On some of my Macs, the Finder shows Bonjour/SMB/Windows servers (see screenshot below)
But on others, they're missing. How to get them to show up?

I have two MBPs.
Both used to sync some apps nicely, using Bonjour to see each other.
Nothing has been changed in settings or home network that I can recall, and yet one machine now no longer shows up under Shared, hence I can't sync the machine.
I've disabled the firewall on the machine in question.
I checked also that Bonjour was running using:
sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist
I also ran Bonjour Browser on both machines and neither reports seeing the "bad" machine.
Any ideas why one machine no longer shows up under Bonjour?
I'm using Finder to search for files on a server connected to my computer at work. The search results I am getting do not include all the files that meet my search criteria. For example, I am looking through photo files for any files with "34" in the name. Some files show up, but not all of them. See screenshot. I am searching in the "Branded Photoshoot" folder, and I am getting some results (Branded Photoshoot/Hilton Universal/IMG_1434), but another file that is in folder, though a different subfolder, (Branded Photoshoot/Architectural Center/IMG_1534) is NOT showing up. What is causing that subfolder and its files to not be included in the search results?

My blue 1TB external WD Passport Drive (whose name is Ralph and who holds all kinds of precious things that I love and can't lose) isn't showing up on my Finder screen. Whenever I connect him, his light turns up and blinks as usual, but I can't access anything on him. I don't even get an error message when I disconnect him without ejecting. I've tried using different USB ports and different cables, but it's not working. I've also tried connecting him to different computers (3 different macs and 1 Windows 8 PC), but NOTHING.
I've been trying everything the past few days to get him to work. He shows up on Disk Utility occasionally. I've tried verifying and repairing him through Disk Utility, but it says that the verification could not be completed, or that it can't repair him. It tells me to back up as many files as I can and then restore him, but I can't access the files to back them up in the first place. Also, the partition name seems to have changed to 'disk1s3', which appears greyed out on the Disk Utility screen.
In regards to mount point, it says that the disk isn't mounted. I tried mounting it by right-clicking it on Disk Utility, but the mount failed. I tried restoring him onto another 1TB WD drive (Oscar), but that failed too.
Do you know how to reset the Shared servers list without disconnecting from the network?

I just installed Lion on a machine that I use daily. One of the routine things I do is connect to FTP servers and search their contents to then collect files and process them. I was unpleasantly surprised when I found that I was simply unable to search the FTP server, it simply doesn't bring back any results.
I tried on 2 other Lion Macs and both have the same symtoms, one of the other 2 macs is brand new out of the box (3 days old) I had to downgrade to Snow Leopard to return the machine to a useable state.
Is Apple aware of this issue, is there a workaround? I prefer to not install 3rd party FTP apps. In fact, I tried Transmit and it too would not search but I assure you that the host of FTP servers I login in to are just fine as any other PC or Mac (10.6 or inferior) work without any problem.
Has Apple changed something? PS the mac I tried it on was even cleanly installed, nothing but Apple SW and fully up-to-date.
Does Apple publish detailed instructions on how to share my second computer (Air) by using Bonjour?

I have several iMac machines and MacBook Pros that were upgraded to Mavericks. Since the upgrade they are unable to connect to a file share simply by clicking on the server in a Finder window and then clicking on the "Connect As..." button. (As I understand it, this is the Bonjour service.) This has worked in the past and works on machines running 10.8.x
I am able to connect to the very same file share if I use "Connect to Server" and type in the afp:// address.
Nothing has changed in the network that I'm aware of.
I'm running mail (Version 7.3 (1878.2)). For some reason that I cannot fathom, imap accounts stopped working on June 10 or so.
I can fix this by setting the imap server to the ip address of the server, rather than its name.
I can confirm that the name is properly resolved to the address in terminal.
I'm using my own imap cyrus imap server

I upgraded my MacBook Pro quad core 2.5 from Lion to Mavericks. Since then I get a LOT of beachballs when I'm using Finder. I repaired permissions, deleted com.apple.finder.plist (twice) and finally reinstalled Mavericks over the first one. Still painfully slow and lots of beachballs.

I'm finally experiencing the first official problem with my MacBook Pro of 2.5 years. The Finder shows too many Places! Like it has double of everything: 2 Desktops, Applications, Documents, Movies, etc. There's a screen shot in here as an attachment if it helps.

When I select a finder window the Menu Options are not showing in the top menu bar. I am getting the menu options from the last selected window.
My primary HD (Macintosh HD), which has all of my System, Application, Library, etc files on it...doesn't show up in Finder any more, or...I should say...as of tonight. It's there when I do a search. I can open it and all the files appear to be intact. All of my applications seem to running normally (except for Lightwave 3D, which can't find the softward key that's stored in the library file). I can install software to the Macintosh HD as well.
It's just now showing up in the finder.

New user here, I'm showing "your-w92*******" I blanked out the rest, with a little monitor icon under "SHARED" in my finder? Any clue as to what it is and how I can get rid of it? If I right click I only get Open or Get Info as options. If I click Open I get "Connection Failed". If I click on Get Info it displays "PC Server" under kind. I did try to get my MBP to print in my PCs HP printer (unsucessfully) using cups. So I don't know if that had anything to do with it. I'd just like to delete it but don't know how.

I even tried replacing the drive with a brand new one, still nothing showing in finder.
This started happening a few days ago...I thought my Hard drive was dying or something, but disk utility says its fine.

i copied a user folder from my old windows machine it was a ntfs hard dive to my dekstop. I can see the folder structure and the folder took a while to copy over but there are not files in the folders. They seem to be hidden?

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I've been re-importing my CD collection (now using AIFF) after iTunes deleted most of my tracks.
Once I have imported a CD, I then open the album information tab and locate the artwork. I then go to my iTunes music folder in Finder, but the artwork is not showing in the thumbnail tracks for the albums I have re-imported; the artwork shows in iTunes, but not Finder.
Any idea why and what I can do to solve this?
I know there was several posts about getting the HD back into my finder devices but I am having a big problem because I am very confused on how to use the Terminal. If someone can give me step by step instructions.

I did some searching, but found nothing specifically in the area where I'm having networking problems.First, I very much enjoy using the newest MacMini (10.6). I got it a few months ago, and have been slowly migrating from Windows. This is where I am having difficulty solving an issue.
In the beginning I was able to network the three computers I have together and was able to "see" the two windows machines in the Finder under "network"; the laptop (Vista) and the desktop (XP). Soon there after, the Finder stopped listing the two windows machines in the Finder's "network" category. The odd thing about this issue is that by this point in time I was able to "see" the Mac from both Windows machines (dragging files from windows to the mac), but not the other way around.
Now, and the reason for this post, neither lists each other (Mac vs. Windows). I can still "see" the windows machines from each other's Explorer, but alas not the Mac.To wade through allot of questions that may crop up, I have gone through all three machine's networking "sharing" setups, and I cannot locate where the problem lies. I can also use the networking utility from the Mac and be able to "ping" the other machines. I can use Safari and "address" (http) pages from the machines, but nothing in the way of "drag-n-drop" files from the Finder.I greatly appreciate this forum, and in other areas I was able to solve other issues.
I am trying to get pictures off an SD card that I have in a card reader, plugged into the USB port. I'm not finding an icon for this anywhere! I've tried 2 card readers, as well as plugging my camera right into the USB port, and none of them show up! It was working just find 2 days ago, and now it's not. The USB port shows up in System Profiler, but not in Disk Utility.
