View 2 RepliesI've read some reports lately that Apple has signed a contract with Bing and this is why Bing is now the default engine when searching. I've tried to make my default Google (as this is a much better search engine - personal opinion) - but it continues to default to Bing. How do I stop this?

I just replaced the hard drive in my iMac with a 3 tigabyte hard drive, so I have been updating all kinds of software, etc. Instead of Foxfire, I have been using Safari when I'm on the web. When I start a general search for information, my search engine changes from Google to Bing, and I'm not sure what setting I need to keep Google from being replaced by Bing?

I was doing a search tonight and noticed that it bounced over to Google. I have Bing as my default search engine in my Safari preferences. As a test, I changed my default to Yahoo and the same thing happened. I closed out Safari and started it up again. When I entered some search criteria in the field, it showed the words "--Bing Search" just like before, but Google then took over. How can I fix this?

Some time back...maybe a couple months or a few...all my searches began running through a Bing interface. I'm hot happy with the change. Bing tends to prioritize search results for me, with lots of junk, paid ads coming up first and very few results on the first page. What has happened and how can I undo it and move on with Safari searches?

How can I get my default search engine back to google? Everything I put into the search bar gets searched with bing as the search engine.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've just returned to Mac after a long time in the Windows world, and am getting re-acquainted. In Windows, I used to copy the Bing wallpaper images that I thought were especially pretty, using the standard right click and copy. Ended up with jpegs. But I can't figure it out in Safari. Checked into Bing wallpaper downloaders, but don't find anything for Mac platform. I'm happy to do it manually, or with some type of automatic downloader.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've had my macbook pro for about 2 years and any time i would type into the search bar of safari it would always come up with a google search. recently it is coming up with a yahoo or bing search and not google. my settings for safari have it set to google as the default search engine so I'm not sure why this is happening.

I have a 2012 Macbook Pro 13".I had a hard disk failure almost 2 weeks ago. [I accidently kept the mac running by using the Caffeine app while keeping macbook in my backpack and roaming around an exhibition]. I saw blinking folder icon and couldn't detect my hard disk at all.
Then I reset SMC and tried to detect it but it didn't work.My macbook passed the Hardware Test.So I ordered and installed a new Samsung 840 Evo SSD on my macbook and tried installing mavericks but the Istalled Failed with the following error log: localhost OSInstaller[384]: update_dyld_shared_cache exited with 1

Install Failed: The Installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance. I used the same mavericks installer USB and installed my SSD on a friend's macbook pro with the same year, make and specs and it installed fine. However, when I reattched that SSD with installed mavericks and booted my macbook it gave me a blinking globe and question mark icon. Apart from SSD, I'm using all the original RAM and other parts.

I'd like to upgrade my 3Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac from OSX 10.8.5 to OSX 10.9.4, but I'm put off by the user reviews. I can't take days/weeks/months to debug an OS upgrade and get the settings back to a useful state. How do I avoid the problems so many users complain about?

21inch iMac with Mavericks. Two peripherals, a hard drive for 'Time Machine' and Canon printer. All updates in place.
After a normal start up and shut down this morning I start up this evening to find, on the white screen the usual Apple logo, the rotating wheel and a new bar at the bottom. This 'loading bar' takes about ten minutes to complete then the screen goes black. Start up again - same thing.
On the third start up I hold down the 'alt' key which leads to 4 options. I choose my 'Time Machine' and after 'searching' I'm offered a list of recent backups. I choose 2 days ago accepting that I'll loose 2 days work. It takes around 2 hours to re-install but brings back the system back to 'normal'.
I make a few critical changes to spreadsheets and request 'Time Machine' to backup. It refuses. I reasoned that it was still in use and 'restarted' the iMac. "Time Machine' now responds and does a long backup.
I note there is a report that this 'bar' may be caused by a peripheral but I have not followed the suggested work around.

Want to downgrade 2 Mac mini's (late 2012) and 2 older iMacs from 10.9.4 to 10.8.6.. On all 4 machines run currently 10.9.4 on all to 10.8.6.
Need an individual solution because every Mac must have its own identities (User name, Password etc).

In the upper right corner of my desktop there is a “Nag Screen” about installing updates. I do not want to install the updates for some time. My only choices are, in an hour, tonight, tomorrow.
This reminds me of Windows! How do I get rid of this so I can install the updates later without the annoying, constant, unnecessary reminders ?
I try the simple; Command, shift, 3 or 4 for sections. I was on the internet and I was looking for flights from my location to Boston, and I tried screens hotting and it redirected me to some page. To be more exact, commend shift 3 sends me to Facebook (3rd page on my bookmarks) and command shift 4 sends me to twitter (or the 4th one) ...

I just deleted (again for the 4th time this week) the Address Book Source files (Linc's fix). Will post again later - hopefully will find a permanent fix for that, once the problem pops up again.
This is what remains when I type pmset -g assertions in Terminal after deleting the Address Book files. Even if nothing appears to prevent sleep, yet after 5min, laptop was not sleeping and took many times pressing 'Enter' and 2min of intense computer work to 'wake' from a 'not sleeping'-stuck state. I used to hit 'sleep' or close the lid, for years (!!!) and now it's a problem after another. Nothing is connected to USB. Bluetooth is off. But wireless is on. Even Time Machine is off.
Yesterday I booted in safe mode and restarted (again a fix provided by Linc - I was really hopeful it would reset some files and fix it for good!!!). I need to close this laptop, it goes to sleep within a second and I put it in my bag and go.

I bought a brand new 27" iMac with 3.4 GHz Intel Core i5, and it's got 8GB of RAM. Although I haven't been experiencing any specific problems with it, I noticed that it was running almost slower than my Windows 7 Laptop. Confused, I downloaded an app that monitors and clears up RAM. It started off okay, telling me I was using around 3-4 GB just for doing simple things like surfing the web and generally exploring my new Mac.
However, it started warning me that I was nearly using up all 8 GB of RAM. I double checked with the Activity Monitor and it's also warning me I'm using up 6-7 GB of RAM.
I'm not running anything other than Chrome, I've downloaded Adobe CC and Photoshop CC, but neither of them have been opened let alone running. Urk, this is my first ever day using a Mac... and I know that it shouldn't be using up 8 GB of Ram on it's first day of use.
((I'm running OS X version 10.9.4 if that makes any difference))

I have been happily using Messages on my Mac, iPhone, and iPad for a while. Earlier this year, Messages on the Mac stopped being able to send, giving the following message:
I've tried to log out of the iMessage account, I've tried to reset accounts on the Mac, etc. All to no avail. Messages continue to work on both my iPhone and my iPad Mini (wifi only).
