Similar to "exclamation" mark that others have seen in the wifi icon in the toolbar, I am getting an "X" within wifi icon and cannot add wifi in settings.
I am running a mid-year 2011 MacBook Air with 1.7 Intel Core i5 / 4GB ram / 128GB of storage.

Since today, my wifi stopped working. Basically the menu icon in the top crashes if I click there, and that causes the entire menu to crash. The only way to get the entire menu back is to type in terminal: killall SystemUIServer
I tried:
- restarting computer
- resetting SMC
- deleting System Preferences
- resetting DNS cache
- repair disk permissions
The only thing that I did recently was:
- install latest Mysql Server (yesterday)
- mac OS updates (last week)

New to Macs and struggling a bit with the high res/ average eye sight combo.
I've managed to get most of my apps text sizes ok for me to see (though FF skews things up a bit), but I find my toolbar icons and text size to be a bit small for me.
Two main apps cause me grief. Mail and Office. I can't seem ti find anywhere where I can increase the size of the toolbar icons. In mail i can use Large icons, but that doesn't affect the toolbar. In Office (mainly Word/Excel) I can't seem to find anything at all.
What happened to the little bug icon on the safari 5.1.3 toolbar?

Clicking any icon on toolbar removes that element. This suggests the toolbar is in an edit mode. Only a restart will reset toolbar. Running snow leopard. All updates added To OS.

In App Store Version 1.3, running under OS X 10.9.4, the past couple of days the toolbar icons across the top of the main window --
Featured, Top Charts, Categories, Purchases, Updates -- are all grayed out. So when I try to click on any one of them, nothing happens.
I can select the corresponding pane by using the App Store's Store menu, and then the grayed-out icon for it shows a very light blue.
Non-functioing of the toolbar icons is an annoyance.
But why aren't the toolbar icons working and how do I get them back?

It is not something on the desktop as I have moved the dock and can't see it, so it is definitely connected with the Application icon. I have deleted all downloads which could have been half done and I have removed an Alias I had in the Application folder. Now all the Applications appears as "Applications" in the "Kind" column when viewing in Finder.

I'd like to set up the Default Folder, the one you get when you open a new folder with Finder's New Folder (Shift-Cmd-N), so the SideBar and, especially the ToolBar don't show up since I prefer the old fashioned behavior for folder windows. The time and date, wifi and other icons are missing from the toolbar. Other icons are missing from the finder window and the dismiss and minimize icons are missing from all windows. I have tried to delete the com.apple.systemuiserver.plist file and also tried to reboot in safe mode to no avail. When I do reboot, the some, but not all, of the top bar icons appear then disappear. It must be a plist file but I haven't a clue as to which one...

Appeared to be in good working order when I first started working with it, but I have updated from OS X 10.9.2 to 10.9.5 and downloaded Open Office program, set up my mail and went through the system preferences and personalized it. Also ran disk utilities. Then, this AM, when I restarted, the header icons on the right side are grayed out except for the battery %, the date and time and notifications. Also, in mail and safari, the toolbar buttons are blank (forward, back, print, mail, bookmarks, autofil, history and downloads). I went to the disk utility from the recovery partition (repaired disk and disk permissions). I also reset parameters. Don't know what to do next. Not sure if this is a hardware or software problem, but I am assuming it is software (OS X) related at this point.

My macbook connects to my wifi connection which is secured without any issues. However it wont let me connect to the internet. I keep getting a message on the airport icon that has an exclamation point on it that says "no internet connection available." Also, when I open up the network settings under the airport settings, it says self assigned ip address can not connect to internet. I have no idea what is going on because all of my other computers and xbox is connecting to the internet just fine. I already tried to restart the router and the modem and I also emptied the cache on the macbook. I tried to call Comcast but they were not very helpful.

I have been facing many problems on connection to wifi with my MacBook Pro Retina (mid 2012)
I'm using mavericks and updated to 10.9.4.
My wifi is working well , when I am outside of home , but when I am at home wifi list will not display anything.
Even my iPhone wifi hotspot is not being displayed at home , but out side of home it's ok!!!
When I select join other network , after entering wifi name and password sometimes it can connect , and some times I need to reboot my Mac to connect.
I also installed Windows 7 using bootcamp , And every thing was working very well in windows.
for Solving problem I tried removing wifi Preferences files , create a new location , clean re-installing OS, but none of them worked.
