I want to manually move the dock so it sits vertically and sits in the bottom right.
Is this possible?
Ive looked about on the google and all websites just seem to point towards left, right and bottom.
I have seen that several people have experienced this, and one 'solution' is to delete the album from the iPad and then move it back from iTunes. However iTunes will not let me move the album again onto my iPad. Why not? (I am having to use manual moving rather than syncing because I have another iTunes on a PC, and the iPad seems to have attached itself to that.)

At first I thought I was seeing things so to be sure I purposely moved some app icons to the far left and low and behold about 30 or so minutes later it moved them almost all the way to the right.
I checked the dock settings and there doesn't seem to be a setting for this. I did a search on the forum already couldn't find anything. This is nothing TOO major but perhaps if I understood why it's doing it I might be willing to accept it.
I have a problem with Safari especially. It keeps moving on my dock. I place it on the left and after a few seconds, it moves all the way to the right. I move it again where I want it and the same thing happens over and over.

I am running 10.6.2 OSX and every time I try to move the icons around in the dock they either move place by themselves or delete themselves?
This is especially true with browser icons. For example I could have safari open and try to move the icon in the dock from the far right towards the left ..... It will do this and stay there for approx. 5 seconds and then return back to the far right.?
If I close the safari program the icon disappears from the dock. If I then try to drag the safari program into the dock from the applications folder, it will sit there for 5 seconds again and then just delete itself off the dock. This also happens to Skype, Firefox etc.....
I have tried everything from terminal / killall Dock ..... to deleting files from /Users/~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist etc with nothing working ??
// ps I do have a mobileme account with syncing function but have dock syncing turned off etc .... I have also tried re-booting multiple times after trying different routes and nothing has worked.
After trying nearly everything I can think of (even checking repairing in disk utility) I seem to have drawn a blank.
So I have enclosed a video of my desktop showing the problem of the disappearing icons. The weirdest part is its selective so some icons could stay when being dragged their while other disappear in a matter of seconds?
I am looking for a way to move my dock to my second monitor but not my menu bar. Any thoughts? I don't want to arrange my second monitor below my first because that's confusing and messes up other things I have going on .

View 4 Replies View RelatedThe strangest thing just happened to me on my MBP (10.6.3). I was messing around with the desktop, and I moved the dock to the left side of the screen, and I selected to have it hidden. From there, I went about what I was doing, and when I went back to my document (a Bean document) the keyboard was not responsive at all. I logged out, logged in, and things were fine. I activated the dock again, and then the keyboard went out again.
I logged out, logged in, moved the dock to its original position, and now things are fine. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? I tried searching (not too thoroughly; this is kind of an urgent thing, and I didn't want the keyboard to go out on me again...), but I didn't see anything.
For some reason, my applications folder disappeared from the dock. I've tried to drag it back, next to the trash, but it won't settle there.

I've been trying to change my docks theme for the past few days but have been unable. I've used Candybar, Dock Library etc. and none of them seem to work. I'm really annoyed because it used to work for me. Any suggestions on how I can remedy this problem?
View 7 Replies View RelatedToday the OS X dock on my late '08 MacBook Pro 15" stop working like normal. It used to be, when an App was open, the icon would appear in the dock with a sort of highlight.
Now, the apps run fine but no longer appear in the dock. If I minimize it, it does show as a running app in the left hand side, but that isn't what I want it to do. Is there a quick way to get it to work again?
Very suddenly my dock has disappeared, (and occasionally reappears), and is now completely non-useable. Why..? I have created other accounts on my computer previously and the dock on those is fine...I have looked in Activity monitor and it flashes on and then disappears in there.I tried using terminal to 'killall Dock', but this did nothing...Am using Leopard on Alu iMac.
So i changed the color of my dock with dock doctor and i tried to change it back to default but it wont do it. Any ideas?

I wonder if there is an easy way to manually spin down/up the unused harddrives when you feel for it? (That would be much easier that powering down the whole computer, and unplug the disks.

