View 1 RepliesI have gotten this message a few times now. in a small pop-up window. I have however lots of free space. Over 1 TB on both my internal drive and on my backup.
Have checked for software updates. I don't have any antivirus programs or other such stuff. It happens when I have Final Cut Pro X open. Also happened when I was using Aperture. In other words no third party programs.

I have an iMac, early 2009 OS X 10.9.4. Up until a few months ago I didn't have a problem with my memory card reader. The computer no longer detects the memory card reader. There is no indication by the computer that the memory card read has been plugged in. I bought a new memory card reader (different brand). The computer does not detect the new memory card reader. I have tried rebooting the computer. That did not make a difference. I tried unplugging all the USB devices plugged into the computer. That did not work

I have a iMac late 2009 with 12GB ram, 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 duo, 322GB free space and OS X 10.9.3.
My problem is that I often have to reboot my machine because the machine "is out of software memory".
I have 193 GB of my 249 GB memory being used by 'other'..What on earth is in here and how can I remove it ? I know its anything outside of pictures, music etc but its massive and making my machine so slow
Im on a late 2009 macbook running OS X 10.9.2 (13C64)..I've tried running Omni and this useful to a point , I can't locate anything that is so high though that would be using all this memory up.
I'm using Safari Version 7.0.4 (9537.76.4) with Mavericks on MacBook Pro 13" late 2011. Has 4 GB RAM. The problem is Safari consume 787 MB of ram with ONLY 1 tab open! "Facebook"..When I clean my ram with memory cleaner, it goes down to 300 MB, 5 secs or less and it goes up again.

I've got two interfaces, in this order:
1. Wi-Fi connection to Apple time capsule that links to the internet - 10.0.1.9
2. LAN connection to ISP that links to the internet - 10.0.2.250
This works perfectly well, however, I would like to rout traffic through the second link, not just have it as a fail-over.
So, I use the route command, like this: route -n add -host 197.242.144.171 10.0.2.250route -n add -host 197.242.144.175 10.0.2.250route -n add -host 173.194.41.182 10.0.2.250
This doesn't give any errors and a netstat -nr shows
197.242.144.171 10.0.2.250 UGHS 0 1 en0197.242.144.175 10.0.2.250 UGHS 0 0 en0173.194.41.182 10.0.2.250 UGHS 0 12 en0
If, though, I try trace route, this is what I get: traceroute 197.242.144.175traceroute to 197.242.144.175 (197.242.144.175), 64 hops max, 52 byte packetstraceroute: sendto: Cannot allocate memory1 traceroute: wrote 197.242.144.175 52 chars, ret=-1
It looks as if, somehow, the route command is corrupting the normal routin
Shortly after updating:
Safari (to 7.0.6)
Java (to version 7 update 67)
Pages (5.2.2, which has "An error has occurred" note in the purchases section of my App Store application)
Keynote (6.2.2)
Numbers (also has "An error has occurred" note in the "Purchases section" of my App Store application, and while it shows "installed" in same section, Numbers does not appear on the recently updated list in the "Updates" section)
and iMovie (10.0.5)
I also recall an Adobe update occurring (Macromedia?).
I began experiencing slow wake-from-sleep behavior. More recently, I have been getting "out of application memory" dialogs upon waking from sleep. There have also been a couple instances where the computer would not wake and had to be restarted. At one point, without having gotten the "out of application memory" dialog, I did note that virtual memory had ballooned to over 14 GB. That stayed like that until I logged out and logged back in.
This behavior seems to be specific to a user account (did not repeat when logged in as admin for one overnight test, but haven't tried an all day admin login).
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling BOINC, as well as removing an Adobe Resource Synchronizer app from the user login items (given the recent Adobe update, and having read that said item could cause trouble).
So, I'm not sure how to proceed beyond offering the reports below:

I have a brand new iMac, that often displays an error stating the mac is out of memory. The mac has 16GB of memory and usually the only software used is Office products and Safari. I noticed that the machine would run out of memory when the mac is doing its index. I can usully see this happening in the spotlight. Below is a screen shot of the activity monitor.

I don't know what the deal is. I'm trying to install 2 sticks of 2GB into my 7,1 iMac, and the screw just won't turn. I'm using a standard Phillips head, and nothin' doin'. The screw is now starting to strip, so I guess I'm going to have to take this into the friggin' Apple Store just to have them open the thing.
how do you remove back up data from the memory storage? my storage data states that i have over 80gb of data used for back ups and i dont know why as i use a external hard drive as a time machine .now my 250gb flash storage is nearly full..

