I have a microphone I like a lot, but it gets very low levels on my Mac via Line In (even when the input volume is turned up all the way). Is there some kind of audio input driver I could download to add more gain OS X allows (rather than the obvious hardware amp or something)?
View 1 Repliesi have recently bought a speedlink spes clip on microphone i plugged it into the 3.5mm jack on the side of my macbook air then i went into system preferences and clicked on sound. then output... but there wasn't anything showing where as if it was showing i would have been able to select my microphone output and not the actually macbook mic. but my new device plugged in isn't showing and i can't use it. i checked the packaging and it says system requirements mac.

I want to know if anyone can point out the advantages and disadvantages of using a line-in microphone (for the 1/8" analog jack) compared to a USB microphone for a Mac Pro. Do I need some kind of amplification for a head-set microphone with a 1/8 analog jack? I can't get mine to work, but I wonder if there's something I haven't selected correctly in my Preferences.

I recently attained a new client for IT support, and they have a xserve running Mac 10.4.11, for which the previous IT company supporting it did not give them the admin password. Also they don't have any restore discs of any kind. What I would like to do is wipe the server and upgrade to the newest version, because currently there are only two people touching the server, so now would be an optimal time to do the upgrade before it increases to more. But my main concern is getting access to the files of other users on the server so that I can copy them to an external hard drive, (i'm from the PC environment so essentially taking ownership of the files). What is the best way for me to do this in the Mac world?

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo the other day I booted up into OS X and was going to make a short video in Photo Booth with my friend. I recorded a video, but when I tried to play it back there was no sound. I tried recording another video, this time yelling at the top of my lungs. This time when I played it back, I could hear my yelling very faintly. I decided to open up the System Preferences to see if the microphone was picking up any sound. The input level showed that there was a little bit of static, but the bar barely moved when I yelled. I opened up Skype and called "echo123" to see if Skype was picking up and sound. After the call recorded my sound, it played it back and to my surprise it sounded perfect.
It was like my microphone didn't have a single problem. I then opened up Photo Booth again and the System Preferences to see if it would pick up and sound from my microphone. And once again it would only barely pick up sound when I was yelling. After a few minutes, I finally decided I'd take my MacBook to the Apple Store. But before that, I decided I'd just try a little trick that worked on my iPod earbuds when one of them wasn't working correctly. I flicked my finger against the plastic right next to where the microphone is above the screen. I opened up System Preferences and to my amazement my microphone was now working perfectly!
I can't get my new mac pro to recognise either a headset with a mic attached, or a standard PC microphone, both under Leopard and Bootcamp/Vista.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI opened up Photo Booth to record a video for YouTube today and realized that I had recorded my self for 7 minutes for almost no reason.
Photo Booth doesn't seem to be detecting my microphone at all, because when I play the clip i recorded, there is no sound. My speakers are on, trust me.
Also, other audio recording applications, such as Screenflow and Audacity are able to pick up the microphone easily.
I've ran the application with nothing else running and get the same result.
I'm thinking about buying a mic to record some vocals for some music.
I'll be using Logic or Garageband with my MacBook.
Could you recommend me a reasonably priced one.
Does an iBook G4 have a microphone? If so how do I get to it. I'm trying to see if mine has one to use for iLinc for an online class.

Mic doesn't seem to work at all. On Skype or on Sound Recorder that comes with Windows XP. I have done a lot of searches on the net and tried a lot of advice offered including some from this forum - reinstall driver, tick boxes, until boxes, scale up, etc. Its a 2008 iMac with XP SP3 installed on Snow Leopard. the driver is from Realtek. I have an important meeting to do on skype while having to run Windows application.

It plugs into the line-in part on my gf's MBP (the one next to the headphone port, right?), and i choose "Line-In" from the sound preference pane... but it's still using the internal mic when recording on garageband. I also remember trying to record with my guitar plugged into the comp, and that didn't work either.

It appears in the Sound menu in the control panel as a working audio input and sound recorder works perfectly as well. However, whenever I select the microphone in Skype, there is no sound. The mic comes up as a Cirrus Logic CS4206A(AB75) device. Again sound recorder is fine, its just Skype that won't get any input from the mic. I also tried this earlier in Windows 7 RC1 64 bit with no luck. Does anyone know how to use Skype in Boot Camp with the new MacBook Pro hardware?

I never had any issue with XP or Vista, and on S-Leopard it still working, so my question is -Have anyone here experienced any problem like this and is there a way out?
