OS X V10.7 Lion :: Unread Email Count Missing From Dock?
Mar 31, 2012
For some reason, soon after migrating from MobileMe to iCloud, the indicator showing how many unread messages I have disappeared. The strange thing is the count DOES show for my other email accounts (POP server accounts through Road Runner)....it's the IMAP iCloud email account that shows NO count indicator at all.Â
I have an iMac running the latest version of Lion.
The unread email count indicator DOES appear on my MacBookPro and my MacMini at work.....it's just the iMac at home that has this issue.Â
How do you make the unread email count reappear?Â

when willing to change the .app original icon to a new design, all's fine until the app is launched. once the unread rss feed count is up in hte dock, the icon changes back to the original version.

Why the total number of e.mail in my inbox has disappeared from the top banner.
I have four accounts in my inbox and they each show the number of unread e.mails - however as per the attachment below - at the very top of my mail page was  Inbox (23 messages, 2 unread) -  now it just says InboxÂ
Is there any way to show the total again?Â

The desktop icon for Mail shows I have unread mail. When I open mail, new messages appear to enter my Inbox. That is, Mail Activity shows a progress bar indicating 1, 2, 3 etc of 10 new messages are being brought into my Inbox. The unread mail tally increments but I cannot see any messages at all.

Although the number of unread messages is properly shown under Inbox on the Mailboxes list next to two of my three Mail accounts, the other one shows none when there some. The quantity is also missing from the total number of messages next to Inbox when I collapse the list. This was working fine for many years.Â

I set up my gmail account in Mail and love it. My question is regarding the IMAP folders. In the attached image you'll see that one of the IMAP accounts has over 400 messages, but I only have 18 in my inbox itself.
Is there a way to hide or remove the unread message count from the IMAP folder in the drawer?

For some reason, my mail icon is no longer showing my badge icon displaying the number of unread emails I have. Within mail, next to my mailbox, it no longer shows the number of unread emails either even though there are clearly email messages with the blue dot indicating they're unread.

since the 10.7.4 update, I have the url shortcuts icon missing in my dock: When draging a new URL from safari to the dock, it's the same problem. The icon is invisible but there is a gap between the other icons and the name of the url's page is displayed when passing the cursor. This problem is only with URL shortcuts and no with jpg or pdf or mp3 or folder sortcuts etc.. I have already reboot the dock and make a disk permissions check and repair. Restarting my computer doesn't solve the problem. Safari Version 5.1.7 (7534.57.2)Â

I noticed the apple web page icon to be missing from the dock. You can still use the mouse and click on it with positive results. However, it is disconcerting to have the icon go missing with an OS update.

Hi! Is there any way I can get Apple Mail to show (and preferably update) the count on the badge while it's closed? The other option I thought of would be having Mail open on login, but hide -- If I did this, can I get the blue indicator to go away for this app only?

Using an iMac 2011 with Mavericks 10.9.4. Been having issues with the Mail client leaving mail that has been read in the 'unread' smart box. The account is an IMAP, and I have done the empty the whole thing and start over routine, and that works. However I don't want to keep having to do this over and over, since some of my boxes are large.Â
is there something that I need to do on the other end of the IMAP, since the email is on a domain I own, not gmail or yahoo.

I recently got a new iMac and restored it using a Time Machine drive to be identical to my old one. This has all gone pretty smoothly, but for some reason mail says that one of my accounts has five new e-mails, and another one has two. When I receive new e-mails these increment, and when I delete them they decrement, but they only ever go down to five and two.

This happens when I'm using something other than email or Word, for example, Excel or the internet. When I want to go back to my email, I will click on the email icon on the dock, but instead of popping up my email, one of my open Word docs will appear. Then I click on the email icon again, and the right thing comes up. Â
I've run software update and I'm not sure what else to do. It's making me nuts. Sometimes, I might be using Safari and have just taken a screen snap or copied a link and I want to flip over to my email to send it to someone or whatever, and it shows me a paper I'm writing for school or something instead. It's dumb but annoying. Â

