View 13 RepliesI'm looking for an online backup service at around $5 a month, where I can backup my Aperture library (50+ GB).So far I've tried these - and I don't like them...Mozy: It's all good, until restore. Then it sucks.Backblaze: Exclusion-based backup. Really cumbersome to exclude all folders on my Mac when I only need Aperture library to be backed up...iDrive: Bandwidth throttling doesn't work, they call it "auto-pause" and even while set to 25%, it still uploads with all my ADSL connection can do - making surfing terrible.
Keepit: No bandwidth throttle at all. Crashplan: Too much "in the background" - no menubar icon or anything else to keep an eye on. The app doesn't feel Mac native at all, I guess it's in java (I can live with it, but it makes me feel like they only do a Mac version so they can say "Mac's supported"). Carbonite: I've heard it's pretty bad, so I haven't tested it yet.So far Crashplan is my preferred choice but it's not one I'm happy with. I'll have to see how it does with a 50gb backup/restore process first though,
Does anyone know of a good online faxing service ?that is reasonable in price.....?BTW, i only need to send out faxes and not receive at all...

Been trying different online backup programs, but hit a glitch when installing programs.SafeCopy gives me an - Install Failed - The Installer could not write the receipt for "safecopyPostflight".I also get a could not write Receipt Error, when I try to install Carbonite.I called Tech Support for both companies, they had others that had same problems, but other than wipe the drive and start with a fresh OS X install, offered no solution.

I'm looking for a NAS drive which supports AFP and/or Bonjour. I looked through smallnetbuilder, and the Western Digital My Book World Edition appears to, but their forum has a bunch of posts complaining about Snow Leopard compatibility. Same thing with the Seagate Blackarmor NAS.

I noticed the other day that when I put my bootcamp installation of Windows XP to sleep it turns off my firwire soundcard, when I put Leopard to sleep it doesn't, the firewire soundcard remains powered up. Surely Leopard should be more eco friendly than Windows XP!! Anyone know why this would be the case? Is there a way of powering down the firewire ports when Leopard sleeps?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm planning to start my own internet business, selling bulletin board skins for several different forum software. However, I'm a PC user whilst a quarter of my customers will be using Mac's. I understand that Mac users won't be able to see the files they purchase through my web site as Mac's make certain files invisible. I have read a guide on CNET to make files visible on Mac's [URL], however, the guide is only for Mac users, as I have stated before I am a PC user. My question is, is there a possible way to make visible files for Mac's via a PC? I'm currently using Windows XP Home Edition SP3.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI have experience with 2 Canon printers, 1 Lexmark. None of them did the job well. Canon drivers did not allow to scan, Lexmark had wireless printing issues and some weird hardware error when I had to open it up and take out and take in the cartridges to make it print again.
Now my question, what brand makes MOST Mac friendly drivers and printers themselves? I'm thinking of Brother, but I have no experience with it, and I don't know how well drivers work. Basically I'm after a MFU without fax. Just print/scan/copy functions.
I just bought a MacBook Pro because I was fed up with VISTA. I am an Architect and have tried TurboCAD etc for the Mac but find them slow and not very user friendly. Until Rhino comes out I am stuck with AutoCAD. I absolutely need to use it. So I need to know, how if possible and what would be the best application to do that. I have read the discussions about Parallels, BootCamp and the free ware Darwine? But I need to know which would work best, and not bug out my computer for AutoCAD as it will be the only windows based program I will run! Everything else I can and do on my beautiful new mac.

View 2 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know of any *free* applications that will convert QuickTime video to a Windows friendly format. One of the insurance companies I do work with will not let their adjusters install any other software on their laptops and they are PC's. I frequently send them videos so I will need to convert them. I will pay, if necessary, for a program that will accomplish this but I was hoping there might be something out there that is free.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for a new video card for a MacPro 1.1 (Intel 2007) that will handle Steam source engine games decently and also work with bootcamp. I'm OK with BIOS flashing a PC card but I don't want to have to deal with patching files as well to get it to work since its going into a friends Mac and I won't always be around to show him how to patch stuff if he ever reinstalls OS X.

I know chrome is pretty battery intensive, which is sad, it's one of my favorites. How is Firefox and Opera and such?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI will be a hardcore PC guy gone mac soon. I am getting a MAC pro in a few days.
On my PC I run a dell 30'' and a sony XBR3 at 1080P on an 8800gt. It works well.
The one thing that could ruin my mac switching plans is my TV giving me problems.
I will have an ATI and nvidia card on hand for the MAC pro.
I know this has been mentioned before, but I read previously that only the new unibody Macbooks have the energy saver icon as a flourescent bulb. i am on a 1/2008 black macbook and noticed in system prefs that the energy saver icon is now the eco-friendly flourescent bulb. anyone else notice this?

View 4 Replies View RelatedEverything is running very, very slowly. In the Terminal, top shows me that process 15, DirectoryService, is using between 45 and 248%(!) of my cpu, and hdiutil is also using much more than I expect. What is causing this, and, more importantly, how can I make it stop. It is making my computer unusable.
It doesn't seem to matter what applications are running or if I have Web Sharing on or off. I suspected it was the flood of attempted logins from having Web Sharing on, but turning it off doesn't make any difference.

Everywhere I look I find comples answers about the best way to use the Match service, etc.I am starting simple.if possible I do NOT want to get ICloud. I just want my music world to work about as well as it has until now:
1) I have my CDs on my IMac.
2) I sync what I need to my IPad using a cable. (I hear you an do it wirelessly, but I have not seen how to do that.)
We are told we have to hurry as MM will end and then we will not be able to carry over stuff to the Cloud.
1) Will Itunes sync still work as it does if I do not choose to go over to the cloud?
2) Will I still be able to move some or all pictures over to the IPad the same way I do now?
If so, then I don't think I need the Cloud or Match (I am in Japan and not sure we even have the Match program).I do not need my mobile me address.I do not need to have documents duplicated across devices. I just want to go on as I have.I understand you can have stuff in the cloud so you can have access to it all the time. But I don't travel. I just want my muisc selection in the living room and upstairs in my room.Plus I have many GB of musc, so I think I would go righth over the 5GB limit right away.

He strives to put out products that worked the first time, quick to acknowlege problems, and relentlessly worked to solvem them. I've had the isssue of iTunes radio not refessing since last month. It was annoying but a few tries resulted in success. I just upgraded to iTunes 10 on one of my Macs only to find that the problem is worse. At least, the old issure gave me an error message. Now the barber bar just does its thing ad infinitum.

View 5 Replies View RelatedIs there a 3rd party service that can help me get files off my PowerBook Macintosh Laptop that I bought in 1997? It doesn't have things that would make this easy, like wireless or USB. I would happily pay someone to figure this out for me, otherwise the laptop will sit in the closet forever and I will ultimately loose all my data on the computer.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI wrote a very simple service via automator that allowed me to compose a new mail msg in any application using a keyboard shortcut. It used to work amazingly fast, but with time it seems to take quite a bit of time to get that new mail window to come up after using the keystroke. I am thinking this is similar to what happens to my Dictionary app...about every 2 weeks on average, loading dictionary takes a LOOOng time (via typing in a word in spotlight). So every 2 weeks or so I delete the plist file and it is good as new. Is there something like this I can do here? Also - either this seems to be a common theme with teh Mac OS (apps/etc slowing down with time), or I am doing something wrong. Which is it?
