I was just wondering if anyone knows of a way to make Firefox focus the cursor in the address bar when you open the application. I have searched through the add-ons and can't seem to find anything.
View 2 Repliesafter upgrading to SL, I found that when opening Firefox 3.5.2 I have to click somewhere on the main window to bring focus to Firefox. anyone else have this issue and is there a fix? it does not do it with Safari. maybe a conspiracy?
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I attempt to open a pdf file in Firefox I get a dialog box asking me to "Open with" or "Save to Disk"? The problem is the "Open with" lists only an old app that I no longer have, and doesn't give me a choice to select which app to use. If I go ahead and click OK it opens in Preview which is fine, but why does the dialog box only show an old app that is no longer available? How this this info get filled in, and how can I fix this?

I've tried downloading and deleting it a couple of times, but the same things happens. The computer is 15" MBP, 2 GB from early 2009.

View 17 Replies View Relatedin firefox, if you type two words in the URL bar, it will pickup the site. For example, my firefox will list every url i've been to in order of popularity if type mac - (it will show macrumours, apple, 9to5mac, etc)
if i type mac on safari it will list all url's beginning with the word mac.
How do i get safari to behave like firefox? You can see the benefits of firefox as getting to a url you don't quite remember is easy.
we all know that iTunes is a worthless turd, but maybe someone can help me figure something out before I get to the point of chucking my brand new MacBook Pro through the window.
When I go to rename a track or artist in this awful, awful software it almost always kicks me out of the renaming process, and since I'm merrily typing long it takes me to the first song in the library that starts with whatever letter I just happened to press.
Example:
I'm typing in "Bob Sinclar". I get through Bob and the space OK, but then as I'm about to his the S it kicks me out of the renaming process, I hit S, and the iTurd takes me to, say the first State of Shock song in my library.
It does this every! damned! time!

It started about a week ago. I dunno if it's a problem with Flash or what. But any time I try to open a video on sites such as gizmodo, engadget, youtube, or full episodes from like [URL]. whichever browser I attempt to open it with just completely crashes. This has been getting worse and worse and now it literally happens 100% of the time.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling both browsers multiple times to no avail. I am REALLY dreading reinstalling my entire OS. Is there a way I can completely eliminate flash from my computer? Then I can manually download it from Adobe directly and see if that works.
I have a problem with Mozilla Firefox 3.04. Whenever I create a new bookmark, by any method, it replaces the address value with the an address that I visited in the recent past. And this address can change as time goes on, so the address value for the bookmark seems to be dynamic.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been having problems with my Safari and firefox. They both say they are up to date. When I use fire fox to look at Hotmail.com, it takes a while to load and when I try to open mail in new tabs, it opens a tab saying "javascript;;".
When I use safari to look at hotmail, it does an infinite loop and stays blank..the URL thingy just goes in loops. I mostly use fire fox, and some times when I go to type, I will get a 10 second delay before my text appears..
I'd switched to Firefox a year or two ago from Safari after some frustration with Safari's bugs...but since I'd updated to Firefox 3.0.7 it has become ridiculously slow. Here's a typical scenario: Opening Firefox is no problem. Google page appears in a jiffy. But as soon as I clear the address bar and attempt to type in a URL, the beachball comes and Firefox literally freezes for a few minutes, even making it hard for me to switch to any other app that's open. I attempt to type in a complete URL regardless, and it takes Firefox forever to receive the input. The only way I can describe it is like the computer was typing in super-slow motion.
On top of that, I can hear this intermittent "grind/whir" sound of the processor while it lags, I suppose struggling to process the input. BTW, if I clicked on any of the bookmarked pages in the bar beneath the addy bar, it goes directly to them w/o problem. It's only when I attempt to type anything in the address bar that the lag occurs. This has become a total frustration of mine, especially now that I'm doing web design and need Firefox's Firebug add-on to identify CSS elements on the fly in the midst of tight deadlines. In the meantime, Safari works, but it doesn't have that feature.
My address book flies up above the top of my screen when I open it. It will appear when I hit F3, but then it disappears again when I click on it to open the page.
I can move the application to different desktops, where I can see the very bottom of the window, but am unable to use the mouse to drag it down to where it can do me any good.
On a frustrating meter, it's probably a five-and-a-half, or six. It's been like this for several weeks, and I probably ought to get this figured out before too much longer.
My software all seems to be updated. I've force quit the application, rebooted the machine, and nothing seems to be giving me any satisfaction.

I got the phrase "Stealing Focus" from Opera- it has an option where no webpage can put it's tab to the front of your view over what you were doing. I've had iMovie doing stuff all night and when it's done generating thumbnails or rendering/exporting a movie it always jumps to it's Space. Even when I switch immediately back to what I was doing in another Space it sometimes does it. AARGH- it's just done it now! Can't I just rely on the iMovie icon doing it's Zebedee impression on the Dock and switch back when I'm done?

I was wondering does anyone know how I can use my right hand cmd button as a shortcut key for move focus to the dock. Someone did it for me, but I cannot seem to do it by going through system preferences and to keyboard shortcuts.
If I have a dialog box on screen with multiple options such as "Yes" and "No" and "No" is the default option selected (it's blue) but I want to select "Yes" without using my mouse how would I do that? Tapping the left and right arrow keys does not move the focus like it does in Windows.

It just started doing it so I did a full virus scan and found nothing. View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been looking around for quite some time and cannot find a solution for my annoying problem: I cannot keep the 'Tab to move keyboard focus between: All controls' to stick. I am able to change the keyboard setting so that the Tab key changes keyboard focus through settings -> keyboard -> keyboard shortcuts -> full keyboard access and the simple control+F7 until I log out, reboot or power cycle.
I have reset all of my keyboard settings to default and I have gone so far as to create a new user with admin priviledges but the problem persists.
At some point recently (I don't recall precisely when) on two different computers under my control (both iMacs: work 10.6.8 and home 10.7.3) I now find that when I open Safari the new Safari window has no keyboard focus. I must tab twice to get keyboard focus on the address bar. However on a third machine I use (MacBook Air 10.7.3) when I open a new Safari window the keyboard focus is in the address bar (as I expect and as it has always been). I've poked around in the Preferences in Safari and System Preferences: Keyboard and Universal Access Keyboard but can't find any kind of setting that might control this behavior (lack of keyboard focus on new window).why this is occuring and how to restore keyboard focus to the address bar on opening a new Safari window?

My problem is that when I try and to rename files by hitting enter, the finder window refreshes and I lose focus of the file rename. This seems to be happening when finder is refreshing the thumbnails for each file's icon.
How can I stop this very frustrating behavior. This doesn't happen when not using AFP.
