OS X :: New Email Count In Mail Application Incorrect
Nov 21, 2008
I recently got a new iMac and restored it using a Time Machine drive to be identical to my old one. This has all gone pretty smoothly, but for some reason mail says that one of my accounts has five new e-mails, and another one has two. When I receive new e-mails these increment, and when I delete them they decrement, but they only ever go down to five and two.

Why the total number of e.mail in my inbox has disappeared from the top banner.
I have four accounts in my inbox and they each show the number of unread e.mails - however as per the attachment below - at the very top of my mail page was  Inbox (23 messages, 2 unread) -  now it just says InboxÂ
Is there any way to show the total again?Â

I'm using Mail (Lion) with my Gmail account. The current number of Flagged messages (the Starred messages in Gmail) is inaccurate. Messages that show up as unstarred in the Gmail web interface remain starred in the Mail app -- I've confirmed this with each message individually.Â
I should add that if I look up Flagged messages in the Smart Mailboxes list, I get an accurate count. I just don't see a correct count in Reminders > Flagged.Â
Apart from deleting my account and re-downloading everything, is there something I can do to make the Mail app perform correctly? I had been using Sparrow but I'm tired of that app's ridiculously slow start-up speed.Â

It has, in fact, gotten worse and I need to start the thread again. Earlier, I started up my computer and noticed that is was very slow to boot up, the Dock was missing and it was generally slow and unresponsive. Also, the machine would not shut down or restart unless I forced it to with the power button. Â
" Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode. Then move these files to the Desktop...Â
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
[code]....Â
Is this something very bad? I goggled "incorrect block count" and I see some other people have this issue even just today (though not exactly the same).Â

How can I use my Mac email address to receive mail through the MAIL application on my Mac?
Today it stopped accepting my @mac.com account but my other email accounts work fine.Â
I do NOT want to use a browsed to access my email when a program like MAIL or others will do it better and more reliably than through the Cloud.Â

I saved an email in Drafts a few days ago, and just sent it out recently. However, there was a problem during the sending. Several copies of the same email were sent to the recipient. After restarting my computer and the application a message keeps popping up stating: Some actions taken while the account "my acct name" was offline could not be completed online. Mail has undone actions on some messages so that you can redo the actions while online. Mail has saved other messages in mailbox "On My Mac" in "On My Mac" so that you can complete the actions while online.
Additional information: The connection to the server "imap.gmail.com" on port 993 timed out.
or The IMAP command "APPEND" (to Drafts) failed with server error: Could not parse command. Along with this message the same email shows up in my Drafts folders. I've deleted many copies of them, but they keep coming back the same way. I'd also like to mention that that particular email account is not getting mail for me, but the app is getting mail for my other emails. All accounts are online. I'm not sure what to do.

For some reason, soon after migrating from MobileMe to iCloud, the indicator showing how many unread messages I have disappeared. The strange thing is the count DOES show for my other email accounts (POP server accounts through Road Runner)....it's the IMAP iCloud email account that shows NO count indicator at all.Â
I have an iMac running the latest version of Lion.
The unread email count indicator DOES appear on my MacBookPro and my MacMini at work.....it's just the iMac at home that has this issue.Â
How do you make the unread email count reappear?Â

I realize this is probably not related to a iMAC alone but that is what I have and am experiencing problems using my email. After installing Safari 4 I began to have problems. I attempted to use my email and was prompted to provide my password. This is very unusual because I have not had to do that since I got the machine going about 5 months ago. So I type in my password or what I thought it should be and it comes back with incorrect password. I have made a half dozen attempts to locate the correct pop-up or panel that will allow me to change my password to see if this will work. No luck, arm's up in the air until I contact Apple on Thursday unless someone points this Old Man in the correct direction and I get things working tonight or when I return from work tomorrow.:

I purchased a new MacBook Pro 17" with OS X Lion (10.7.2) preinstalled back in January of this year (2012). I migrated my user accounts from my old MacBook Pro 15" (2008) running OS X Snow Leopard. Almost right away I started having issues of all sorts, including Admin accounts that wouldn't allow me admin priveledges, hidden user groups, apps that wouldn't run, multiple obscure error messages and a host of other issues. After scouring forums like this one I used Disk Utility and not only discovered innumerable permission errors but also disk errors like these:Â
Invalid volume file count
(It should be 1656658 instead of 1656636)
Invalid volume directory count
(It should be 345764 instead of 345743)
Invalid volume free block count
[code]....
And now, this morning, after a month or two of all that... and after installing the Java Security Upgrade last night, I can't get into my accounts at all. On first boot-up it hung for 20 minutes before I shut it down. After running Disk Utility from Recovery Drive and repairing the drive I rebooted and got the log-in screen. I clicked on my user icon, typed the correct password, was shown they white/grey screen for a few flickering seconds then was brought back to the log-in screen. I rebooted to the Recovery Disk, ran Disk Utility, saw all the same errors again, repaired the disk, rebooted and got the same problems with logging in again.Â
I've repeated this cycle five times today, as both a normal boot-up and in "Safe Mode" all with the same results. I've repaired the disk using Disk Utility from Recovery Disk as well as accessing the disk in Target Mode, and always there are the same errors needing to be repaired.Â
I don't buy that I'm dealing with a hardware issue. My antivirus and security software are all up-to-date. What the heck is going on? Why do I keep having these disk problems? Why can't I access my accounts anymore? Why does it keep hanging during boot-up? Why am I about to throw the machine out my bedroom window?

