This must be new with SL but it is annoying me to no end... I like my laptop to require password after sleep, but NOT after the screen dims... I do NOT use a screensaver so I don't understand what is going on... any tips? I put the screen to sleep after 15 minutes and each time that happens, I have to enter my password to get back in.

I've been having a annoying issue with the require password window that comes up after sleep. I used to just hit a key on the keyboard, the MBP would wake up and immediately I could enter my password. Now, the password window appears, I start typing but then the window disappears and then re-appears while I'm typing, forcing me to select the password I had started writing and re-type it.

Sometimes when I let my MBP (see sig) go to sleep with the screen open, I come back and hit the spacebar to wake it up and it doesn't give me the password dialog box to wake it from sleep. All i see is a black screen with the mouse pointer on it. This sometimes happens when I wake and DO get the password box but if I wait and don't enter the password right away, the box disappears and wont come back. In both cases I'm forced to push the power button to shut it down and restart. Any solutions to this, or is it just a fluke?

I'm not entirely sure how long my iMac has been doing this, maybe two weeks? When I try to wake it from sleep, the screen does not turn on. At all. At first I thought this was because my mouse and keyboard might not be functioning correctly, naturally the only remedy was to turn the computer off with the power button and to restart it (which took an abnormally long time). Today I remote connected with Back to my Mac screen sharing and it did not turn on either. I know it was awake because when I pressed the brightness buttons on the keyboard, it responded on my MBA's view of the screen. Normally, Back to my Mac does turn the screen back on. Anyone else have the same problem? It doesn't seem to matter WHEN it goes to sleep either. I've tried resetting the PRAM already and no dice.

my mbp i7's double tap doesn't save when i set it to a certain "double-click speed" so when i put my mbp to sleep or restart it, i'm forced to go back to the settings and set my double-click speed again. The point of me doing this is because for some reason, my double-click doesnt register or hi-light the text in the URL or text in essays etc. when its set up to the fourth notch on the slide bar. so i have to put it down to 0 on the bar in order for my double tap to register. Its really annoying to have to redo this every time i come back to my mbp.

Just about 45 mins ago, my touchpad started acting oddly after awaking my MacBook Pro from sleep. The cursor wont move when using the touchpad (sometimes it will nudge the cursor) and swiping isn't working either - but right and left clicking still seem to work using the touchpad - and it randomly right-clicks on things. I can use a wireless mouse and the keyboard is fine. It just started doing this, never had problems with it before. I've rebooted, zapped the PRAM, checked the touchpad settings, etc.

Occasionally after waking from sleep, there's no response when I try to use the left button on the mouse, or the equivalent on the trackpad. Everything else seems normal. The cursor moves OK, and the right button actions do still work.

After I upgraded my macbook pro mid 2012 to OS Mavericks, when I shut the lid, it sometimes won't go to sleep. I don't realise it until I take it out to use it again. When open the lid, the screen will be black and won't light up like it would if it had gone to sleep, the light that usually blinks when the computer is on sleep mode is continually on - not blinking, my computer would be hot and I can hear the fan. I've ended up having to force shut the computer down way too many times. After I switch on my computer again, I would find my battery drained as though I had been using it while it should have been asleep.Â
It hasn't happened when I go into the Apple menu and select 'sleep', but then again, I hardly ever do that. having to force shut it down too often, as there are other problems that have arisen after OS Mavericks update that also need force shutting down, and apparently force shutting down computers is bad for the RAM.Â

I've been loving every minute of my new 17" i7 MBP except for one thing. After waking my computer from sleep, the Firefox browser doesn't work correctly. I can see the window, with all my tabs, but nothing is clickable except for the menus at the top. I have to restart the browser in order to get it to work. It's not the biggest pain in the arse, but I'd like to pop open the computer and start browsing instantly. Any thought as to what may be causing this or what I can do to fix it?

