View 4 RepliesIf I bought the cheapest iMac at base model right now, in a month or two could I buy more RAM for it? Then could I later buy a better video/graphics card and get that put in And could I have these things done by official Apple peoples. Not that I care much - I'd just like to know if official people do this.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhat would show more immediate quality of graphics and faster on-line refresher rates, a graphics card with more ram or double the memory? Im debating whether to get the 512mb ATI Card or an additional 4 gig or Memory with my new iMac.does Apple not offer the really high end ATI Cards with 1 gig of ram?
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy 3 yr old IMac G5 (no isight) seems to be real sluggish in graphics dept. I never used to have problems watching hulu videos, now they stutter. When I play warcraft, the game struggles to keep up if I'm in an area where there is lots of players. Would a new graphics card help? Is it replaceable on my IMac model?
View 7 Replies View RelatedIm having my first ever problem with a Mac, bummer! I have tried Googling an answer, but didn't find anything specific enough for my situation.Last night I installed the SL Graphics Update, hoping to be able to run Starcraft 2 on a higher setting.
Anyways, I installed it, and now the computer wont boot. It is stuck on the gray screen with the spinning symbol. It appears to be installing the software update, since it shows a gray progress bar, but then once that finishes, it just stays on the gray screen with the spinning symbol and goes nowhere after that.
I have a Macbook Pro available to use, if I need to target the disk. Not sure how to do that though, just found that idea in my google search.
I have no problem just being able to grab my important data off of it, and starting on a fresh install. I just dont want to lose my huge library of pictures and music.
I have an 06/07 model 24" iMac - I believe it was the only one of that make that had an internal PCI express slot...currently with an nvidia 7600GT in it.
If I were to get dirty with some screwdrivers, would it be possible to upgrade my graphics card to something compatible with MacSteam? (Nvidia 8 series+)
Has anyone ran some tests with the new Snow Leopard Graphics Update Apple just released. I am primarily interested in the performance increases it offers SC2. I am at work and will not be able to install it until late tonight, after which I will post before and after FPS and settings for SC2.

I did a software update last night and the firmware update attempted to install. Unfortunately, it errors out with the message:
Necesary resources are missing, corrupt, or do not have the correct permissions. Delete the iMac Graphics Firmware Update and re-download it and run again.
I have a 10yr old G3 iMac, running X.3.9 and Classic, have 192mb memory and 105GB free space on HD. My question is what is the latest OS version I can install. I know I will need to add more memory but thats not a problem. Machine runs good, sometime slow with a lot of beachballs but dosen't freeze up or crash. Need newer OS so I can download some files I want and plan to get into the 21 century early next year with a new machine, if they release a new generation of the iMac or come out with a notebook with a numerical keyboard. Of course depending on the price of the software I may just bite the bullet and hold on to what I have till spring.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe base model has 1gb ram and 128 shared with graphics card, the premium (!) model has 2gb of ram and 256 ram shared with same graphics card. Does anyone know definitively if a base model with 2gb ram will then use 256 ram?
View 24 Replies View RelatedI am considering buying a Macbook Air (June 2012 13" with i7-3667U CPU and the 4000 HD on-chip GPU) as it fits most my requirements. I occasionally like to play games and it seems that this graphics processor should be enough, but the question is how much memory can it use from the main memory and if the maximum amount can be changed.
More specifially I am loking at the requirements of ANNO 2070 (as this is the kind of game I really like) and even though it has been known to perform ok with that GPU, the minimum requirements would be 512MB of video ram (on low or medium settings). The previous MBA was only able to use ~350MB of the main memory if I understand correctly.
1. What is the limit of memory the GPU can use form the main memory?
2. Is it user configurable under OSX?
3. Is it user configurable under Windows when bootcamping?
4. Is it "somehow" (unsupported software-only method) configurable?
5. Is the game ANNO 2070 playable under Windows (AFAIK using bootcamp is the only way to play it currently) on a new (June 2012) MBA?

