Applications :: Using AutoCad On MacBook Pro - User Friendly
Apr 12, 2009I just bought a MacBook Pro because I was fed up with VISTA. I am an Architect and have tried TurboCAD etc for the Mac but find them slow and not very user friendly. Until Rhino comes out I am stuck with AutoCAD. I absolutely need to use it. So I need to know, how if possible and what would be the best application to do that. I have read the discussions about Parallels, BootCamp and the free ware Darwine? But I need to know which would work best, and not bug out my computer for AutoCAD as it will be the only windows based program I will run! Everything else I can and do on my beautiful new mac.

Dec 22, 2009Does anyone know of any *free* applications that will convert QuickTime video to a Windows friendly format. One of the insurance companies I do work with will not let their adjusters install any other software on their laptops and they are PC's. I frequently send them videos so I will need to convert them. I will pay, if necessary, for a program that will accomplish this but I was hoping there might be something out there that is free.

Nov 16, 2008I noticed the other day that when I put my bootcamp installation of Windows XP to sleep it turns off my firwire soundcard, when I put Leopard to sleep it doesn't, the firewire soundcard remains powered up. Surely Leopard should be more eco friendly than Windows XP!! Anyone know why this would be the case? Is there a way of powering down the firewire ports when Leopard sleeps?

However, I'm a PC user whilst a quarter of my customers will be using Mac's. I understand that Mac users won't be able to see the files they purchase through my web site as Mac's make certain files invisible. I have read a guide on CNET to make files visible on Mac's [URL], however, the guide is only for Mac users, as I have stated before I am a PC user. Aug 7, 2010I have experience with 2 Canon printers, 1 Lexmark. None of them did the job well. Canon drivers did not allow to scan, Lexmark had wireless printing issues and some weird hardware error when I had to open it up and take out and take in the cartridges to make it print again.
Now my question, what brand makes MOST Mac friendly drivers and printers themselves? I'm thinking of Brother, but I have no experience with it, and I don't know how well drivers work. Basically I'm after a MFU without fax. Just print/scan/copy functions.
Applications :: Unable To Find Backup Program / Customizable Program For Backup?
May 28, 2009I'm looking for an app that will allow me to specify which folders I want to copy to my external drive, updating existing files within it and copying new ones.
I don't want to backup settings, my whole harddrive nor make a bootable backup. Just something to backup what I want to backup and where.
Not sure if Time Machine can do that, but it wants me to reformat my external before I can even find out..and considering how much is on there, I really don't want to have to remove that all elsewhere while doing so. [Don't think I could anyway, none of my internal drives have that much space.]
So, does anyone know of a relatively painless backup app that could do simply what I want? Doesn't sound all that complicated in comparison to some of the more convoluted backup apps I keep finding.

Jun 25, 2009I am trying to switch my email program from Thunderbird to the mac email program Mail.Thunderbird has been playing up a lot recently and am tired of the glitches.
I have all the correct server settings etc and succesfully imported my mailboxes. The problem is that when I send an email it isn't from the right email address?? Is this a Mail problem or smth to do with my settings? I'm with Virgin media and have a separate set of email address through my website for my business so my email address are through freeola that I am using through Thunderbird.I'm sorry if this all sounds very stupid but I am pulling my hair out trying to figure out where I have gone wrong!

On my PC I run a dell 30'' and a sony XBR3 at 1080P on an 8800gt. It works well.
The one thing that could ruin my mac switching plans is my TV giving me problems.
I will have an ATI and nvidia card on hand for the MAC pro.