Some of my automatic logins that the mac remembers are incorrect and my issue is that when updated, are somehow not retained in the autologin. This means the feature is often useless and causes ultra frustration as I rely on it heavily.
How do I reset the disfunctional logins, or will I have to clear them all and start over, gah? It does not happen on all of them

View 4 Replies View RelatedCurious as I want to match the speed and pre-order another 4gb of ram (2x2gb) and didn't know what speed they went with?
I assume its as easy as the old iMac's as far as a screw underneath the screen and snap them in?
Also just curious about if their was a brand name on the memory they used - not that it matters just curious?
I ordered base 4gb ram and I am guessing its 2x2gb and I here it has 4 slots so I will buy another 2x2.
I have an 40 GB SSD installed on my 2010 iMac 27" with a 2TB HDD hosting the users folder. I was running Transmission and encoding a DVD when I was told that I am out of Virtual Memory and must restart.
My question is: will using the SSD for Virtual Memory affect its performance down the line (as they should not be written to too much.) If so, how can I change my virtual memory storage location? *Xupport didn't work.
While browsing around I've stumbled over a few references to things like "tri-channel memory" and such. From what I understand (not that good with these things) some computer architectures / CPUs are optimized for using 3 memory modules, and some for using pairs (2 or 4).
I just read some benchmark tests of the i7 with different memory configurations, and the 12Gb was is most cases on par or better than all the others when it came to performance, even better than the 16Gb one. Is the new iMac (i7) best suited to use 3 memory modules?
Can I add memory to my iMac?
View 4 Replies View RelatedHow should I go about adding more memory to my 2008 iMac? I currently have 1gb and I would like to upgrade to 4-6gb, depending on the price. I've heard OWC is pretty good all around, but it appears to be that they're only compatible up to 2007 imacs, so I'm assuming that wouldn't work for my computer. What's a good, reliable, and cost-efficient brand that will be compatible for the computer I have? and how would I install it?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am finally upgrading to an iMac and I need some help. I was looking at the 21in ones and I have a choice of processors 3.06 Ghz and the 3.2 Ghz (and even the i5 3.6 Ghz). Should I pay the extra $300 and move from the 3.06 Ghz to the 3.2? For this computer, I will be doing photo stuff and some video. Family things - nothing for work or commercial use. Or should I opt for more memory instead and not worry about the processor. From studing Apple, processor choice seems to help keep the machine current (or pertinent) longer than anything else.
The low level iMac seems ok, but should I bump up to the next level machine.
Im looking to purchase a 4GB stick of ram for my Late 2009 27 iMac 3.06Ghz. I know it requires PC-3-8500 204-Pin DDR3-1066MHZ Small -- does anyone know of a good place online (or otherwise) that sells this for cheap? I DID find one online site, that would sell is for $77.30 USD... and that doesnt include any DUTY fee's if any would apply.
View 3 Replies View RelatedOk i just want to make triple sure that this ram will indeed work in my imac 20" 2.0 (late 07 model) which uses ddr2 pc5300 667 200 pin ram.
The only thing that is striking me odd is that this is the only ram on neweggs site that seems to be compatible with an iMac that doesn't actually show up under their Apple > Mac Memory category
My iMac is from 2008, the first 3.06GHz version one (with Nvidia 8800 gfx card etc). When I got this one, I read somewhere that this was the first iMac to get the bus speed 1066MHz. When I look under information, it confirms this: "Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz". I instantly upgraded the memory to 4 GB from a local computer shop back then. When I look in the information, under memory I have: "Type: "Speed: 800 MHz"". Do I have too slow memory for the computer? I mean it runs fine and everything but I'm just wondering if I could potentially have faster memory in this computer. Would it make a big difference if this was the case? When looking in computer stores I can't really find memory that has the label SO-DIMM DDR2 - 1066MHz, so maybe I have the right one?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 10yr old G3 iMac, running X.3.9 and Classic, have 192mb memory and 105GB free space on HD. My question is what is the latest OS version I can install. I know I will need to add more memory but thats not a problem. Machine runs good, sometime slow with a lot of beachballs but dosen't freeze up or crash. Need newer OS so I can download some files I want and plan to get into the 21 century early next year with a new machine, if they release a new generation of the iMac or come out with a notebook with a numerical keyboard. Of course depending on the price of the software I may just bite the bullet and hold on to what I have till spring.

View 2 Replies View RelatedJust ordered a 24" 3.06 GHz refurb from Apple with 4Gb RAM - 700 off. It clearly states on the product info page that it can take up to 8Gb RAM. I visited Crucuial, and using their Memory Wizard thingy, selecting this machine it says that 4Gb is the limit. Who's right? Also, not sure how many slots there are in this machine. If I want 8 Gb am I going to have to ditch the 2 x 2 Gb to buy 2 x 4Gb??
View 3 Replies View RelatedHow many memory slots are in the 3.06 27 incher, and how many slots are taking up on the basic setup? If there are four slots, are all four slots filled with 1gb cards? Im curious because I ordered my iMac from my job here, and I also ordered 2gb of memory, thinking I can go from 4gb to 6gb of ram. I was going to order a 4gb card, but it was 200 euros at my job. If anything, I will order a couple of more 2gb cards, but that all depends on the number of slots available/open.