does anyone know how to open the DVD drive manually. It won't open if I hold down the mouse button when I turn it on. I had problems trying to install XP in Boot Camp and had to turn off the machine. Now the windows disc is stuck inside that wants to install windows each time I turn it on. It is no good holding down the options key either.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI currently work with an old G4 Power Mac (1.25 GHz, 2GB RAM) and have to mount a FW 800 volume (WD MyBook Studio Edition 1TB) to that computer so I can consolidate to it (Avid speak for copying some data). But it doesn't mount, and Disk Utility only shows it greyed out, and there is no option to mount it like in 10.3 and following. The strange thing is, there are already two WD MyBooks Studio Edition drives connected and fully mounted. But even if I disconnect all extra drives, the one WD MyBook is still greyed out, even after reboot, which helped sometimes. I also use this drive with a 10.4.11 PowerMac G5 and a 10.5.6 C2D MBP (Unibody). Can newer Mac OS versions leave some kind of mark, so that this older Mac OS won't allow it into its system?
View 2 Replies View RelatedOriginally had Airport Extreme wifi basestation. I am running on old iBook G4 with OS 10.3.9 and a newer MacBook Pro with OS 10.6.2. My girlfriend has a PC laptop. Before i got the Macbook pro, i had no security set on the base station because i needed OS 10.4, then my g/f moved in and we set up the airport extreme base station security up on her pc. Everything worked fine until i brought home the MacBook Pro. suddenly, My iBook would not get a signal at all, and i was having problems with the MacBook Pro. My girlfriend, however, could still get a signal, no problem. There was an airport update for mac, so i updated and then thats when i couldnt get a signal AT ALL. I couldnt figure out what the deal was and got fed up and went and bought a Netgear wifi router. I set it up on my g/f's PC again, since there was a set up wizard. I wanted to set it up on my MacBook Pro, but it was so complicated that I didn't even want to attempt it.
NOW, starting a couple of weeks ago, my browser started lagging and it was taking longer than normal to download/upload etc. I saw that once again, there was an update for airport. I held off updating for a while because i didnt want it to hose my whole Wifi deal again. But alas, i got sick of everything lagging, and bit the bullet hoping it would take care of the problem. So, i did the update, logged into Netgear's website, via my g/f's PC andran updates on the wifi router itself, and now she cant get a signal, my iBook G4 will not get a signal and gives me an error, and my MacBook Pro will get a signal and load web pages but it literally takes FOREVER. I logged into my yahoo email account and could never get it to load up my inbox.
I am not tech savy at all and do not know how to manually set up any of this stuff, but i am thinking that's the only thing that may solve it (other than hardwiring into the router). I don't want to hardwire as a permanent fix, because I use both of my computers for my home business and need the wifi, as does my girlfriend.
re-setup my dad's old (2006) D-Link Wireless Range Extender (was working fine with a Netgear Wireless G router; replaced that router with the same model, only newer). I think I've figured out how to log into it now (step one, right?), but I have to "manually configure my computer's IP address to a static address within the range of the extender" (like 192.168.0.XX) and then enter 192.168.0.30 into my browser. My question: how do I "manually configure my computer's IP address to a static address within the range of the extender"? I imagine that's in the Network settings pane.

For example, if I have a folder of 100 photos in running order and I want to move London3.jpg between London 1.jpg and London 2.jpg, how do I do that? I purchased songs from iTunes Store. Files are on my computer, but did not automatically go to my Library. So tried to manually drag and drop files to my Library and they still won't go there. The songs will only play in my Purchase List and Recently Added. I turned off iTunes Match and Genius and still no luck.

I keep getting pop ups saying I need to clean my mackbook from junk, I always securely empty my trash bin, & cant currently buy the software to scan and clean my macbook pro at the moment. Is there a manual way I can do this? If so how? I don't really have much on my computer. I only have about 18 gb of music, about 200 photos, and a few documents, So I dont understand what I actually have to clean?

I just got a new iMac and reinstalled my old mp3s cd/dvds from years gone by (a 1TB hard drive is considerably larger than my old system!).Â
I am now trying to add missing artwork and the like to the files in iTunes. But I can't seem to be able to get a cursor in the 'Year' column.Â
I have a problem where .mac won't sync bookmarks but syncs everything else.
To explain my situation I had a problem with my MBP where because of some bad memory I started having a lot of problems with OS X even after fixing the memory. I decided to do a fresh install of OS X so used .mac to sync all my ical, mail, bookmarks, etc. to my Mac Pro. I did this and I checked and everything including bookmarks synced fine to my Mac Pro. After I reinstalled OS X Leopard on my MBP I then did the sync again to sync everything back.
Initially everything synced fine except for bookmarks and mail. This was last night and I tried it several times. I did another sync this morning, first from my Mac Pro to .mac and then .mac to the MBP and this time it synced all my email accounts but still has not synced by Safari bookmarks.
I did some reading online and did see mention of a problem with the Safari 3.1 and also OS X 10.5.2. I know my Mac Pro was a 10.5.2 but my MBP at that time was 10.5.1. I also used Safari 3.0 but believe my Mac Pro had already been upgraded to Safari 3.1.
Any idea how I can fix this? In a worse case is there a way I can manually copy my Safari bookmarks over?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI had to drop my iMac G5 in this morning to the apple store to get a stuck DVD out of the superdrive!!. My question is, how often to discs get stuck in the drive??? Is this a common problem??? Is there a risk of the disc getting stuck every time you put one in???? Why wouldn't apple put a pinhole to manually eject the disc or some other way of manually getting the disc out!???
