I need to take a screen shot from an entire window. When properly rendered this window is 5 times larger than the resolution on my MacBook or the external monitor I'm using.
To use the application, it's ok to scroll around the screen, but I want to capture an image that will show the whole window.
So, how can I either:
* Size a single window so that it is much larger than the screen (Dragging horizontally works but dragging vertically doesn't) - Or
* Se the screen resolution of an external monitor to something like 9600x5400 so that I will only see part of the window (The normal max resolution of the display is 1920x1080)
I wanted to add a login banner which requires me to paste something into the Security folder. However, I couldn't find it. I opened up my Library folder in Lion and saw no Security folder. No matter how much I look, I can't find one.
I can create and veiw a (PolicyBanner) rtf document just fine. However, the image I placed in the rtf document does not show. (I've tried both jpeg & png) How was the image placed in the sample doc?
I think I used to create messages in html, but since I've updated to Mavericks, I can't. Where can I change the settings back to html. I have set "smart text" but I don't know what it is.

if I create a new personal Keychain, in this example I called "Test", everything I save into my new "Test" goes to my iCloud too? Or remain just local into my computer?
I do a simple copy and paste, but wanted to know if I can create a customize "Hot Key" on my keyboard that will paste in the word? Lets say the phrase is "Confirmed: ID".
Can I create a fusion drive using an ssd partition?
I'll explain myself better: I have a 500GB SSD and a 1TB HDD.
What I would like to do is keeping Mac OS on a 250GB SSD partition and with the other 250GB partition I would like to create a Fusion Drive that does not affect my primary SSD-only partition.

I have a 1TB drive in my Mac Pro running Mavericks 10.9.4 and I went to disk utility to erase some free space on the drive. However I keep getting the error message: Secure Erase Free Space failed Secure erase Free Space failed with the error: Couldn't create temporary file.
I Googled the error message and couldn't find anything. The error message is heaps unuseful, it doesn't tell me why it couldn't create a temporary file or what I can do to fix it.

But in the next dialog box AIM is not visible (just Google Talk, Jabber and Yahoo are visible but not AIM !!) from the Account type drop down (in my two other Mac with exactly the same settings i can see one more menu in the drop down with AIM...) but not with my last computer.

I'm trying to create a PDF from multiple images in automator. The PDF should contain:First Page: A contact sheet with all imagesFollowing pages: One page for each image
I don't even get the contact sheet working – it always results in a blank PDF.
After my last OS update, all every time I open an app, it opens a window (where I last left it) and I have to click that away before going to the folder I wan to open. Well, it does not drive me crazy but is really annoying.
I have a 3 TB disk that I used for video files that I now want to use for backup. So I wanted to erase and partition the drive to wipe it clean. So after going into Disk Utility and "trying" to erase and partition the drive, it now only shows the drive and no volumes.I cannot create or partition volumes. I tried verifying and repairing the disc but that didn't do anything. The only buttons available are Verify, Info and Burn. What do I do to use the drive again?
Tried to create a bootable clone using Disk Utility & got this:“Restore Failure, Recovery partition restores can only be done on GPT partition maps.”I may need to purchase Carbon Copy Cloner ($40) or Super Duper ($28).I had been using my free CCC v. 3.4.7 to make clones of OS X 10.6.8 but now I upgraded to OS X 10.9.4 & got message that CCC not compatible with Mavericks unless I buy the CCC v. 3.5.6.I read several places that DU can do back up clones same as CCC or SD!I launched DU from recovery system, selected Mac HD as source & my XHD as destination. Both are formatted Max OS Extended (Journaled)So, what am I doing wrong? Also, what advantages, if any, are there in using CCC or SD instead of the free DU?

I have an iMac from 2008. It got stuck in an infinite boot loop, so I took it to the local Apple Store. After they ran some diagnostics, it was determined that it was either a bad Logic Board, or Hard Drive. Because of the age of the computer, he said he was unable to work on it. Said it was "legacy" or "vintage"or something. So he gave me a little direction on how to open it up, and how to get to the hard drive (I'm fairly comfortable working on hardware replacements). Using a borrowed hard drive, I was able to boot to a Windows XP install (this was an old hard drive out of a Windows PC), which tells me that the original hard drive is shot.
So I am going to purchase a new Hard Drive this weekend, but I am unsure how to install Mavericks. This is the only Mac I have access to, so I cannot use another Mac to create a bootable USB drive or CD/DVD. Mavericks doesn't come with a disc, so I cannot use that. Snow Leopard is the newest OS disc that I have, so I could use that, but was hoping to just do a clean Mavericks install instead.
I have a Time Machine backup from less than 2 weeks ago. Is it possible to use that backup to install the OS on a new, clean, hard drive?
Is there a way on a Windows computer, to make a boot USB drive that I can use on my iMac? Or am I better off using the Snow Leopard disc, and then use the App Store to update the OS?
When trying to create a new user in Server Application I've come across this message: "existing connection is not authenticated: password change denied".
1. Quit Server.app.
2. On the Open Directory Server, execute these Terminal commands: sudo touch /var/db/openldap/migration/.rekerberize sudo killall PasswordService
3. Open Server.app. but the message I'm given in the terminal is No such file or directory.
Why I don't have the folder structure needed for this?
I just upgraded to MacOSx 10.9.3 (Mavericks) from Mountain Lion. Apple Mail can no longer create a reminder by dragging an email into the reminders icon on the bottom app bar. This was a great function. Was it discontinued in Mavericks, or is this a flaw that I can fix by changing a setting somehow?
One issue though is that occasionally, a terminal utility window will go to sleep (or become Zombified) and won't wake up again.
This happens when I am running a long numerical calculation from one of the tabs in the terminal window.
Normally, the numerical calculation does not print much, but will occasionally print out information about the progress of the program and sometimes error messages. In past MAC-OSX, I had just started the numerical calculation in one tab and went on working (vim editing e.g.) in another tab in the same window, occasionally going back to check for error messages and progress.
In Mavericks OSX though at some point, the long run-time of the numerical calculation causes the whole terminal window to sleep including the tab in which I am doing the editing.
It is an interesting sleep. The numeric calculation keeps running, so I just set the window aside to let the program finish.
Other terminal utility windows are fine but all tabs on the same window are in the sleep mode.
The sleeping windows can actually be updated to their most recent, directly visible content by hitting the yellow dot at the top left,
sending the window down to the Dock, and then reopening from the Dock.
Even after reopening the terminal window from dock, the whole window (every tab) remains asleep. Scrolling does not work, continued updating of the screen output by the numerical calculation does not work, but you can see the most recent content by using the Dock update trick.
I can work around this and change the numerical calculation to send the output and error messages to a file instead of the screen and then run the programs in background. (Don't know if background programs will still zombify the terminal window.)
Also, I can do the editing from a separate terminal window, but at first the unexpected irreversible sleep caught me off-guard.
I realise that such automatic sleeping might be part of the reason for the large increase in speed, which is actually more important to me than maintaining the viability of each terminal window.
I am wondering though if there is some way to reanimate the sleeping terminal windows to inspect error messages more easily (i.e. scroll up to old ones).
I simply want to delete an user from the login window. I thought I could simply select the user and tap the minus sign to delete, but that did not work.
