OS X :: MacBook Stuck After Startup Beeping Sound
Oct 30, 2009
I have a Macbook pro 2009 (2,26Ghz, 160 GB HDD, all Apple original parts) which is only a few months old. It has never failed me and I love it. Until now. I usually just put it to sleep when I am done with it but yesterday I turned it off. Now this morning when I press the power button the mac booting up sound beeps and everything seems normal. The White screen with the apple logo comes on and it starts working. After that however a blue background appears and that "clock"-wheel-thing that spins comes up, then it goes away, then it comes back and spins some more, then it goes away and so on. Nothing else happens.
I tried turning it off and botting up again a few times but the same thing happens every time. I put in the installation-cd (Leopard) and held down c while I booted up, this seemed to be working at first, the installation menus came up and I chose that option that re-installs OSX while keeping the files on the hard drive. After a few minutes into the installation however I got a message that said (rough translation). "The installation failed. Mac OS X could not be installed on your computer. The installation could not install certain files on "/Volumes/MacintoshHD". What does this mean? Has my harddrive failed or what seems to be the problem?

I have had no problems with my MacBook Pro until recently. I am working on a summer research project so I do not usually get the time to visit an Apple Store, turn in my computer for a day and wait.
When I lift my computer while its still on, it gives me a weird beeping noise which won't stop. I always have to manually shut it down by using the power button. It work perfectly well when I switch it on again. But if I lift it in the air or if it gets out of sync with the line of gravity, the same beeping occurs.
I guess I heard some particle go around inside my Mac when I tried to tilt it when in power off mode. Should I open it and check or is it too bad?
At present, I am backing up my research data. My work would suffer a lot if I have to submit my computer for repairs even for a single day.

I recently purchased a current generation iMac and received it today. I plugged it in and attempted to power it on, the display didn't light up and all I got was some beeping noises. I checked the ram and made sure it was inserted properly and it was, I don't know what the problem could be. Like I said, it's new and I just received it today, I've never powered it on or even setup my user account. I have a busy day ahead of me tomorrow so I can't sit down and talk to someone from apple care.
Info:
iMac, iMac is new.

This started happening randomly earlier tonight, and I haven't managed to find a fix just yet.I was encoding a video file for quite awhile (I don't think that parts important, but I thought I'd include it anyway) and then I tried to play a youtube video. I noticed there was no sound, so I tried to up the volume using the Volume Up key on the keyboard. The volume visualisation appeared on the screen like normal (albeit a bit laggy), but the sound still didn't change, neither did I get the usual 'click' noise you get when you change the volume.I went looking into the sound options in the system prefs. only to find that the Output Sound device was headphones. For a test I plugged in some headphones to see what happened and, low and behold, the Output Sound device changed to the Internal Sound and my speakers were working again, but only with the headphones plugged in.

I added 2GB of Memory to my imac (early 2008), initially removed the old 1GB, would not start and got a beeping sound, moved the new 2Gb to the empty slot, and added the old 1GB to a slot, started fine but the PC would not recognize the new 2GB. Finally added another 2 GB, took the old 1GB out and would not start again and gave off the beeping sound. Other than not putting them in correctly because that was done numerous times?

My mac is stuck on the startup page. I have tried fxing it with starting it with the install disk and ive verified the disk, it says everything appears to be ok something volume appears to be ok. And then I ran disk repair and it says everything is ok. However it still does not start up. t is tuck with the grey apple and the little spinny wheel thing. And in the utilities from the install disk startup it said that S.M.A.R.T. was verified.. idk what that means bu i heard it was good.

I got the SSD version and I started it up, everything went great. It was late because I got home late and I just updated the OS and apps while I browsed the web. Once the update was done I shut it down.
Next day I turn it on and its stuck on the startup screen.

My MacBook Pro seems stuck on digital output thus no sound from speakers. Headphones recognized and work but internal speakers don't revert to default or even show up as a sound option in System Preferences. Any way to get internal speakers back? Restarting computer did not do it.

I have an old "vintage" Macbook with Tiger as my OS. I have all sorts of sleep issues with it, and recently after accidentally hitting the sleep button, I had to force quit the machine by holding down the power button because it was just (beachball) spinning when I tried to start it up again.
I went to start it up and I get the gray screen with the apple on it and the spinning "clock hands" this goes on until I get a darker screen without apple and more spinning. It stays there. We've tried a host of solutions including the resetting through battery removal, we've tried to "archive and reinstall", etc.

recently a friend of mine offered to update my 2009 MacBook to Mac osx Lion. when I received the computer back from him, it required a rather large update that has put my MacBook in a terrible state.
upon rebooting from the update, it froze at the grey Apple loading screen, and of course I thought nothing of it and gave it a little restart. Since then I cannot get it past the grey screen or the login window. it seems as though I cannot type in my password or click 'sleep' or any option the window gives me. I've been working on this issue all day, and I've tried countless things from the apple support community, with no avail.
I've tried clearing the cache, I've tried safe mode, I've tried the command+option+control+enter trick on the login page, I'm even trying to boot from the install disc my friend gave me...and it's just refusing to move past the grey screen.

I know that in the past this question has been asked, but I was just wondering if anyone has figured out how to _change_ the sound, not turn it off. Although some folks might want to turn it off too.

Normally the apple logo shows up, but here it doesn't then you hear that ticking sound again it's really weard. i hope that i can solve this problem myself if i cant then i can bring it to the laptop-docter at our school so that's also a possibillity but i want to make my home-work in the holiday so i hope that i can solve this problem myself.

I have a Mid 2011 13-inch MacBook Air. My speakers chime perfectly at boot up, but then when Lion 10.7.4 loads, it won't load whatever driver is needed to run the speakers.
The really weird thing is that I have the speaker icon on my top bar and "Internal Speakers" are not only listed in the Outputs of my Sound tab in System Preferences but even selected. Both the volume bar in the Sound tab and on the top bar are grayed out and non-adjustable. But whenever I reboot, I get a lovely chime sound again.
This seems to be purely a software problem, but I didn't even know Mac OSX could recognize the internal speaker hardware without loading a driver for it!

Every computer I ever had, the first thing I do is to turn off the startup sound because it is very annoying in a public place and sometimes in a quiet place. I have not been able to find out how to trun it off on my Air. I asked the guys at the stores and they just say you can't. That is really dumb. I turned off my speaker but that is not a practical way because I may not remember to turn it off when I shut down.
how do I turn it off permenantly.
