Applications :: Why Do I Have To Manually Add New Music To ITunes Database

Oct 4, 2009

Can I have iTunes automatically add new music that I add to my music folder without having to go to:

FILE> Add to Library

How come iTunes won't monitor the music location folder where I store the music. I keep all of my music in the default iTunes music folder.

This could very well be the way iTunes works but I'm new to macs and comparing it to previous programs I've used like Media Player, it would consistently monitor the music folder you chose and update or add files when it sees them changed or whatever.

Applications :: Manually Download ITunes Artwork?

Jan 12, 2010

One of the drawbacks of Automatically get Artwork function is that even if the proper artwork is in the iTunes database, the program does not download the correct artwork. I've noticed this is a real problem for a number of my Grateful Dead recordings (especially Dick's Picks, and the Download Series). I like the iTunes artwork because it's good quality and properly formatted, in terms of size and how the image displays, for the iPod. Is there anyway to manually go into the iTunes store, and copy and paste the correct album artwork?

Also, I know that I can just go somewhere else to get artwork, and I do when needs be, so please don't just tell me to grab it from Amazon or the like.

Applications :: Won't Change Play Count In ITunes Manually

Sep 12, 2010

I'm looking to find a way to change the play count for a track in iTunes other than manually skipping the song to the last second each time. Since I'm sure someone will want to know why, well, I have an 88 play count for a U2 song that was in 128kb but I just bought a newer version at 256 and want to replace the old one. I'd like to keep the 88 plays and apply it to the new, higher quality track and delete the old version. It would be tedious skip to the last second, then repeat, 88 times. I've done it this way for up to 20 plays but this is too much.

Since it apparently can't be done by using the mouse and doing it inside the program, from what I can tell, does anyone know any sort of workaround that could get this accomplished?

Applications :: Manually Hack M4v Track Length In ITunes

Jun 4, 2010

I wanted a visual representation of all my videos, regardless of format, in iTunes so I've used a combination of QT reference files for AVIs and placeholder M4Vs for DVD rips. To get the placeholders I Handbraked a 7-second clip of a DVD to M4V and applied metadata. This works to get the coverart in iTunes but the minor annoyance to my OCD nature is that the track length shows as 7 seconds (see image). Is there anyway to hack this information somewhere so I can show the actual runtime?

OS X :: Manually Mounting FW 800 Drive In Mac 10.2.6

Apr 7, 2009

I currently work with an old G4 Power Mac (1.25 GHz, 2GB RAM) and have to mount a FW 800 volume (WD MyBook Studio Edition 1TB) to that computer so I can consolidate to it (Avid speak for copying some data). But it doesn't mount, and Disk Utility only shows it greyed out, and there is no option to mount it like in 10.3 and following. The strange thing is, there are already two WD MyBooks Studio Edition drives connected and fully mounted. But even if I disconnect all extra drives, the one WD MyBook is still greyed out, even after reboot, which helped sometimes. I also use this drive with a 10.4.11 PowerMac G5 and a 10.5.6 C2D MBP (Unibody). Can newer Mac OS versions leave some kind of mark, so that this older Mac OS won't allow it into its system?

OS X :: How To Manually Set Up Wifi Configuration

Feb 14, 2010

Originally had Airport Extreme wifi basestation. I am running on old iBook G4 with OS 10.3.9 and a newer MacBook Pro with OS 10.6.2. My girlfriend has a PC laptop. Before i got the Macbook pro, i had no security set on the base station because i needed OS 10.4, then my g/f moved in and we set up the airport extreme base station security up on her pc. Everything worked fine until i brought home the MacBook Pro. suddenly, My iBook would not get a signal at all, and i was having problems with the MacBook Pro. My girlfriend, however, could still get a signal, no problem. There was an airport update for mac, so i updated and then thats when i couldnt get a signal AT ALL. I couldnt figure out what the deal was and got fed up and went and bought a Netgear wifi router. I set it up on my g/f's PC again, since there was a set up wizard. I wanted to set it up on my MacBook Pro, but it was so complicated that I didn't even want to attempt it.

NOW, starting a couple of weeks ago, my browser started lagging and it was taking longer than normal to download/upload etc. I saw that once again, there was an update for airport. I held off updating for a while because i didnt want it to hose my whole Wifi deal again. But alas, i got sick of everything lagging, and bit the bullet hoping it would take care of the problem. So, i did the update, logged into Netgear's website, via my g/f's PC andran updates on the wifi router itself, and now she cant get a signal, my iBook G4 will not get a signal and gives me an error, and my MacBook Pro will get a signal and load web pages but it literally takes FOREVER. I logged into my yahoo email account and could never get it to load up my inbox.

I am not tech savy at all and do not know how to manually set up any of this stuff, but i am thinking that's the only thing that may solve it (other than hardwiring into the router). I don't want to hardwire as a permanent fix, because I use both of my computers for my home business and need the wifi, as does my girlfriend.

OS X :: How Do I Manually Set A Static IP Address

Apr 3, 2010

re-setup my dad's old (2006) D-Link Wireless Range Extender (was working fine with a Netgear Wireless G router; replaced that router with the same model, only newer). I think I've figured out how to log into it now (step one, right?), but I have to "manually configure my computer's IP address to a static address within the range of the extender" (like 192.168.0.XX) and then enter 192.168.0.30 into my browser. My question: how do I "manually configure my computer's IP address to a static address within the range of the extender"? I imagine that's in the Network settings pane.
