OS X :: Uploading Crashes Browsers - Java And Flash
Nov 23, 2009
I have a Macbook 2.4ghz core 2 duo running Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and I've been having massive problems when uploading files both on a Wireless and LAN connection. When I try and upload to a site like myspace, facebook or anyother site with uploading options my upload times out and/or crashes the browser for a while (this is for larger files whereas photos don't upload in full). This seems to be primarily with flash/java upload options and happens when using Safari, Firefox and Opera. So far I've re-installed 10.6.2 and repaired disk permissions and also re-installed flash and none of these options makes any difference. I know it's not a network issue as it works perfectly on my 1ghz e-mac running Leopard Anyone got any solutions? It's completely baffled me.

After updating, there's a java error when using my browsers. I've downloaded and installed as directed and it's still giving me the error.

I am trying to upload photos to an outside vender and it requires JAVA (which I must not have the latest version of because the site directed me to install it). I am using Mac OS X version10.5.8. If I choose About Java Preferences it says I have Java 6 Standard Edition version 12.9.0. How to find the correct update.

About a month ago Netflix started giving me problems while watching instantly. Audio wasn't syncing with video and it would skip and freeze. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Silverlight, but that didn't work. After corresponding via email with micrsoft silverlight support and a complete uninstall and reinstall of silverlight and testing it on other websites, we determined that silverlight is not the issue. I then tried Netflix support, which was terrible and of no help at all. Now Netflix crashes all browser (Safari, Firefox, & Chrome) upon loading. Netflix streaming works fine on all other computers in the house. I have all of the most recent updates of all browsers, I've tried repairing disk permissions and I'm running OS X 10.6.8 with all current software updates. I'm not sure what else to do.

I searched for this, but I have not been able to find any solution to the issue of Flash freezing browsers on Leopard. A number of people seem to be having this issue with Flash 10.
I have a MacBook with 10.5.6 and all updates, and the latest flash from Adobe.
Using Safari or Firefox, I am unable to display sites with flash. For example, when going to [URL] the page begins to load, and hangs at the end, with a spinning cursor. Only option is to force quit.
Deleting flash allows the page to display, but obviously w/o flash.
Reinstalling flash (version 9 or 10), brings back the freeze.
Other machines I have (MBP) with the same software, work fine.
Creating a new user has the same issue.
Restart, and Repairing permissions has no effect...
Everything was working fine last night, and nothing significant has changed since then.

I have a new 13" macbook pro. I updated to the new flash and now every time I go to a page that contains flash, my browser crashes. I've tried on safari, firefox and I'm currently on Chrome. I have no idea what to do. Everything else works fine it's just when I go on a site containing flash it crashes. I wanted to watch a stream from ustream and every time I went on the site it crashed. I've never been on that site, but I'm guessing they use flash. So, I downloaded the latest flash and now it's even worst. What do I do? The program actually freezes, but I can't do anything so I have to force quit it. Except Chrome I only need to exit the tab, I think.

Howdy -- I've been having some problems with a 2010 MBP. Some very hard crashes along with a lot of slowdowns and spinning discs while using the various browsers (usually some combination of Safari, Chrome & Firefox)... I ofren have M'soft Word open as well. Â
In some crashes, the cursor still works but that's it. Nothing else on the screen responds or reacts and I eventually have to hold down the power button. I'm using Lion, but I did exeperience some of these problems before ugrading.Â

I have a macbook pro and I have the OS X lion installed with all the latest updates to Safari etc. Lately my browsers have been acting up. Â
While I can access a lot of websites on my Safari there are other sites which do not load and I get the spinning beach ball before Safari crashes. My Safari also seems to take longer to load. Â
I have the latest Firefox 12 installed. When that starts up on the home page it crashes straight away after the obligatory spinning beach ball. I tried to trouble shoot Firefox but it wouldn't even open in safe mode before it crashed. Â
I also have Opera which doesn't even start up. So I uninstalled and upgraded to Opera Next. It doesn't even start up! Â
I have checked for plug in issues. I have up to date adobe flash player and java - unless there is some issue there. I also checked my DNS and it seemed clean of trojans. But I could or may have overlooked something. Â
I did use 'onyx' to clean my files but the trouble began before I used it. So now I am at a loss to understand why I am having problems with my browsers. Â
I'm not very technical but I have done my best to follow various threads around here to dismiss obvious causes. Â

Every time I navigate to a page that has Flash elements into it (e.g. YouTube), Safari hangs and my computer beach balls. I can't view any pages with Flash elements in them (or at least pages that have multiple Flash elements) without Safari freezing and causing me to kill Safari through Force Quit.
To try to fix this problem, I reset Safari (resetting every available option), repaired permissions, restarted, and nothing worked. Then I used the Flash uninstaller from Adobe's website to uninstall Flash, then reinstall a fresh copy which did not work.
I reinstalled Snow Leopard, updated all of my system's software, and then tried to view [URL] and the same problem still occurred.
Now I originally thought that the Safari 4.0.4 update caused the problem. However - after I reinstalled Snow Leopard and updated to 10.6.2, I downloaded to Camino to see if YouTube would work, but to my surprise it didn't. The same exact problem I'm having with Safari (entire browser freezing when viewing a page with Flash such as YouTube) is also happening with a 3rd-party browser (Camino).
This leads me to believe that 10.6.2 may be the source of the problem (as I never had this problem with 10.6.1), not the 4.0.4. I cannot go on websites with Flash elements in them, even with a 3rd-party browser.