Is it possible to upgrade the graphics memory on the new 27" iMACs? They give the option of 1 or 2 GB of memory but is that one of those soldered in components or can memory be added after the purchase?

I have a year old MacBook Pro with an Nvidea GeForce 8600M GT card.
I recently bought Unity but it turns out the Nvidea GeForce 8600M GT graphics card isn't fully supported because of a memory leak which is a problem with the drivers.
Unity Support have told me to update my drivers. I understood Mac drivers were always built in to the OS and no drivers were available from Nvidea but I see they now have one Mac driver for another card.
What is the actual state of affairs with this graphics card does anyone know? There have been a lot of reports of faulty ones and now this.
This is a just about year old top of the range MacBook Pro and it doesn't support graphics??
My graphics drivers more precisely. I have NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, but i cant find this card on the Nvidia driver site. The closest thing i can find is GeForce 9M. Can someone tell me how i can update my driver?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIm guessing that updating my graphics drivers via OSX dosen't do anything for the Windows side.
Do I run the apple software update in bootcamp? Or do I actually go to the nvidia site and download/install them?
Also, what is the best driver right now for gaming performance in Windows?
I know this is probably in the wrong section but the windows and gaming sections don't get much love.
So my brother gave me his old iMac G3, and I want to know, is there a way to update the graphics thing on this computer so I can do atleast SOME gaming? If so, please tell how!
View 7 Replies View RelatedFor a while, my MacbookPro, which is a MacBookPro5,3, has been telling me that I have updates. Among the updates was a graphics update. Back when my iMac5,1 ran Leopard, I blindly got the graphics update, so it is no longer usable, unless I use Ubuntu Hardy on it. I do not want to run into that issue again, since I have programs that I need on my Mac for me to be productive, as I started writing books and publishing them through Lulu (e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.). Is the Snow Leopard graphics update going to cause stability issues, like the Leopard graphics update did on my old iMac5,1? Right now, I am getting all updates, except for the graphics update, that are available for my MacBook Pro.
View 2 Replies View RelatedLast night I installed Leopard's Graphic Update. I can't boot my macbook since then. Stuck at the gray screen with apple logo. Here's what I already tried to do: Boot with leopard DVD and run Repair Disk - it tells me the disk appears to be ok. If I click on repair permissions tough, it takes a long time and then hangs. Nothing happens, the progress bar even stops spinning.
I then tried to boot with Disk Warrior 4.0 (it's the version I have). I tried reparing disk and files permissions there, and it worked ok. But I can't boot after it as well. Again in Disk Warrior, I tried clicking REBUILD to get my file directory back and retrieve my files, but after some seconds it states there is not enough memory. I hope this is RAM memory, because I just ordered a pair of ram chips, Im gonna upgrade it to 2gb (I only have 512mb ram, first gen intel macbook core duo)
So tried SAFE MODE (shift), nothing. Single user mode, typing fcsk -y , reports the disk is ok, but nothing as well. I have a time machine backup from 11 days ago (apple makes it so easy to backup and I cant even bother plugging in my lacie firewire external hd, retarded me), and for me that's kind of unnaceptable. I go to university and thats 2 weeks worth of priceless annotations, I really need to get them back.
I have Leopard 10.5.4 installed and would like to update my graphics with the new patch. I'm getting this message when I try to install: You cannot install Leopard Graphics Update on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update.
My system is as follows:
1.8ghz PowerPC G5 (Single Core)
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200
Mac OS X 10.5.4
I got my early 2008 2.8 Octo mainly for photoshop and photo editing. I added 8gb ram and a couple of 1TB hd's.
Now I want to do some video editing in Final Cut Pro in the near future. Is my stock 2600 card good enough or should I get a better card?
What's the likelihood that Apple could update the 13" Pro with a more powerful discrete graphics card like the 9800 GT or 260M GTX? That would enough for me to buy the 13" MBP!

