View 1 RepliesIs there a way of getting Safari to open a link in a new tab in the existing window rather than opening a new window? Before anyone shouts I have got that ticked in the preferences, but it doesn't do it.
Here is an example of what I mean, in google mail, if I choose the google finance option, it opens it in a while new window, not in a new tab in the same window.
I get a random door bell sound at random times, even if the IMac is off. What do I do?

does anyone know how to keep a window (from a program your not working in) in front at all times? For example if your watching a movie in a window but want to edit a photoshop file in another.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a 21.5" iMac bought in November 2009. I am having a strange happening with it. I have just been using Mail, clicked on the red button at the top left to quit, but the mail window just kept disappearing all but about 3mm off the screen to the top and top left and not quitting. I have also had this happen when using Safari, occasionally if I click on a link on the page to another open another page Safari disappears off the top and top left except for about 3mm.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an old HP Pavilion 700 that I am having trouble with. A few months ago, I replaced its power supply because the fan inside of it would start up for about a second and then shut off. The problem I am having now is the fan (shown in pic) connected to the motherboard is shutting off at random times and causes the external display to go blank. But the fan inside the power supply will always stay on though. Sometimes, I can get the computer completely booted up for about 10 minutes and use it just like normal before this happens. Other times, I can only get as far as the startup screen before the fan and screen shut off.

So the problem that I'm having is that at random times I lose connection. At the same time the PC-s that are connected to the same network have connection, plus the ISP said that everything seems to be fine on their side. So there seems to be an issue with the WiFi on the MB. It just loses the connection and can't find it for about a minute and some times it takes about 5 minutes for it to reconnect to the network. And the problem isn't limited to only one network, but actually happens in different networks. It started as a minor inconvenience, but now it's starting to really bug me. And it seems that I'm not even making it up: [URL]
I am a new mac user and a sound similar to the "Frog" sound effect keeps playing at random times and with no apparent reason. It just plays and at different times...Sometimes it's every 20 seconds, sometimes more or less. I disabled the sound in System Preferences and it kept playing. I don't know what else to do since i'm new with mac I also reseted the PRAM and it stopped for a while but now it started again. I've noticed that most of the times it sounds when i'm charging the battery, i don't know if it has something to do.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe last 2 days my iMac has completely frozen on me at random times. Frozen meaning, no mouse movement, no keyboard activity (caps lock not responding) and no OSX activity whatsoever. Temp at the time 41C, CPU Usage at 21% or smth, Fan speed at around 1200rpm. However, I don't get the infamous kernel panic error. I haven't changed anything hardware wise. I did have a couple of months ago the graphics glitch problem. Last software update was the iWork one. iMac is Aluminum 20' with C2D 2.4 and ATi 2600 Pro.

Today, suddenly, my finder has started quitting whenever I go to the "applications" tab. Every other part of the finder works but the applications refuse to open. It's worrying me because I think it could be one of those few mac viruses. I'm running a virus scan at the moment to see.
Also on the possible virus front. I had cleaned my HDD the other day and gotten it to 58 gigs left of free space. A few days later it came up as 78 free though which confused me.
I'm aware of the Airport issue mentioned on these forums (and have tried the kext fix for that without any luck). I have KPs when watching 4+ minute long videos on Youtube (have no issue using iMovie for longer videos or watching videos from my own harddrive), sometimes when the screensaver is on or shortly after the computer goes unidle, and sometimes for no apparent reason. I've already had 2-3 KPs in the past 4 hours. This is my first Mac and not at all what I was expecting.
Sometimes the screen will flicker rapidly, other times I will get a black screen, pink screen, or the screen will "glitch" and move halfway to the left (right is now on the left and left on the right). I can sometimes delay the crash if I pause the video (the screen starts to twitch or have "lightning" flashes across parts of it) but it will eventually crash anyway.
I usually use Firefox but have had the same crash in Safari so it's not browser-related as far as I can tell.

