does anyone know of good software to turn the internet off on a schedule? i am looking for something like 'time out,' but that actually shuts the internet off so you can work without procrastinating. i want software that will allow me to turn the internet off for, say, an hour, and not allow me to turn it back on no matter what.

Recently I have been having issues loading internet content. When I try to load almost any website, my internet browser acts like it is searching for my wireless router and can't find it. However, when I use my PSP to connect to the internet from the same spot, it works perfectly fine. The PSP usually says there is a 70% connection, which is better than it has ever been. My router and laptop are on the same floor only a room away.
I have other people in my house that share the router: 6 computers; 4 are laptops that are used more often than the 2 desktops, 4 iPod Touches; 2 of which are never used. I had everyone turn off Bluetooth on all devices since none of us use that feature and that didn't help all.
I honestly don't know what the problem is, but if I had to make a guess, it would be all of the things that our devices can connect to with AirPort. There is Motorola, 2WIRE017, 2WIRE160, 2WIRE417, 2WIRE730, MartinWirelessRouter, NorzWireless, NETGEAR, schooly, and stackdaddy. I think all of these wireless connections are disrupting one another, which is what I thought was causing the problem. The only one I ever care to connect to is Motorola, so is there a way to prevent my computer from even recognizing anything else?

What is the process used to direct certain IP addresses or a range of IP addresses to the second ethernet connection on a Mac Pro? I have a set of Mac Pros that use the first connection for internet access and corporate server connections using Samba. But the second ethernet connection is used for a lan between the Mac Pros and printers. It currently works but it take a bit for the "connect to servers" dialog to connect to a Mac Pro on the lan because I think it is searching Connection 1 first which has hundreds of Windows servers attached to it. And it takes several minutes to connect if our service has an interruption on Connection 1. All of the Mac Pros and printers are set up to use a manual IP address (192.168...) The Mac Pro workstations use Snow Leopard and we have a Mac Pro Server running Lion Server that we use to conntrol a network RAID.

I've recently discovered that while searching in Finder I am not getting any results of files that have underscores in their file names. For example, a photographer sent over hundreds of files that are named "IMG_1234.jpg." When I search in that folder for any files named "34", I get no results, even though I can see the file is right there. Files with names like "AC-1234.jpg" are fine and come up in the results right away.
What gives with the underscore? Is this a Mavericks thing? I've never had this issue before with Finder. Is there a setting I can change to include these file names in my search results?

I recently got a new iMac and backed up from Time Machine. Everything is fine apart from Apple Mail, which no longer searches my Gmail archive. The archive is still there, all 33,000 messages, but just not searchable.
So, for example, if I got an email from a guy called George a month ago, when I search 'George' nothing comes up. I can manually go to the Archive and find the email but obviously that takes a lot of time.
Is this an Apple issue or a Gmail issue? Given that I run the same account on my laptop and it's all working fine, plus it was working fine before, I would assume it;s an Apple fault.

When I search for a file in my computer (command + f) the results appear in a window. If I click on a FILE among the results, the detailed location of that file is shown at the bottom of the window. If I click on a FOLDER, however, no such location information appears. Before Mavericks, locations of folders was also given. Is this a Mavericks bug? Can it be fixed?

I recently updated to Mavericks. Now I'm getting an error message from syncing with my Yahoo! calendar. It keeps saying that Yahoo! won't accept the change. All I wanted to do was dismiss the message from my mac, not change anything on Yahoo! Very annoying.
Also, for the past few months, even before I upgraded to Mavericks, I've been noticing a problem with events that migrate between my cell phone and my computer. The cell phone is a Samsung Android. It purports to sync with my gmail calendar. ical also purports to sync with the gmail calendar. The appointments do migrate from calendar to another, but the messages don't. It doesn't do much good to have an appointment in my calendar if the program doesn't give me a message warning me of the event.
Yes, unfortunately, I have both Yahoo! and gmail calendars.

The problem suddenly popped up today: I wanted to send a message and suddenly got notification that Mail app is unable to send the message using Yahoo server, which I noticed being listed as offline. I clicked on "check connection" and it showed Gmail IMAP and IMAP as well as Yahoo IMAP being connected while Yahoo SMTP not.
On the right side of Yahoo SMTP Red "dot" there was the instruction, which recommended to check settings of the network connection as well as to make sure if the server supports SSL, and if "NO" - deselect it. I'm not as tech savvy so the marked part is just the Chinese language for me: what is SSL, how to check if the server supports it etc?

