If I have a dialog box on screen with multiple options such as "Yes" and "No" and "No" is the default option selected (it's blue) but I want to select "Yes" without using my mouse how would I do that? Tapping the left and right arrow keys does not move the focus like it does in Windows.

I've been looking around for quite some time and cannot find a solution for my annoying problem: I cannot keep the 'Tab to move keyboard focus between: All controls' to stick. I am able to change the keyboard setting so that the Tab key changes keyboard focus through settings -> keyboard -> keyboard shortcuts -> full keyboard access and the simple control+F7 until I log out, reboot or power cycle. Â
I have reset all of my keyboard settings to default and I have gone so far as to create a new user with admin priviledges but the problem persists.
At some point recently (I don't recall precisely when) on two different computers under my control (both iMacs: work 10.6.8 and home 10.7.3) I now find that when I open Safari the new Safari window has no keyboard focus. I must tab twice to get keyboard focus on the address bar. However on a third machine I use (MacBook Air 10.7.3) when I open a new Safari window the keyboard focus is in the address bar (as I expect and as it has always been). I've poked around in the Preferences in Safari and System Preferences: Keyboard and Universal Access Keyboard but can't find any kind of setting that might control this behavior (lack of keyboard focus on new window).why this is occuring and how to restore keyboard focus to the address bar on opening a new Safari window?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just finished a seven month fiasco working with a refurbished 3.4 GHz i7 mid-2011 iMac, with the Radeon 6970 graphics card. I had originally purchased it to replace an early quad core 2008 Mac Pro. I had the iMac hot-rodded by the OWC folks to include a Mercury 480 GB SSD and eSATA port. That story involves multiple issues with failed components and a complete inability to install bootcamp, which was needed for work-related software that did not play well in a virtualized environment. So now, with the latest iMac hardware failure (Fire Wire port), I have thrown in the towel and will be going back to Mac Pro. (Takes deep breath.)The iMac is currently being used for work, my second job as a part time pro photographer (Photoshop, Aperture), some videography and transcoding and occasional gaming.I'm looking to hit performance marks for processing and video similar to the i7 and am willing to consider refurb or pre-owned machines. New 8 core Nehalem and 6 core Westmere machines are outside my budget. Definite upgrades I intend to add are:
a. 512 GB SSD as primary drive for OS X
b.256 GB SSD for my Bootcamp installation
c.12GB RAM
d. 2 Seagate Momentus XT 750 GB drives in RAID 0 configuration
So, my questions are
1.For real world performance, particularly with regards to my photography work and video, what core processor combinations (going back to 2008 or 2009 used machines could be considered) are likely to yield EFFECTIVE processing power close to the iMac i7? Among recent vintage machines, it seems that a quad core 2.8 GHz would be reasonably close, but I find it's difficult to translate Geekbench results into my needs.
2.I'm having a real hard time with my video card options. It seems that potential choices include the 5770, 5870 and 6970 cards.I'm not overly concerned about the price differences, but would like to find the best performance/value combination, given my needs.

Is there a way to move an application to another space in Spaces using a keyboard shortcut? For example if anyone is familiar with Compiz or Beryl you can use control+alt+shift+directional key to move an application to a new space without using the mouse or the mode where you can see all the spaces at ounce.

I was messing around with the desktop, and I moved the dock to the left side of the screen, and I selected to have it hidden. From there, I went about what I was doing, and when I went back to my document (a Bean document) the keyboard was not responsive at all. I logged out, logged in, and things were fine. I activated the dock again, and then the keyboard went out again.
I logged out, logged in, moved the dock to its original position, and now things are fine. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? I tried searching (not too thoroughly; this is kind of an urgent thing, and I didn't want the keyboard to go out on me again...), but I didn't see anything.
You know the pop-up window with the "ok" in blue, and the cancel on the left that can be activated with the 'esc' key? Im looking for a way to cycle on the keyboard to the option I want when multiple options are available (more than OK and Cancel) Is there a way to do this?

For example, when Finder asks me whether I want to open a downloaded file from the internet, and I want to say "No", I want to be able to press left and press enter and that'll be it. Instead, I have to use my mouse to click on No.
Is there a way to do this? I went to System Prefs, Keyboards, and clicked on All Controls, but that wasn't the solution.
I got my refurbed 2.4 unibody MB less than 2 weeks ago and just took it to the Apple Store because the very far right side of my spacebar stopped working, and I had a few slanted keys in various places on the keyboard too. The genius at the store told me they needed to replace the top case (metal chassis w/keyboard & trackpad built-in?) and it would take 3-5 days.Anybody else had problems with slanted keys OTHER than the function row? Anybody else had a top case replacement for this or other reasons?I'm nervous that I'm going to get my MB back and the new top case will be installed crooked or worse than the old one. Or the hard drive will be wiped and I'll have to re-install all my programs and iTunes/iPhoto libraries. I was loving the MB, with the spacebar failure being the only real problem... worried it's going to come back more messed up than it was. Am I just being paranoid?

Is there any way to safely remove the key and clean it?2nd: Bootcamp isn't working very well. After installing Windows XP without problems, the Leopard disk isn't working right. There are a variety of options that can be used when you boot the Mac, such as hold down the C key to boot from a CD/DVD, hold down the option key to choose the boot drive, etc. When you have a BT keyboard, it doesn't connect until it is booted. How do you get the iMac to recognize, say, the Option key?

View 10 Replies View RelatediTunes is playing and I hit the play/pause key (F8) the entire keyboard will go dark, but only if I'm pausing. it doesn't do it when I'm hitting the button to resume a song, only when I'm using it to pause one. the backlight sometimes takes minutes to come back on, at random, and sometimes it doesn't and I just have to turn it back on myself.

It just started doing it so I did a full virus scan and found nothing. It doesn't matter if I am in the middle of making a selection or typing in doc and it stops if I logout and login as root--but then I keep getting keychain dialogs.

My problem is that when I try and to rename files by hitting enter, the finder window refreshes and I lose focus of the file rename. When I load a photo from a thumbnail in iPhoto the photo loads a version that is slightly blurry, then after about 5-10 seconds it jumps into focus. I am using a 2006 24inch iMac and the graphics card only has 256k of memory.
Is the delay in focus a function of iPhoto or is it because I have an older graphics card? I'm asking because I want to buy a newer computer (probably a Mac Pro) and am wondering if a faster graphics card will speed up the photo loading.
I created my website with iWeb 1.1.2 & have had absolutely no issues with it from running Tiger right through to Snow Leopard (10.6.2) which I am running at present. However, in the past couple of days, I have noticed a few strange issues with a few of the images...they appear to be slightly out of focus...not only on photographs but also on parts of my website whereby I have added text & these are then saved as PNG files. I haven't changed any preferences whatsoever & everything appears as it should within iWeb itself.
The issue is only occurring once I have published to a folder. I've emptied the Cache in my Browser but the issue is still there. I've added a link below to an image which shows the problem I am having. The top & bottom appear as it should however the centre appears very soft. It doesn't appear like this within iWeb, only once I publish the files. [URL] Would it be worth deleting the preference file for iWeb, & then relaunching the application?

Say I'm viewing the contents of a folder containing a 1,000 files in list mode. I can "page" through the list and all the items scroll but the selected item doesn't change. I have to "mouse" to the item I want when it comes into view.
Is this by design?
