Apr 11, 2012My screen is continuously flickering ranging from quick lines flashing across various parts of the screen to the entire screen going black for a fraction of a second. This is now happening with more and more frequency. However, I do have a second monitor connected and the flickering is not happening on this screen (A Dell Screen). Is there a certain fix or should I contact Apple Care?

Dec 13, 2009I've just downgraded from my Mac Pro to my 09 Mac Mini, and whilst the transfer has been mainly painless there is one thing that is really irritating me.
I've got an SSD installed so the only noise the Mini makes is the fan, well what it's doing when I'm not doing much with the machine is the fan keeps spinning up for a fraction of a second then slowing back down.
Because it's the only noise it is really irritating. I wouldn't mind if it was spinning all the time, I'd get used to it then, but this constant up and down is really frustrating.

Jun 23, 2014I need to take a screen shot from an entire window. When properly rendered this window is 5 times larger than the resolution on my MacBook or the external monitor I'm using.
To use the application, it's ok to scroll around the screen, but I want to capture an image that will show the whole window.
So, how can I either:
* Size a single window so that it is much larger than the screen (Dragging horizontally works but dragging vertically doesn't) - Or
* Se the screen resolution of an external monitor to something like 9600x5400 so that I will only see part of the window (The normal max resolution of the display is 1920x1080)

Aug 29, 2014I have a 1TB drive in my Mac Pro running Mavericks 10.9.4 and I went to disk utility to erase some free space on the drive. However I keep getting the error message: Secure Erase Free Space failed Secure erase Free Space failed with the error: Couldn't create temporary file.
I Googled the error message and couldn't find anything. The error message is heaps unuseful, it doesn't tell me why it couldn't create a temporary file or what I can do to fix it.

Sep 2, 2014In Messages, when i want to create a AIM account (like my other two Mac). I go to, Preferences, Internet account, add a other account, "Other messages account..." and click Continue. But in the next dialog box AIM is not visible (just Google Talk, Jabber and Yahoo are visible but not AIM !!) from the Account type drop down (in my two other Mac with exactly the same settings i can see one more menu in the drop down with AIM...) but not with my last computer.

So after going into Disk Utility and "trying" to erase and partition the drive, it now only shows the drive and no volumes.I cannot create or partition volumes. I tried verifying and repairing the disc but that didn't do anything. The only buttons available are Verify, Info and Burn. What do I do to use the drive again?

Sep 4, 2014I have an iMac from 2008. It got stuck in an infinite boot loop, so I took it to the local Apple Store. After they ran some diagnostics, it was determined that it was either a bad Logic Board, or Hard Drive. Because of the age of the computer, he said he was unable to work on it. Said it was "legacy" or "vintage"or something. So he gave me a little direction on how to open it up, and how to get to the hard drive (I'm fairly comfortable working on hardware replacements). Using a borrowed hard drive, I was able to boot to a Windows XP install (this was an old hard drive out of a Windows PC), which tells me that the original hard drive is shot.
So I am going to purchase a new Hard Drive this weekend, but I am unsure how to install Mavericks. This is the only Mac I have access to, so I cannot use another Mac to create a bootable USB drive or CD/DVD. Mavericks doesn't come with a disc, so I cannot use that. Snow Leopard is the newest OS disc that I have, so I could use that, but was hoping to just do a clean Mavericks install instead.
I have a Time Machine backup from less than 2 weeks ago. Is it possible to use that backup to install the OS on a new, clean, hard drive?
Is there a way on a Windows computer, to make a boot USB drive that I can use on my iMac? Or am I better off using the Snow Leopard disc, and then use the App Store to update the OS?

1. Quit Server.app.
2. On the Open Directory Server, execute these Terminal commands:
sudo touch /var/db/openldap/migration/.rekerberize sudo killall PasswordService
3. Open Server.app. but the message I'm given in the terminal is No such file or directory.
Why I don't have the folder structure needed for this?

Jul 2, 2014I just upgraded to MacOSx 10.9.3 (Mavericks) from Mountain Lion. Apple Mail can no longer create a reminder by dragging an email into the reminders icon on the bottom app bar. This was a great function. Was it discontinued in Mavericks, or is this a flaw that I can fix by changing a setting somehow?

Sep 1, 2014I know how to create a email profile on OSX Mail to access GMail. My question is if the GMail mail will be downloaded locally to my machine or will it remain on the Google servers. I WANT it to remain on the servers, ie I only want to access my emails through Mail. Otherwise most of my HDD will fill up with email and also I will not be able to access my emails when I do not have my machine on hand. what happens when I delete an email in Mail? Will it also get deleted in GMail?
