I have an iMac 21.5 inch, mid 2010
Processor: 3.06 Ghz Intel core i3
Memory: 4 GB 13333 MHz DDR3
Graphics: ATi Radeon HD 4670 356 MB
Software: OS X 10.9.4 (13E28)
I had a window pop up that read, "Your system has run out of application memory" when I had sever al word documents open and Safari open & Gmail open.
I also do not know what deamons are, nor have I been able to use "time machine" to back up anything on my computer.
Here is what the Etresoft report told me:

Shortly after updating:
Safari (to 7.0.6)
Java (to version 7 update 67)
Pages (5.2.2, which has "An error has occurred" note in the purchases section of my App Store application)
Keynote (6.2.2)
Numbers (also has "An error has occurred" note in the "Purchases section" of my App Store application, and while it shows "installed" in same section, Numbers does not appear on the recently updated list in the "Updates" section)
and iMovie (10.0.5)
I also recall an Adobe update occurring (Macromedia?).
I began experiencing slow wake-from-sleep behavior. More recently, I have been getting "out of application memory" dialogs upon waking from sleep. There have also been a couple instances where the computer would not wake and had to be restarted. At one point, without having gotten the "out of application memory" dialog, I did note that virtual memory had ballooned to over 14 GB. That stayed like that until I logged out and logged back in.
This behavior seems to be specific to a user account (did not repeat when logged in as admin for one overnight test, but haven't tried an all day admin login).
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling BOINC, as well as removing an Adobe Resource Synchronizer app from the user login items (given the recent Adobe update, and having read that said item could cause trouble).
So, I'm not sure how to proceed beyond offering the reports below:

I just bought a early 2009 MAC Pro and it came with 3GB of RAM, I ordered 3 2GB sticks of memory to replace the 3 1GB sticks that I had in there from Kingston. I turned off the unit, I popped the little levers and pulled the memory out of slot 1, 2, 3 and then replaced the memory with the new Kingston in slot 1, 2, 3
One of the sticks in is not working at all and I get the RED LED light no matter what slot I move that chip to. So I am running on 2 of the new Kingston memory chips.
Can I mix the memory and add the 1GB into slot 3 and 4 with slot 1 and 2 full of 2GB chips?
Also how to I run the memory utility again? I went to /system/Library/CoreServices/ and then I see the program Memory Slot Utility.app
How do I run this? I'm used to no spaces and I type ./then program name

I have a 13" MacBook Pro Unibody with 2gb of ram in it. I am waiting on my 4gb to come in the mail and I am going to replace it tomorrow. Currently I am dual booting into Windows 7 with VMWare and it only has 512mb allocated to it. Is there anyway I can reallocate a different amount of RAM to Win 7 without doing a full reformat?

MBP Penryn Late 2008 2GB RAM 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. I'm getting the following popup from time to time: Your Mac OS X startup disk has no more space available for application memory. Then, it pauses the app that uses the most memory (Safari) and shows a window where I can pause and resume applications, or force quit. Strange thing is, I still have 4GB left on my HD, and my memory bar is only 2/3 filled.

I have had terrible problems with my Mac Mini. Apple has replaced the hard drive twice, the SATA cable once and the optical drive once in the first year I've had it. After the latest installation of Lion, I have had repeated problems with the error "Your Mac OS x startup disk has no more space available for application memory." This is false -- I have less than half of my 500 GB in use and 4 GB of wired memory.
I believe that Safari is always running when I get this error. Also, I cannot cleanly quit Safari -- I always must force quit, b/c it hangs when I quit. The last time I got this message, Safari was using 1.26 GB of memory.
My System Memory report is all out of whack:
VM size: 221.25 GB
Page ins: 1.59 GB
Page outs: 40.15 GB
Swap used: 59 GB
This is after only 1 or 2 days of uptime. I have just a couple of weeks left on my Apple Care and am desperate to know if this is hardware problem requiring my 5th trip to the Genius Bar or if this some kind of software problem that I can fix.
On this latest Lion install, I did a clean install with no settings or applications, and I killed extensions on Safari.

Everytime i click on a new window i seem to lose about a mb of memory, i don't know whether its a virus, or an application gathering disc space or something else, but it's really annoying and i keep on having to delete stuff to free up new space,

When I click on the red cross button of Safari to stop it, the window vanishes. But the application remains in memory, so when I click again Safari shows up immediately. This is the normal behavior, iPhoto doesn't. I mean the lightening dot under the icon in the dock disappears. So is there a way to have iPhoto behave like Safari? I upgraded memory of my MBP and there is space enough to keep iPhoto and others in memory.

My MacBook air keeps slowing down and giving me the error message "Your system has run out of application memory". I end up having to force quit all applications and reboot, which fixes the problem for 10 - 15 minutes and then it starts over again.
I am on the road for work and won't be able to get to an Apple store until next week, but this is creating a gigantic headache for me. I found a bunch of threads on this same topic for Snow Leapord, but nothing pertaining to Yosemite.

I brought a 13" Macbook air late 2013 model in December last year. It has 4GB Ram and a 120GB Storage.I have a 160GB portable hard-drive which I store all my files on (Music, pictures etc) so this leads me to this question. Why do I keep getting the error message "Run out of application memory".That message pops up when I use Chrome (Only program running!!!!!!!!!! other than Finder) even if I have one page open??
It's also popped up before when no programs are running and causes the MacBook to freeze up resulting in me having to turn it off via the power button. I have run Disk utility and there appears to be no issues? I Googled the error message and all it brought was up people having problems with the calendar application which I do not use nor is it running?

I have gotten this message a few times now. in a small pop-up window. I have however lots of free space. Over 1 TB on both my internal drive and on my backup.
Have checked for software updates. I don't have any antivirus programs or other such stuff. It happens when I have Final Cut Pro X open. Also happened when I was using Aperture. In other words no third party programs.

I've got two interfaces, in this order:
1. Wi-Fi connection to Apple time capsule that links to the internet - 10.0.1.9
2. LAN connection to ISP that links to the internet - 10.0.2.250
This works perfectly well, however, I would like to rout traffic through the second link, not just have it as a fail-over.
So, I use the route command, like this: route -n add -host 197.242.144.171 10.0.2.250route -n add -host 197.242.144.175 10.0.2.250route -n add -host 173.194.41.182 10.0.2.250
This doesn't give any errors and a netstat -nr shows
197.242.144.171 10.0.2.250 UGHS 0 1 en0197.242.144.175 10.0.2.250 UGHS 0 0 en0173.194.41.182 10.0.2.250 UGHS 0 12 en0
If, though, I try trace route, this is what I get: traceroute 197.242.144.175traceroute to 197.242.144.175 (197.242.144.175), 64 hops max, 52 byte packetstraceroute: sendto: Cannot allocate memory1 traceroute: wrote 197.242.144.175 52 chars, ret=-1
It looks as if, somehow, the route command is corrupting the normal routin

Some of my automatic logins that the mac remembers are incorrect and my issue is that when updated, are somehow not retained in the autologin. This means the feature is often useless and causes ultra frustration as I rely on it heavily.
How do I reset the disfunctional logins, or will I have to clear them all and start over, gah? It does not happen on all of them

Or how can I at least set it to ask me before it opens itsself?
I occasionally click links such as "contact us" in websites that I expect to take me to something that shows an email address, but instead they automatically make my mail application open up, and that's just annoying as ****.
I know I can command+click to copy the email address. I don't need this alternate solution/not really a solution to this problem.
Preferences in the application is unavailable, I assume until I choose an account to add as it prompts me to do upon opening.
So how can I make it so that mail never opens just because I click an address?
