I have all my media on an external Firewire 800 drive. On that drive i have multiple folders and sub folders. The problem is when I click on any of those folders it open the contains in a new window, rather than letting me just click through. it's frustrating as I can end up with half a dozen windows open to get to one file. This only happens on external drives. Is there a way to fix this?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI would like to transfer my iTunes library to my phone to use as a secondary/backup iPod. The problem is that I have a lot of music, and iTunes organizes the music by putting music in separate folders via artist, and then more separate folders by album. This means there is no easy way to transfer all of my music over. I'd have to manually click on every folder, and copy songs one by one, which would take a super long time.
Is there a way to like select my iTunes Music folder and be able to get all of my music?

I bought a Seagate Free Agent Go Flex External drive. I transferred all my files from my previous external HD. When I went to access my folders on my external HD, the folders are all locked, with Sharing and Permission section in the Information "Everyone: Read" only! I can't change any of the information or move things! All of them are locked and "read only." I know how to change it, but only manually, individually. I have several hundreds of folders and I don't want to manually change all of them to "Read & Write." Is their a way to let me re-set the folders to "Read & Write" easily??

I have a question for the the Safari geeks out here (1.1.1 version 100.1, running on MacOSX 10.3.2): I have imported my bookmarks from a Mozilla install on a Linux box, based on a hint I found here with the debug options (worked great!!!), and I have the following questions related to adding a new bookmark (based on the fact that my bookmarks are organized in multi-level folders, e.g. OperatingSystems->Linux->Security->Firewall, etc.):
- when opening Bookmarks->Add bookmark ..., how could I possibly collapse all the levels, so that I can easily scroll, and open/drill down into the appropriate level of bookmarks, without having to scroll thrrough all (by default) expanded levels? ... especially critical as some sub-categories may match names, with different higher level bookmarks, thus having to make sure I am where I want to be (e.g. I have a Security folder under OS->Mac, as I have one under OS->Linux, and I have to remember which one I am under, if the "parent" is out of the scrolling window);
- is there any easy way to add a new "level/folder", through Bookmarks->Add bookmark, at the time of salvaging a new one, vs. having to open the Bookmarks in a new window, adding the folder, then returning to add the new bookmark?

id like the notes i take in class on the mbp to sync with the imac when i get home. Id like my picture folders, design work folders, and documents folders to be in sync on both computers whenever im home.
if i add new pictures on the mbp, take new notes, or work on a .psd file.
I want them available on the imac without me having to manually bring them over and vice versa.
i just need a way for the folders to sync whenever im home.
that way when i do a back up on my imac, it also has a back up of the folders on the mbp.
When I open itunes Podcast section I find that it shows multiple folders or podcasts with the same name. I want these to show up as just one podcast. why I have multiple 'sent' folders in one of my mail accounts?
As you can see from the screen grab, relating to the 'Skittles' account, there is one 'sent' under Inbox/Skittles, one under 'Sent' and another further down under SKITTLES.
What seems to happen is that any emails sent from my Mac go into one folder, ones from iOS devices go somewhere else, etc.

Is there any way I can select all the .txt docs and paste them in one big folder? In other words, is there a way of removing all the sub-folders and putting all the .txt files together in one place?

You have copy a file and have to paste it to multiple folders. I hope I do not have to paste it folder after folder.

Deleting a single message or folder works fine. However, when I try to delete a folder with subfolders, even though I reply to the 'are you sure' message by clicking "yes," the folder and subfolders initially disappear yet, immediately upon refresh, all folders and subfolders reappear and I find that the instruction has been completely ignored.

I have three internal drives in my Mac Pro. I partitioned one into 2 volumes. On one of those volumes, I keep an older OS (10.4) along with some folders for holding video files I'm either working on or downloaded and keep for viewing. I don't know what happened but suddenly, all the files in those folders disappeared. Other folders on that volume are ok. This is not my boot drive. The missing files amount to 20 or 30 GBs. They are not in the trash. They seem to have simply disappeared. I ran disk utility to repair permissions; I booted from my install disk and repaired all; I tried making invisible files visible; I shut down and switched drive bays for the three internal drives. Still, the one drive in question, shows no signs of all the files I had on it.

When you drag a folder in Windows to another folder that contains a folder with the same name, it asks if you want to replace any filenames or folders that have the same name. So, in the end, it merges the two folders together.
Mac OS X, on the other hand, completely replaces them. My question is: How can I merge a folder like in Windows?
Here's my setup: I have three Macs and one PC sharing a wireless network with a Belkin N+ router and a 2 TB external HD shared via the router. The HD is formatted in NTFS as a legacy of originally being mostly used with the PC (and the router will only read NTFS.) I've installed NTFS-3G to be able to read and write to the drive from the Macs. Everything works dandy.
My question: I'd like to be able to restrict access to one of the folders on the HD somehow; either to just one of the Macs, or via password. I have no clue where to start with this.