My wife's macbook pro started shutting down by itself randomly, so i performed Disk Utility Verify Disk and found these errors: Invalid volume file count(It should be 800651 instead of 800653)Invalid volume directory count(It should be 191005 instead of 191003)The volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired. Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed. As i do not have the Mac OS Leopard disks physically with me, I target-disk started her mac on my mac, and use my mac to run Disk Utility on her hard-disk, and repaired the disk without problems.Â
However, this is the 3rd or 4th time this has happened. After the 1st time, i figured something is causing it, so i checked this forum, and found that for some, the Blackberry Messenger app causes programs, so i promptly uninstalled it fully (including associated system files) and this problem didnt come back for a while. Or could this be a sign the hard disk is physically failing soon? It is out of warranty now. We have regular Time-machine backups. We are actually kinda waiting out until the new line of macbook pro's come out..

I'm using MacOSX and Mac Mail. The cub scouts send a weekly newsletter via Scouttrack. When I view this on the Mac, I cannot see any attachments; it's like they are not there at all. When I view it from Outlook on a PC, it doesn't show the little paper clip, but when I open the email, then I can see that the attachments are there.
Is there any way to get the mail application on the Mac to recognize that there are attachments in the email??

I am pulling my hair since friday trying to get my MBP's time machine work with a 1TB drive connected to a early 2009 AEBS. First I spent half a day doing the first backup by connecting the hard drive directly to Mac using USB and later when I connected that drive to AEBS, time machine would not recognize the drive as the same one and I had to spend a good part of yesterday backing up my complete drive again.... and just when I thought I can rest easy knowing that my eternal dream of getting time machine work wirelessly, I saw time machine complain that there is not enough free space left to backup my paltry 103 GB worth of data on just second day.
Turns out, the Time machine backup volume (volume created by time machine on the AEBS disk) shows that the used space is 1TB.... but the size of the sparsebundle is only 103GB and my airport drive mount itself shows plenty of free space (800GB).... I have tried to search for similar problem, but I couldn't find much help... can anyone help me out here....
Btw, when I tried to repair the volume in disk utility, it says something about incorrect allocation blocks and then says it cannot repair and I need to backup and reformat the drive or something of that sort....

The desktop icon for Mail shows I have unread mail. When I open mail, new messages appear to enter my Inbox. That is, Mail Activity shows a progress bar indicating 1, 2, 3 etc of 10 new messages are being brought into my Inbox. The unread mail tally increments but I cannot see any messages at all.

The red badges on top of the mail icon, as well as the oval dark grey badges next to mailboxes are only very rarely correct. For example, at this moment the "Flagged" mailbox has a badge with the number 4. Clicking on it reveals that there are actually only three mails in that mailbox, and that furthermore none is flagged. So it is doubly wrong. There are similar issues with the "recent" mailbox, and the Dock icon. It is very annoying to see an unread mail badge, and not being able to find any unread mails. I am mainly using IMAP mail; perhaps the problem does not occur with iCloud mail.Â
This problem first appeared in OSX Leopard(!) years ago, and I have seen it on at least six different computers, in all later versions of OSX, during many years. With every new version I am hoping that it is fixed, and with Yosemite once again I am disappointed. How hard can it be to count? Or is there perhaps something I can change to fix this problem once and for all?

Mail on my Pro suddenly says incorrect username and/or password. Resubmitting password does not help. Mail is fine on my iPad and Phone. I can also log into the mail's website with no issue. Until now mail has never been an issue on my Mac. I tried deleting and re-adding the account. Get the same message when it tries to verify the login during setup.

Just recently I have noticed that the number of emails that the count says is higher than I actually receive. For example it will say "1 of 21" but then I will only have 15 to read.
I have tried looking at the settings etc and even counting the Apple message section it still does not equate to the number it say are "incoming".

About an hour ago (have been trying to sort it since) I was in the middle of sending a couple of e-mails (been emailing a friend for about an hour, so was a sudden occurrence). And the messages don't send, wait in the outbox and an error message pops up JUST on my sky e-mail account, who are my ISP providers. They're claiming the port number and the outgoing mail server are incorrect/causing the error yet I have no touched the setting since the day I set the account up about 5months ago. The first line of the error says 'there may be a problem with the mail server or network' and then it goes on to mention the outgoing mail server and the port number (which is 995).

I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro running OS Lion (10.7.3) and in the last two weeks I face the following problem with the Mail application and my Yahoo mail account: although the account appears in the side bar of the application and it will search for new messages when I launch the Mail app, it doesn't load any messages and I also realised that all Mailboxes of the named account are blank! The messages appear normally when I reach my account through the Yahoo page! I tried to remove and re-import the account in the Mail app, but it just worked for two days and now the Mailboxes are blank again! I have no problems with the other two mail accounts I reach through the same application (both POP accounts).