I just got a referbrished macbook pro retina and I'm having issues connecting to the internet. My old macbook pro, as well as every single other device, is able to connect to the internet without issue. My new macbook, however, isn't able to. Everything is typed in correctly as it is connecting to the router. Just no internet. However, there is one strange difference between my old macbook and my new macbook. The old one has a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 while the new one has 255.255.0.0. The old one also has router information under the subnet mask, while the new one is blank.

I read many messages about the (automatic) Internet Account sort that is done every time something is edited in the accounts list.I have followed the advice I found but with different results. But these methods, for me, do not "solve" my problem: when I have all my accounts in the right order, if I have to change something again, the sort is automatically done.
it's possible to disable the sort of the Internet Accounts? If not, could be a good feature in the next OS upgrades.

I cannot connect to Internet via my MBP (late 2013) through my Airport Extreme. It will connect to the AE fine, but the Airport Utility will show that the AE is not connected to the internet. Which is a lie, because other devices (iOS, Windows) will connect to internet through the same AE. working on the MBP under Bootcamp. So we can also rule out hardware issues with the WiFi chipset. This must be a MacOS (Mavericks) related issue.

I am using a MacBook Air 11" (mid-2012) running OS X Mavericks (10.9.3). I'm connecting to my home LAN via WiFi connection to a TP-Link 300M Wireless router that is setup as a switch (per instructions here [URL] ...., which in turn is connected via wire (ethernet-over-power) to a Technicolor cable modem/router provided by my ISP (UPC in the Netherlands; I can look up the model number of the router if needed, but it's two floors down right now and doesn't strike me that this is the cause of the problem).
I have a problem that my MacBook Air intermittently loses connectivity to the internet for extended periods (minutes) even though (a) the MacBook Air maintains full connectivity to my LAN at the same time through WiFi and (b) other computers connected to the cable modem/router maintain their connection to the internet while my MacBook Air has lost its connection.
My test to see where the breakdown is occurring is to have four terminal windows up and running ping processes:
1) ping to 192.168.0.1 (my router) - this always stays live, with essentially no lost packets
2) ping to an external address (I'm using 74.125.136.94, a google.nl address) - this is my main test for access to the internet and where I see ping failures (I'm also testing with pings to other sites when the problem is occurring to ensure it's not something on the remote end).
3) ping to 192.168.0.13, which is a Synology NAS attached via ethernet cable to my main cable modem/router - this always stays live, with essentially no lost packets.
4) a login to the Synology NAS, where I am also running a continual ping to 74.125.136.94, and this external ping does NOT fail when the one from my MacBook Air does, it stays live with essentially no lost packets.
The problem will usually correct itself after 1-3 minutes (though the time is not consistent), and also gets corrected if I turn the MacBook Air's WiFi off and on again.

Almost daily, I will be in the middle of browsing the internet and pages will just stop loading. Following this, any already-opened application I click on will freeze, including Finder. If I try to open any new applications, the icon will bounce over and over in the Dock but never open. If I close my web browser and try to reopen it, it tells me that there is already a copy of the browser running and I cannot open another one. The only way to remedy this I have found is to hold down the power button and shut off the computer. Once I turn the computer back on, everything runs normally. I originally though it may have been my web browser (Google Chrome) so I recently switched to Firefox, and the problem still persists. It is extremely annoying.

Upgraded to Mavericks recently and now my sent emails show my internet account number not my name. My provider (Bell) says it's a Mac issue, and as the emails send perfectly from their BellMail site it does point to being an Apple issue. Full name details are shown correctly in Mail Preferences, but any email I send only has the account number in the 'From'.

In the last week, I have been using daily ±5GB of data. Usually I used ± 500MB. When I use Netflix, I understand that my usage can increased dramtically, but when I don't, how can I explain my usage ? My ISP tells me that he cannot give me any clue, because my usage is confidential.
What can I do about that ? Can I install a software to check this and to be sure that nobody else is using my internet connection ?

I cannot be 100% sure but it seems like my problem started when I installed Apple TV and started home sharing. When my Mac goes to sleep and I start it up the internet is disconnected. I check in the settings and the network shows a signal and connected. I do not get emails and I cannot connect to the internet though. I have to restart my computer then everything is back on. I cannot stand quitting all my work to restart my computer so many times a day.