I just noticed that playing YouTube Video in Safari or Google Chrome the CPU usage is not less than 70-75 % on both cores ( MacBook 2.4ghz unibody with SL 10A432 32bit kernel ).
On Firefox the CPU usage on the same YouTube video is no more than 40-45% on both cores.
Anyone else notice this ?
I guess it may happen because flash plugin is 32 bit and used in some sort of sandbox in Safari now because Safari is 64bit and flash plugin is 32 bit ( in Chrome everything run in sanbox and I got the same CPU usage on Leopard ).
Firefox is 32 bit application as Flash is and I'm guessing thats why it uses less CPU.

So this is a problem that's been bugging me for half a year or so. Usually, I start up a video on Youtube or the like and for about 2-3 minutes it runs smoothly, but after that, the audio skips a bit (kind of like a record skipping) and the RAM spikes. After the hiccup, it tends to run normally, but after a few seconds, it'll skip again and occasionally, the audio will degrade and all audio played back through the browser sounds heavily distorted until I restart.
I used to run Firefox, but when this problem popped up, I would get this:
so I switched to Opera, which worked for a little while, but the problem came back. I tried Safari and Chrome, but it's still there.

Yesterday, a web site that I use frequently suggested that I upgrade my Flash Player and gave me a link to do so. Ever since I downloaded and installed the new version, any time the Flash starts to load, the browser crashes.
I downloaded the Uninstall for Flash, unintalled it, restarted from my Install Disc and repaired the permissions as suggested. Then I restarted, installed the new version of Flash Player (with all browsers off!) but as soon as I accessed a web site and needed to use Flash, the browser crashed (both Safari and Firefox). Is there a solution or am I just out of luck now?

So macrumors peeps, as the title reads, whenever i open a web browser and go to either espn or youtube or anything that flash associates itself with, the windows hangs or freezes and the beachball cursor comes up forcing me to force quit. I am currently using a Macbook 10.5.8 and Firefox 3.6.3 and Safari 4.0.5. Also i have restarted my macbook, updated it completely, tried reinstalling Adobe Flash Plug-in, done the disk utility repair disk (even though idk if i did it right) and i have been surfing the web for two days to find a solution.

I think since I updated my mac OS X lion 10.7.2 to 10.7.3. I cannot open YouTube no matter the browser I use it's always the same, so I checked my flash player version and I have the latest one so I don't think the flash player is the problem, I don't know what to do.

For some reason, when I go to listen to a band's music on MySpace, the player will load and play the music, but it won't show the song titles, and the little visualizer thing on the player all moves as one big blue block, rather than looking like a waveform. I downloaded the latest version of Flash, and I'm having this problem with both Firefox 3.5.5 and Safari 4.0.4.

I have had Clicktoflash for ages, and recently got the Safari extension to replace the addon. Even more recently, i decided to disable Java, because my browser seemed to still be crashing. Ever since then, i have not seen Safari crash once, we're talking about a month of daily use. I'm curious, has anyone else experienced something similar?

I am new here but have been using Mac machines since 5 years however the problem I am having these days is driving me crazy and I can't seem to find a solution.
Basically every time I try to watch a Flash related streaming website [URL] my computer crashes (I have read of browsers crashing before but not an actual crash by the entire Computer, scary) and I must reboot pressing the Power button.
I am almost sure it is a Flash issue because of three things: first, I thought this could have been some sort of Virus and decided to format my Computer (late 2006, iMac Power PC, version OS X 10.4.11, 2.16 GHZ Intel Core Duo) only to later find out that the problem was still there, second because when viewing the actual stream I have opened Activity Monitor and noticed how the % of CPU was absolutely above any acceptable average for the browser I was viewing the live stream with (touched 94% on [URL] and [URL]) and was still very high but not high enough to cause the crash for YouTube (about 45%) and last but not least when I uninstalled Flash my Computer was going very well and showed no sign of problem.
This happens with both Safari and Firefox and I have no idea on how to solve it.
I watch Baseball games and live streams very often and this is causing me a serious headache! I have tried to downgrade to Flash Version 9 but [URL] requires Version 10 and for other websites the issue was still there.

After updating my system to 10.7.4, the flash plugin crashes in both Safari and Firefox. Videos don;t so much as start. I reverted back to 10.7.3 with time machine and flash workes fine again. Reinstalled the update, and broken again. Safari and Firefox are all up to date as well as the flash plugin. All caches have been cleared. Based on info I have gotten from this and other forums, I have checked all the settings in the flash system preferences.Â

I am using a mid 2009 Macbook pro, and just updated to 10.7.4. Since doing this my Flash plugin crashes on both Safari and Firefox so I can't even load Youtube videos. Â I've got the most updated version of Firefox and Flash player, and after looking through forums have tried rebooting my Macbook several times. Each time I reboot Youtube videos load a little bit more without crashing, but I havn't got more than 5 seconds into a video yet.Â

I've experienced several crashes with Safari 5.0, and noticed something about the dialogue box that appears when it crashes. It says something to the effect of, "The problem could be caused by a Flash plugin." Has that dialogue box been around in previous versions of Safari? Is Apple trying to subtly gain support for their view that Flash should no longer be used?