View 6 Replies View RelatedApple on Tuesday released Snow Leopard Graphics Update, a patch for Mac OS X 10.6 that is said to improve performance and reliability of popular titles like StarCraft II and Portal. The 69.2MB update was released by Apple Tuesday afternoon. It is available from the company's support site, or via Software Update. It requires Mac OS X 10.6.4. According to Apple, the software update contains performance and stability fixes for graphics applications, including fixes that: address frame rate issues occurring in Portal and Team Fortress 2 on certain Macs resolve an issue that could cause aperture 3 or StarCraft II to unexpectedly quit or become unresponsive.
The update addresses framerate issues on the titles Portal and Team Fortress 2 for the late 2009 and mid 2010 iMac and Mac mini; early 2009 Mac Pro; early 2009 and mid 2010 MacBook; and mid-2010 MacBook Pro 15- and 17-inch models. The update also resolves an image corruption issue that may occur when disconnecting and reconnecting external displays while the system is running. Valve, the maker of Portal, Team Fortress 2 and the Steam gaming client for Mac, said in June that it was working with Apple to improve the performance of games running in Mac OS X. The company said that improved drivers from Apple would have the greatest impact on performance. "We are making a lot of progress identifying specific issues that need work inside the game and inside OpenGL and drivers," Rob Barris of Valve said at the time. "Apple, ATI and Nvidia are all involved."[ View this article at AppleInsider.com ]
I have been reading that several people are seeing much cooler temperatures on their Mac notebooks and they think it's due to better graphics drivers with the update to 10.6.3. I however thought about the huge performance hit in OpenGL going from Leopard to Snow Leopard (probably same thing). So I decided to check my OpenGL results after installing 10.6.3. However, I didn't check my xBench results before upgrading to 10.6.3. I went and found an old result which shows 67 points for "OpenGL Graphics Test." My new result for "OpenGL Graphics Test" is 111 points. When I check the xBench archives, people with rev "C" MBA's with 10.6.2 all show OpenGL Graphics Test scores in the 60s.
If this is correct, we could all have some big improvements that really show huge effects on the MBA. It should help everyone running Snow Leopard. It should lead to graphics performance gains and lower heat due to graphics demands. Could someone else running 10.6.2 on a 2.13 GHz CPU MBA run an xBench test before the 10.6.3 upgrade? Then upgrade to 10.6.3 and run another xBench test. Then please report back here with your results for OpenGL Graphics Test and hope this result is great for all of us. I believe this would be a big improvement for the original MBA too?
Just noticed the Snow Leopard Graphics Update, anyone install it yet/found noticeable improvements (can't install it until I get back home in a week)? Hopefully no problems for people with flashed graphics cards? I would like this update to let me run SC2 in Mac OS X; it's so much faster in Win 7...

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a late-2010 MacBook Pro running Bootcamp 4.0 with Windows 7 64-bit. My graphics card is the nVidia GeForce 320m. I looked online recently and found that there was an update available for my graphics card (previously I had the one that comes with bootcamp, which is from 2009 I believe--quite outdated you see). So I installed it, hoping for better DX11 support, etc... It installed fine, but now my display is stuck on 100% brightness, when before I could adjust it with the F1 and F2 keys. When I try using the keys it shows the Apple popup with the slider moving, but the brightness doesn't change. I went into Control Panel > Power Settings and tried adjusting it from there, with no luck. The nVidia Control Panel doesn't have any satisfactory controls to do this either. It must be, of course, that the driver update changed things, but I'm not sure how to rectify the situation. I uninstalled the Apple Driver-Display from Control Panel and then re-installed from the Bootcamp files, but it didn't help. I've heard some talk about Apple Cinema Display, but I'm not sure if that's the same thing as the Display and whether I should be looking for a driver for it.

Apparently, Apple is seeding updated Graphics drivers .
Can any of our GPU gurus hazard a guess at whether these will benefit those of us with flashed cards, or will they more likely brick them, or do we just not know until we test them?
I don't want to get my hopes up for improvements that might never happen!