I purchased a new MacBook Pro 17" with OS X Lion (10.7.2) preinstalled back in January of this year (2012). I migrated my user accounts from my old MacBook Pro 15" (2008) running OS X Snow Leopard. Almost right away I started having issues of all sorts, including Admin accounts that wouldn't allow me admin priveledges, hidden user groups, apps that wouldn't run, multiple obscure error messages and a host of other issues. After scouring forums like this one I used Disk Utility and not only discovered innumerable permission errors but also disk errors like these:Â
Invalid volume file count
(It should be 1656658 instead of 1656636)
Invalid volume directory count
(It should be 345764 instead of 345743)
Invalid volume free block count
[code]....
And now, this morning, after a month or two of all that... and after installing the Java Security Upgrade last night, I can't get into my accounts at all. On first boot-up it hung for 20 minutes before I shut it down. After running Disk Utility from Recovery Drive and repairing the drive I rebooted and got the log-in screen. I clicked on my user icon, typed the correct password, was shown they white/grey screen for a few flickering seconds then was brought back to the log-in screen. I rebooted to the Recovery Disk, ran Disk Utility, saw all the same errors again, repaired the disk, rebooted and got the same problems with logging in again.Â
I've repeated this cycle five times today, as both a normal boot-up and in "Safe Mode" all with the same results. I've repaired the disk using Disk Utility from Recovery Disk as well as accessing the disk in Target Mode, and always there are the same errors needing to be repaired.Â
I don't buy that I'm dealing with a hardware issue. My antivirus and security software are all up-to-date. What the heck is going on? Why do I keep having these disk problems? Why can't I access my accounts anymore? Why does it keep hanging during boot-up? Why am I about to throw the machine out my bedroom window?

My wife's macbook pro started shutting down by itself randomly, so i performed Disk Utility Verify Disk and found these errors: Invalid volume file count(It should be 800651 instead of 800653)Invalid volume directory count(It should be 191005 instead of 191003)The volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired. Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed. As i do not have the Mac OS Leopard disks physically with me, I target-disk started her mac on my mac, and use my mac to run Disk Utility on her hard-disk, and repaired the disk without problems.Â
However, this is the 3rd or 4th time this has happened. After the 1st time, i figured something is causing it, so i checked this forum, and found that for some, the Blackberry Messenger app causes programs, so i promptly uninstalled it fully (including associated system files) and this problem didnt come back for a while. Or could this be a sign the hard disk is physically failing soon? It is out of warranty now. We have regular Time-machine backups. We are actually kinda waiting out until the new line of macbook pro's come out..

Is it possible to restore it to it's original position on the right hand side of the dock? I've tried dragging & dropping from finder, but that doesn't seem to work for me. Making an alias doesn't seem to work either.

I'm new to the whole mac thing and got my first mac (an iMac) just 2 days ago. A whole new learning experience.
I've downloaded and am running uTorrent. uTorrent is showing in the dock, with the text and the small "light" underneath it to show the app is running. However there is no icon, just space. Also in the applications folder, there seems to be a standard icon ("There's no icon, so we'll use this standard icon for the application").
I've attached a screenshot of how it looks in the dock.
I know the uTorrent app has an icon, it was showed right when I downloaded the app and I haven't changed anything, but now it's gone. How do I get it back?

I shall explain my problem.
Um, a few weeks ago[2 wks to be exact], i went overseas. Upon coming back, I on-ed my imac and found something very weird. There were icons at the bottom of my screen appearing to be a '?'. At that point of time I didn't know how to make em appear normal, thus i moved em to the thrash. I tried to open it earlier when it was a "?" but it wun open. However, what I didn't know and which was a careless mistake, i moved my microsoft office[entourage, word, ppt, i moved em into one folder] into the thrash as it appeared to be a question mark. However, when i checked the thrash, i saw no such folder... How do i fix this?

After updating my OS X which brought Safari up to 5.1.7 the saved links I had in my dock are blank. Even though i can click in that area and the pages will load. I can't figure out how to fix this.   Also, when I drag a link from the address bar to the desktop the icon that appears is nothing more than a blank white page. Â

I cannot seem to have the number of unread messages in my mailbox appear to the right of the inbox label. It used to be there, and I have another account set up in Mail and the number appears next to it when there is an unread message. It's just this one account. Here is a picture of what it is like, even though there is an unread message in the mailbox.I want the number of unread messages to be next to Gmail on the right. Also, the number of unread messages for the Gmail account do not appear on the Dock icon. Both of these functions work with my other account that is set up in Mail, and that account is a Gmail as well.