I think I found a bug in iTunes, because I can find no other explanation. Every once in a while (like once every three weeks) my iTunes window goes down. By this I mean everytime i click a different playlist, view, category, iTunes store, the window moves down a bit leaving this gap at the top. It randomly comes and goes, and its not really a big deal, but it does get really annoying. Is anyone else getting this? and no, im not just moving the window down
Heres a before and after:
I need a plug-in/add-on/application that will block certain websites I want at certain times. For example, block Youtube and Facebook from 4-6PM. Preferably these settings would be difficult or impossible to change once in place, haha. I want to be strict and not let myself procrastinate during the upcoming school year and I think this is the only way to actually do it.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI got a new imac about three weeks ago, and I can't understand why safari randomly will display the wrong pages for the site i want to go. I'm on one site then after clicking on a line it will load up another page i may have visited before or at the same time in another tab. Example i'm trying to access a clothing store and its showing me an ebay error, i get random errors trying to go to youtube, i try going to wikipedia and it loads cragslist. Is it malware?
View 4 Replies View RelatedQuite a while back, I switched from Firefox back to Safari, because Firefox was driving me crazy with it's intermittent freezes and whatnot. Safari was so much faster and allowed tabbing to menu form fields (which I think Firefox still does not do). But lately, it seems like Safari just slogs through everything it tries to do. Google maps is painful. Loading up the CBS website earlier took over a minute, and not because of a slow connection.
The spinning beachball now appears on every click it seems. This is was Safari 3, so I updated to Safari 4 beta, and it doesn't seem much better. It's odd because it didn't used to be like this...It just sort of started out of nowhere. One thing I do notice is that my hard drive is just churning away with activity at these times. Any ideas what could cause such random slowdowns? Restarting does not help. It's just as slow afterward.

I put off doing the software update on Safari... I just HAD a feeling something would go wrong and I didn't have time to mess with it if it did.
So today I ran and update. And it messed up.
Now Safari will "open"... it looks like it is open and I have access to all the menus. But a Safari window will not open.
I am surprised that I haven't seen others with this problem. I have tried deleting the cache and deleting the preferences file. Neither seem to have made ANY difference.
I'm at a loss as to what to do. And I am feeling like I'm missing a body part. I need my Safari back!
I recently bought a mac book and i downloaded Chrome, but I think i downloaded something after that caused a virus cause i got inappropriate adds, which my sister was able to fix. I still get these random blank pages that turn into adds for mac keeper or mix and it pops up almost every time i want to click something it really bothers me because i have to constantly close it. i have tried re-downloading it but it still wont work.

So, I am using Safari Beta 4 however I don't think its the beta that is the problem.
I am clicking a link to open a PDF in Safari and it brings up the window asking what program to use to open it... however, Preview is grayed out and I cannot change to "Enable All Applications" like you can normally, i guess because it's in Safari it's different.
I am pretty sure this started happening when I deleted an Adobe Acrobat Pro trial.
Any one have some insight they would like to share?
The only thing that keeps me from using Safari is the way that target="_blank" links open in new windows, and there is no option to open them in new tabs.
Yes, I'm well aware of Command-click, right-click, etc. Those are not a good solution. It's the surprise new windows that bother me.
I'd like these surprise links to open as tabs rather than windows. However, I'd also like specifically-sized Javascript pop-up windows to open the way they were designed to: As pop-up windows.
I've used Saft in the past. It does a nice job with the first half of the problem, but does not accommodate the specifically-sized Javascript pop-up windows.
Yeah, this thread has come up several times before. Just wondering if anything has changed since the last one, or if Saft is still the best game in town.
I am using Safari 5.0.2 on a Macbook Pro running OS 10.5.8. I have Safari set as my default browser and I have RSS feeds set in Safari preferences to use Google Reader as my default RSS reader. Problem is when I click the RSS indicator in the address bar of Safari to add the feed Camino opens up with the dialog to add the feed to Google Reader.Obviously this should happen in Safari not Camino. I also have Google Chrome, Firefox, and Opera installed along with Camino and Safari. All the other browsers RSS work as they should. What could be causing this in Safari?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI can't seem to find the right preference order to make it so when I click on a link that should open a new tab, it instead keeps opening up a new window. I have the first and third option checked in the tabs preference but it doesn't seem to matter. I might be delirious from playing with leopard all day/night, but I just want to figure this one last option out before bed. I Would like to open links in new tab WITHOUT having to hold down the command key.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI run a MBP early 2008 2.5 Penryn. I have 6GB OWC RAM and a 500GB Hitachi HDD. I run SL 10.6.2. From time to time, Safari freezes my computer for a time between a few seconds up to about 15 seconds, when I open a new tab with "CMD+T" or a new window with "CMD+N". As the whole computer freezes during this time, it is pretty annoying.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having serious issues with Safari 4. It's extremely glitchy and laggy, freezing for seconds when I open new tabs, or even when I scroll down. Many times I'm forced to force quit because it remains frozen. I have a Black Macbook with Leopard on it. The computer still performs excellently, so perfomance isn't an issue. When Safari freezes and I have to quit, I'm typically on flash heavy sites (which I'm sure adds fuel to the fire). But Safari almost always lags for me.
