OS X :: Accidently Deleted My Trash Folder - How To Recover It
Jul 30, 2009i couldn't delete a file from my trash can, so i followed a link i found in a thread where some one had the same problem as i did, in the link i found a guide that said i should go to terminal and enter "sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash" so i did, and yea my trash can was now empty, but then i tried to delete a file by dragin' it into my trash can in the dock, my macbook now tells me that the file will be deleted INSTANT, i search the internet again and found out that my problem was that the command i intered in terminal (sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash) deleted my trash directory

Aug 4, 2010I accidentally deleted my Quickens files and Emptied the Trash. Now I'm trying to recover it using Data Rescue II, I found the folder Documents/Quicken, but there is just one file. When I recover it, Quicken program won't open it - Can't load the file.
Where else could Quicken files be? I'm looking for .qdfm file format, but still can't find anything else.
Could somebody advise what else I could try to find those deleted files?

Software :: Data Recovery From Deleted Folders / Files Are Deleted Via Trash?
May 18, 2010I have a MacPro (Intel), and I had my Music folder on a second (non-boot) internal drive. That drive was getting full, so I bought yet another internal drive to put in one of the other bays, thinking to copy the folders to the new, larger-capacity drive. So I bought a 2 Tb drive and transferred all my MOVIES to the new drive, but then went back and deleted my MUSIC folder and emptied the trash. I knew immediately that I'd made a mistake.
I haven't written anything to that drive whatsoever from that moment on, so absolutely nothing should have been over-written. I have plenty of room on the new drive to which I can recover the deleted files. Unfortunately the folder/directory was very large, with over 20,000 files, mostly of podcasts/spoken word stuff, much of which is no longer available or would represent thousands of hours of download time, plus all my digitized folk music from long out-of-print LP records.
You'd think I'd be more responsible with >600 Gb of data! However, fortunately the drive is in good working order, it just requires a good recovery strategy. I know that services that do recovery charge a fortune, and because I haven't written anything to that drive and it still mounts without problems, I'm hoping I can do this myself with a good data recovery software package. Because I am talking about literally thousands of files, it is just too painful to think about editing all the metadata about each file (name, artist, album, etc.), and ideally I would like to recover the files and the file structure so podcasts are recovered as such, etc.
Is this at all possible?
If so, what are the relative merits of File Salvage vs. Data Rescue vs. Kernel for Macintosh (Nucleus Data Recovery) vs. VirtualLab Data Recovery vs. Stellar Phoenix? Is there something better than these--these are the only ones I found on a Web search. Are there any head-to-head reviews of which someone is aware?
OS X V10.7 Lion :: Why Don't Items Put In The Trash Appear In The Trash
Mar 26, 2012Sometimes items it put in the trash don't appear in the trash, although they are there. This often happens when I manually delete podcasts from iTunes, or drag an item such as a PDF from my downloads folder to the trash. The dock icon remains in it's "empty" state and bring up the trash finder window also shows that it is empty. If I restart my MacBook however, the items appear in the trash and are able to be deleted.

Aug 11, 2009I just discovered that I had deleted a bunch of "To Do" items by accident. I cannot find where they go. I cannot believe that there is no "Trash" type place for them and they are gone forever.
If that his how the "To Do" list works, I will have to find a replacement. Hard to believe that a single keystroke is so irreversible. I found myself somehow on the wrong row and deleted several items this way. Cannot find them anywhere.

Jun 10, 2009My boss accidentally deleted all the messages in his inbox in Apple Mail and since it syncs with the server (mediatemple), they're all gone from the webmail too. Is there anyway to recover these files? I sent a support request to mediatemple to see if they have backups that they can recover too.
We have a tape backup system here at work that backs up his user account. Would there be a specific file to look for that might contain the old messages?

I have been accessing my GMail account using POP access and Apple Mail.app. I switched over to IMAP online, went into Mail.app Preferences, deleted my POP account and was about to re-add it as an IMAP account when I noticed that the e-mails in my inbox were deleted when I deleted my POP account. I checked ~/Library/Mail and the folder was in fact deleted. Is there anyway to recover that folder? Not all of the e-mails are still on GMail's web interface.
