Aug 28, 2009I bought a Seagate Free Agent Go Flex External drive. I transferred all my files from my previous external HD. When I went to access my folders on my external HD, the folders are all locked, with Sharing and Permission section in the Information "Everyone: Read" only! I can't change any of the information or move things! All of them are locked and "read only." I know how to change it, but only manually, individually. I have several hundreds of folders and I don't want to manually change all of them to "Read & Write." Is their a way to let me re-set the folders to "Read & Write" easily??

Aug 26, 2009I have five different excel files on the dock (they appear below the line, along with the trash icon). When I click on them a question mark appears on top of the excel symbol, and "help" says this means they have been deleted. None of them were saved anywhere but on the dock. But I have not opened three of them for weeks, and cannot find any of them with "finder". I always save when prompted before closing the Excel application, and would never knowingly delete them, as they represent hundreds of hours of work.
I'm on a Mac mini, with OS X 10.4.11

Jul 12, 2010I deleted a bunch of MP3 files from my hard disc, but they will not disappear from my iPhone and iPod, even after synchronizing. I think I know why: I deleted the MP3s from my hard disc but not from my iTunes Library. I don't want all the hassle of figuring out which songs I deleted and deleting them from my iTunes Library, I just want them to disappear from the iPhone/iPod and free up the space.
I am thinking of deleting ALL the songs on my iPhone/iPod and then syncing it again. Is there an easier way?

Jan 27, 2009All the documents, files and icons displayed on my desktop keep disappearing and then reappearing whenever I do anything - though especially when I save or update something, create a new folder or rename a document/file. Sometimes they don't reappear at all and I am forced to restart the system.
I use a Mac Mini Power PC G4 (1.2) with OS X 10.4.11 and I have an external hard drive which I use to save most of my files and documents onto.

Feb 3, 2012I am having trouble figuring out how to create folders to keep various documents in that I have saved in Pages, Keynote, etc. For instance I would love to have a place where I have a clients name as the master folder, and then have whatever I create for that client- whether it be a pdf, document, or presentation- in that master folder with their name on it. I know that "Finder" is supposed to assist me with this but I can't figure out how to create these master folders in Finder.

Mar 12, 2012Some days ago I lost all of my 15 GB folders and files that stored in my Macbook Pro hard drive called DATA. I brought my Macbook pro to an experienced computer tecnicians who providing data recovery services. To his and my suprise, after checking, scanning it a few hours, he said their is no way to recover because he did not find any trails at all. The computer still seems working properly - I have no problem with any applications. There are few other folders in the DATA hard disk containing pictures, computer programs still remain. These lost folders and files contain mainly documents (word, excel, power point, pdf etc) which I accumulated in my many years working !!!!. I did not make a back up since last September partly because I think Mac is very safe.

Sep 8, 2014A few days ago, I started being unable to move files from one folder to another in Finder or on my Desktop, using a drag and drop motion. I can move the files if I copy and paste them from one folder to the next, but that is incredibly laborious. I have not changed any of my user settings lately, so why this is happening all of a sudden.

OS X :: How To Cut / Paste Files & Folders In OS X
Feb 28, 2006I am a OS X newbie after using Windows for almost 15 years. One thing I am having trouble figuring out is how to cut & paste files and folders similar to what can be done in a Windows environment (i.e. cut using Ctrl-X, paste using Ctrl-v).
An example is if I want to move files from my hard drive to a flashdrive...is there way to cut and paste (i.e. move) the files? My current method is to just drag the files the new destination (which copies them) and then drag the files from the old location to the trash bin....
When I look at the 'edit' menu in Finder, the 'cut' and 'paste' options are grayed out which makes me think they are unavailable.
OS X :: Checking Files And Folders?
Jun 19, 2008So I have this weird occurrence when I open a Finder window and view files on one of my Mac Pro's internal harddrives.
A bunch of the Files and Folders have a Date Created of Dec 31, 1903 8:00PM.
The Date Modified is correct.
It's not every file/folder either. Mostly contained in one directory I have with client files in it.
I have:
- Reset PRAM
- Reset SMC
- Verified Permissions, Disks
- Deleted Finder's plist
So far, still happening.
Anyone have a clue as to what to check next?
I'm trying to figure out when this happened.....only noticed it today.
Could it have anything to do with sharing files from an XP machine.
OS X :: Protecting Folders And Files?
Feb 21, 2009The Mac is now used by all family members and even some visitors. I'm aware of the guest and separate account capability but this is time consuming to jump in and out of. This also prohibits access to the general iTunes library and photos of one user etc etc. Is there a way to simply protect certain folders within one user account eg I have a folder in the main account with each of the families names. Mine contains all my work, My wifes all hers etc etc. 2nd question E Mail. I have all the e mail coming into two seperate e mail addresses on the main ser account eg My Mail and my wifes mail to two mac addresses. Is there a way to simply password protect these without too much difficulty.

Nov 17, 2009As I mature further, the information I take in tends to get higher and higher. Passwords, usernames, information, etc etc. I've created a .numbers document with a lot of my usernames and passwords for various websites / any information I need. This file has no lock on it, so if anyone would be able to get into my computer, they would be able to get that file with a little perseverance or a little spotlight search. I've tried going to "get info" on the file and tinkering with different options there with no luck. I've googled it, and the only (somewhat) promising thing that came up was to use Disk Utility and create a disk image. It states that is best for transferring through a flash drive. Since I am updating this almost weekly, I do not think that is the best solution. Is there a program, or a setting which would enable me to set a password on a file(s) or folder(s)?

Dec 3, 2009My Macbook has been much slower than usual lately, and today it just stopped creating files. When I try and open Skype, it tells me it cannot create the users file, when i try to open itunes, it tells me it cannot create the itunes folder.
I have repaired the disk permissions and verified the disk. Verification came back okay. I'm now at a loss as for what to do. I can't download any new files (it tells me that I'm out of disk space, while I have 50 gb's free), so downloading anything to fix the problem won't work.
