I have these weird highlights on tagged (or previously tagged) files and folders on my Mac, regardless if it's on a desktop or within another folder.
A few days ago, I started being unable to move files from one folder to another in Finder or on my Desktop, using a drag and drop motion. I can move the files if I copy and paste them from one folder to the next, but that is incredibly laborious. I have not changed any of my user settings lately, so why this is happening all of a sudden.

I have a Mac Mini running OSX 10.9.3/Server 3.1.2 and a MacBook Pro with OSX 10.9.1. Recently I have noticed that files I create on the laptop are being automatically deleted. I have literally watched them disappear while I watch. The entire folder contents seem to be stuck at a point in time about 8 days ago. If I restore a file or subfolder from the trash, it disappears again within a few minutes.
The account in question is a mobile account. I have set HomeSync to sync manually, so I don't think that is the problem. There are no other folder sync (rsync, etc.) daemons running that I am aware of. TimeMachine is set up on the laptop but the remote disk is full and I need to start a new back up set (or get a bigger disk.)

I'm a new MAC user. Why can't I save files to sub-folders under Documents? Also why do I have to provide my password every time I update or move a file?
View 14 Replies View Relatedi cannot click on any of the files in the finder area for certain folders.*just upgraded from mountain lion to mavericks...i've also noticed that the icons in 'icon views' have disappeared too...here in a different folder, everything works fine....and the icons appear under 'icon views'.
View 4 Replies View RelatedReplacing labels with tags is not at all useful particularly for the large market segment of over 50's audience. Those small coloured dots do not work for me distinguish events in my different calendars. Can MAC please bring back labels so that we ca see all our appointments as it was below.

I was working on curriculum changes for an online ecollege course. Stepped away for dinner and left machine on (MacBook Pro, running OSX 10.9.4). Have done this frequently and the light show screen saver appears, so I tap it to give my password and it returns to where I left off. But, last night, I returned and the connection to the college/university server had been cut and now Safari is taking me back through security and cookie changes I already made. When I tried to shut down the system under the Apple menu, I got an error box indicting that if I shut down all my files would be deleted. When I tried again, it informed me that I was logged in as a guest user and shutting down would result in the permanent deletion of my files. So, I let the damned thing run and it's still running because when I looked up, all folders and files had disappeared from my desktop -- even some of the applications (like Word) had also disappeared. I want my files back and I want to shut this down safely.

I am operating an iMac with OS X 10.9.4. I have a glitch common to other Mac users in the game "War Thunder" as a result of a game update. The game maker has suggested a fix which requires going into the game folders and deleting the cache:

However, when I go into finder the War Thunder launcher contents folder shows only the folders MacOS and Resources. Each contains one file. I'm trying to move emails from the "On My Mac" section from one mac to my new one. I've successfully transferred the folders from ~/Library/Mail and they show up, but the folders are empty when I open the mail application on my new mac the folders are empty.

I am aware and have been using the "command+drag" in order to select different texts in different areas; however, I am now unable to do so. When I hold down the command button, and drag over different texts in different places, the highlight instantly disappears. I am only thus, able to highlight one portion of texts at one time.

I can't figure out how to highlight and move multiple files from my local hard drive to an external drive. Is this simply not possible with Apple's OS? Seems too ridiculous for that to be the case. I can move individual files by Command+dragging the file, but it won't let me do that with multiple files.
I can move the parent folder, with the contents, but that's not what I want to do, since I only want some of the files within it. What I've been doing so far is highlighting and copying the multiple files and then deleting the originals afterwards. But this is a major time waster for me. This must be possible, how could they make an OS that doesn't allow this?
I have 4 drives on my mac pro and tons of folders, some with sub folders. I need a searchable listing of all folders and sub folders to consolidate, re-organize, etc. I don't mind buying a utility but would like something that can do all of the above and either let me search and organize the list or let me dump it into Excel.

I bought over a Mac Book Pro from a friend. I can't update iPhoto and other apps as it seems like these are tagged to the previous owner's account. It basically requires me to sign in to my fren's account which is absurb! Because iphoto comes with mac isn't it?

I bought a Seagate Free Agent Go Flex External drive. I transferred all my files from my previous external HD. When I went to access my folders on my external HD, the folders are all locked, with Sharing and Permission section in the Information "Everyone: Read" only! I can't change any of the information or move things! All of them are locked and "read only." I know how to change it, but only manually, individually. I have several hundreds of folders and I don't want to manually change all of them to "Read & Write." Is their a way to let me re-set the folders to "Read & Write" easily??

Has anyone found a way to automatically find all the pictures in the library that are missing location information? I have tried creating a smart album to accomplish this with no success. This is the condition that I am using:
PLACE is {{0, 0}, {0, 0}}
Although there are some pictures in my library that haven't been tagged, the result of the query is zero (no pictures).
Does anyone know how to create a smart album that detects pictures that are not geo-tagged?
Since some couple of months, i can't open some folders on my macbook air and pro anymore. when I try to open some folders, than every icon disappears, and I am at the some place I was before. The folders exist, because when I try to open some files from the search bar, it works, but I can search the files into the folder!

I am having trouble figuring out how to create folders to keep various documents in that I have saved in Pages, Keynote, etc. For instance I would love to have a place where I have a clients name as the master folder, and then have whatever I create for that client- whether it be a pdf, document, or presentation- in that master folder with their name on it. I know that "Finder" is supposed to assist me with this but I can't figure out how to create these master folders in Finder.

Some days ago I lost all of my 15 GB folders and files that stored in my Macbook Pro hard drive called DATA. I brought my Macbook pro to an experienced computer tecnicians who providing data recovery services. To his and my suprise, after checking, scanning it a few hours, he said their is no way to recover because he did not find any trails at all. The computer still seems working properly - I have no problem with any applications. There are few other folders in the DATA hard disk containing pictures, computer programs still remain. These lost folders and files contain mainly documents (word, excel, power point, pdf etc) which I accumulated in my many years working !!!!. I did not make a back up since last September partly because I think Mac is very safe.

So i've just started using Mac and i've downloaded a few tunes into the downloads folder and then moved them to music. I cant remember what the file names were so can no longer find them. I'm new to mac. Used migration assistant to transfer my data files and folders from windows 7 system. The files are there as I can search for a specific file and find it but I don't see any of the folders or files in finder. I have reviewed other forum entries asking questions like this and answers seem to direct folks to another user account but I don't have another user account on this system after migrating.