So, this afternoon everything was fine until a few hours ago when the internet connection inexplicably started giving problems. Before that, I was just browsing on the web. I never messed with any network configurations.
I own an iMac 27" (Mac OS X version: 10.6.3) that keeps asking for a WEP password. I write it down but the only thing I get is a "Connection timeout" message.
I'm using a SMC router (ADSL 2 Barricade G) by the way. I understand WEP isn't the best choice, but the tecnhician said it was the only way to make all three computers have internet access. With WPA, the two Windows laptops had problems conecting. I changed the client to "No WEP/ No WAP" and every computer can connect to the internet. However, this isn't the desired solution for obvious reasons.
On the Mac, I removed the old network settings. I tried the $ (and 0x) trick but it didn't work. I also removed the old network passewords from the Keychain. I know the WEP password is right, because I used it on both Windows machines when I changed the client type back to WEP Only.
Since the SMC router doesn't display the WEP password, I'll download some password recovery software to find it out. I doubt this will work, but I'm running out of options. I'm not a tech guy.

I recently upgraded my OS with the free installation for Yosemite. When trying installing Yosemite my Macbook Pro running Mavericks asked me for the user password, which I provided.Yosemite installed fine, no problems.Â
Now, however, I am needing to install some software on my Macbook Pro after installing Yosemite. Like before, it asked me for my password, but this time it came back as incorrect. I tried several more times and it's still registering as incorrect.
I followed the directions shown here: OS X Yosemite: Reset a login passwordÂ
However, I can't follow the instructions past step 4:
4. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Users & Groups.
5. Log in to your account....
When I click on Users & Groups, I don't see anything that allows me to log in to my account (I'm assuming it's because I'm already logged into it?). I only see options to Change the Password, open the Contacts Card, Login Options, and change Parental Controls. When I select "Change the Password", it asks me to enter the old password, which I can't do for obvious reasons.
So what can I do to recover my existing password?

My apple user name and password haven't been changed at all for a long time. I have used it to access icloud and the itunes and everything. But suddenly the password doesn't work 'on my mac.'Â However it still works fine when I access icloud.com from my same computer.Â
But when I try to "manage my account" from system preferences (icloud), it doesn't work. And also, when I access the itunes store from my same computer it doesn't work. There are no error messages-- when I type in the password and press return it just reverts to the same page in which the password field is empty.Â

My MacBook Pro 13" (Mid 2010) doesn't go to sleep, when I close the lid or when I try to activate sleep under the Apple menu. I haven't changed nothing in the system preferences. I already tried the following:Â unplugged all USB devices plugged and unplugged external display closed all applications (except of Finder of course) resetted all energy saving preferences deactivated bluetooth checked share options (everything is deactivated)Â
Then I unplugged it from the power supply and after I closed the lid, it went to sleep. Then plugged in power supply again and sleep didn't work.

I'm in the process of updating our server from 10.4 to 10.6.5. And I've noticed a very disturbing problem. First, I don't need a lecture on enabling the root account. I have a strong password and appropriate security measures in place (both physical and configuration wise), and I understand the risks.
Under 10.4, I was able to set the Security Preferences of the root account to "Require Password Immediately After Screen Saver Begins". Worked just fine and dandy. Under 10.6.5, when logged in as root, this option seems to be ignored. I have run a repair permissions, verify disk and both report no problems. It also seems to ignore the "Log out after XX minutes of inactivity" as well.

1) If my MacBook Pro is fully changed and I plan to put it to sleep mode, do I still need to let AC adapter plug in?2) Let the computer to sleep or turn off is better when I don't use it?3) What's the normal "Fully Changed Capacity"? Because I saw it changed from time to time when I check in "Apple system profiler"?

Today Dashboard is not working.  I click on the Dashboard icon in the Dock.  The application does not respond. I click and hold the Dashboard icon in the Dock and get the balloon. I click on "Show Dashboard." Dashboard does not activate. I go into the Application folder on my hard drive and double-click the Dashboard icon. Still no action.Â
This problem started this morning, after I turned on the computer for the day. I have never had any trouble with Dashboard before.

I opened up AdiumX today and found that the connection to AIM through my @mac.com email account has a login issue. Now, when I opened Messages it stated that if you want to continue using .mac or .me address for AIM then you need to upgrade to 10.7.3.Now I am on Maverick, so I guess that is fine, but I still get the error through Adium.Â
