View 7 Replies View RelatedMy husband's computers use Tiger and Leopard (10.5.8) to access his email on the Mail program. His mail is from Comcast and uses the Comcast server, not apple or iCloud. His mail suddenly stopped working a couple of days ago.....as it did on one of my machines that still uses Tiger. He had not done any updates that could have broken the software. He does not have iCloud except on his phone and he doesn't even have a .mac address. There is no reason for the comcast server to not be able to be accessed by Mail app. He did finally update everything that needed it and it still does not work. Why would Apple's change over to iCloud break email access from other servers and how can we fix it. He really doesn't want to do his mail on Comcast's web site as it's slow and awkward.Â

I love Mail but have become bored of the icon. Is it possible to change the icon the the Postbox one? still with the notifications on the dock.
Here's Postbox if you don't know what it is: [URL]
Mail worked fine until last Friday; then, suddenly,I can't send email. I can download email, surf the net, and write this, but no email out. After 4 days of apparent attempts to fix the problem, Comcast says it's an Apple problem. Apple has sent several fixes to me. Still I can't send email.
I get an error message: "sender address ..........@comcast.net was rejected by the server." If I use a browser and go to Comcast, my address and password gets me in immediately.
Making several attempts at changing Ports, at times, the error message is, "Port 25 has timed out."
I have gone through Mail Preference settings several times with Comcast and and also with settings that Apple sent.
Any idea how to do the above? I have it set up on my mac mini but cant remember how I did it to set it up on my new MBP? Its def not a mail rule.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe updated our computer to a new system over the weekend (emac to a new iMac). Since then the number of unread messages shows up on the mail icon only all messages have been read. How do I get rid of the number icon? We had this problem once before when we upgraded our system but I don't remember how we got rid of it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to Leopard quite some time ago and do not recall having any problems. I bought OS X Leopard to upgrade my parents' computers this weekend (got a good deal :-) and in both cases, their Mail did not work following the upgrade. I thought this was odd since I've never had problems upgrading OS X in the past. I also found out today at work that a friend of mine just picked up a new Mac Mini this weekend and migrated from his old iMac (running Tiger) and experienced a similar problem so perhaps there is a problem upgrading to more recent versions of Leopard. I looked in the forums but did not readily find an answer to this problem. I tried a few things, including putting aside the preferences file (plist) for mail without success.
The symptoms:
Mail comes up for the first time after the upgrade or migration from another computer and says the conversion of the mail database to the new Mail format is complete, but the message window does not open automatically and when you open it, it does not show any of your old messages. The Mail app also does not actually get mail when you ask it to, just kind of sits there. I let it go for quite a while but nothing different happened. "Quit" does not quit it, you have to force quit it.
Here's what I did to get my parents' computers fixed up:
1. Make sure Mail is not running. Force Quit if you have to.
2. Go into you <home>/Library folder.
3. Rename the "Mail" folder to something else (I used "Mail.old")
4. Start Mail.app. This time Mail will get mail from your mail server(s) but still will not show any old mail messages.
5. If any of the new incoming mail is important to you, save (export) it out somewhere.
6. Quit mail. A normal quit should work now.
7. Go into your <home>/Library folder again.
8. Delete the new "Mail" folder (do not delete the one you renamed earlier).
9. Rename the folder you renamed in step 3 ("Mail.old") back to "Mail".
10. Re-start Mail.app. Your old messages should be in your inbox and you should be able to send/receive mail.
That's it. That fixed it for 3 user accounts used in both of my parents' iMacs.
I cannot send/receive mail using tiger 10.4.11.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI did a fresh Leopard install onto a new HDD. I use the migration assistant to transfer my Tiger profile to a new account on the Leopard install. My default Leopard user account Mail app works for but the profile/user I migrated just will not work (mail). When I start Mail on the migrated profile I get nothing; no window except the File Menu Bar changes to "Mail". New Mail Window does nothing and I can't Quit the application..

I am a novice on the Mac (OS X 10.6). My mail icon is Gone! Don't ask. I went through the finder, nothing. Any other advice to locate it before I have to re-install my OS? If I have to do that, anything in particular I have to do / don't do?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm using Outlook 2011 and decided to change its dock icon. Everything works great, but each time when I receive an e-mail and thus the dock email notification appears, the icon will switch back to the original Outlook icon. Only after I've checked my e-mail will the icon switch back to my custom icon again.
Is there a way to retain my custom icon even upon receiving the e-mail notification on the dock icon?
I will like to change the stamp icon for Mail on the dock of my Imac with the icon for mail from the iphone dock.
Is there a way to do this?
When I log onto my MAIL icon it just bounces once and does not open. Same goes for Safari HOWEVER the Firefox, Excel, Word icons open. I have tried re-booting but no luck. As a back up I am using Entourage for my email but prefer to use MAIL, as well would like to use Safari again! What do I need to do to get these working again?

I am trying to foward an email to a group in my contact list, but now I have to add them by clicking the + one by one, or opening the contact app and selecting all and dragging them to the "to" part of the mail!
The downgrade in this doesn't make any sense!!

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have switched email for the first time in 15 years, to a new provider. I finally got MacMail configured and got that working with the new servers, etc. Weird thing is that on my MacBook Pro, on the dock where the mail icon is, it says I have 4 unread emails, which is the same thing it says in my Inbox. However, no matter what I've tried, I can't find those unread e-mails, and therefore can't open them. I tried clearing out old emails, rebuilding mail, etc. to no avail. I can and have got other emails and had no trouble opening them. My outgoing mail is fine. I'm using Safari if that makes any difference.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying out having my dock auto hide to have some extra space on the bottom of the screen. I like it but I am wondering if there is a way to get the mail app to bounce when a new email comes in the way other apps bounce when they need attention. I could not find it in the preferences but maybe I missed it somewhere.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to get the "mail" icon above the dotted line in the dock so it is available every time I start up ala iTunes/Finder/Safari/Preview?. As it is I have to launch it from the applications folder every time I restart the computer. This would be on my new MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard.
