HD to 500GB, and do a fresh install of snow leopard. I'm assuming that time machine backs up all the system files and garbage that clogs up the system, so I'm planning on just dragging the files to a external hard drive, installing snow leopard on a brand new 500GB drive, then moving my files back. Will this fix my bugs? Or should I just install leopard instead? Btw leopard ran pretty slugish after a while, and sl did make my computer faster, but I assume the ram upgrade will keep leopard up to par.
I am a graphic designer and therefore have a LOT of software (Adobe, Quark, the usual suspects). I want to upgrade to Snow Leopard on my G5 with 16G of RAM. I have made a copy of my 500GB startup drive with Carbon Copy Cloner and I am ready to wipe the original disc and make it happen. But before I start, can I drag and drop my applications and library folders so I don't have to reinstall everything?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been configuring Mac OSX Servers for a while, but in every configuration I have seen many bugs in Access lists. For example, if I put a group in an access list and then I add an user to the group, the ACL is not applied to that user. I have to add it manually to the ACL.Is it normal? I've read the whole documentation, but no clues on what makes this happen. Also if I put "special" permissions into a folder (for example, anybody DENY delete this folder only) it doesn't work. The permissions is the first in the list.
the effective permissions inspector works with the second try (I drag and drop the same folder two times and different permissions appear). Does anybody have issues like these?

Uses for G4 Quicksilver?
Just bought it yesterday, have Puma on it currently, gonna upgrade to tiger when i get the disc.
What could i use it for, Server? iTunes streaming?
I've read tutorials on it, Ive downloaded it, played with it, uninstalled it. I have to be missing something here. To me it looks just like a more complicated way to get to programs and things you want. What am I missing? What does it really do? I don't get why everyone is so in love with this program. Everything online I find about it gushes about how great it is but always ends up boiling down to "it helps you open applications faster".

I have purchased a WD Caviar SE - EIDE HD Question: can I just run it inline with the operating (boot) HD off the ATA bus, or do I need to get an IDE PCI adapter card?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI purchased a used ATI X850 XT AGP 2-slot for PC, not the single slot found as OEM on PowerMac G5s. The goal is to flash it with the equivalent Mac bios so that I can use it in my Mac G4 867MHz Quicksilver (2001). By the way, I already know that I have to cover up pins 3 and 11 in order for an 8x AGP card to work in my Apple 4x AGP slot.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just set out to initialize the drive of my old G4 800 DP, using the system disc. Everything began fine but when I returned the screen was black, and video wasn't being picked up. I decided to force reboot and start over, but now I cannot get my mac to boot at all. Black screen with no video. Cannot boot from firewire target drive. Machine won't recognize system disc. When I boot there is no chime. I hear the machine apparently working hard to read the system disc but nothing happens and it eventually ejects the disc. I've tried 3 different discs, so I know it's the machine not the disc. Pressing "option" at startup has no effect. I also know it's not my LCD, as it works fine with my other machine. Anyone have any idea about what's going on here and what I can do to regain access to my machine?

The one in the middle has a "play" icon on it although it is pointing in the wrong direction to be a play button. It points to the left. The other smaller one has the look of a reset button.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI can't seem to find specific information that would tell me if a 1.25 GHz processor from a MDD G4 would swap into a G4 Quicksilver (733 MHz) I have sitting in a corner.
They are both single processor machines, but I question the compatibility. I don't have the MDD machine with the 1.25 GHZ processor yet, so I can't look at them both for comparison.
Why were some Powermac G4's names have Quicksilver in them? Is it a special line or what? Whats the diffrence between the G4 "Quicksilver" and the regular g4?

Question: Will this computer be good for some light movie editing and watching home videos and youtube? Cause my g3 is too slow to play any videos. I just want to know to get some advise if this is a really good deal or i should just save up more money and buy a newer mac.

More background on the situation:
I have zapped the PRAM.
It will not boot into safe mode..................
My powermac keeps crashing about after a few hours of use.
I installed some new samsung 1gb x 2 ram.
The hardware test and techtool show no problems but I'm positive the ram is the culprit.
I use a program called 1Password (which is pretty much the freakin' coolest application out there, other than Quicksilver). Click here for more info about this app...For the longest time now, I have been dying to get the developers of 1Password to integrate their program with Quicksilver so that I could use QS to launch any of my saved 'web form' entries (which are basically 1Password database entires that store a URL, and your corresponding username/password for that for that URL - and when a web form is launched via the programs 'Go-and-fill' command, the application will open the specified website in your browser and will automatically log you in, without the need for any user intervention whatsoever).
