OS X :: Need Multi-session Dvd Burner - Freeware?
Feb 4, 2010I just bought a new Samsung USB DVD drive for $50 that is capable of writing & reading in every conceivable disk mode. However, Tiger's Disk Utility really doesn't support writing & reading multi-session (SAO) disks. Does anyone know any of any freeware DVD disk burning software that supports multi-session disk burning & reading?
I recently installed a current model DVD drive in my brother's Toshiba 2100 CDT (vintage 2000) running Windows 2000 Pro & got a program called CDBurnerXP that writes & reads multi-session disks & now I'm frustrated that I can't do it on my iMac or my wife's MacBook both running Tiger 10.4.11.
OS X :: Burning Multi Session DVDs
Feb 21, 2010What's the matter with Apple, don't they know there is such things as DVDs . I have quite a lot of DVDs from my day's with a PC, but now I have a iMac I don't seem to be able to use them except for 1 time recording. Say for accounting , if I use the disc utility I cannot use them more than once and the same with Roxio Toast. If the backup is only 39mb that is an awful waste of a DVD to only use it once. Alternatively am I wrong with my approach's to use more than once?

Now, I really need to do it, but the DVD in question won't be full after the first recording...Â
how can one use 'DIsk Utility' to burn a multi session CD or DVD with personal documents?
I've found many tutorials over the internet, but they cover old version of OSX. I presume that with OS X Lion things might be different?Â

Mar 26, 2012I've a strange problem with iChat, it closed when i lock my session. Only it with Google Chrome. The others applications still running.Â
I've checked all the option in system preference. the "Restore Windows..." option is checked. I've, also, looked the logs with the Console when i lock the session and when i unlock it. I see anything.Â

Apr 27, 2007If I have an event, starting on Friday, going on Saturday and and finishing Sunday, is it not possible to get this to show in the month view? I know it shows up in the weekly view, but it would be more helpful for me to have it up show up like this so I can get an overview of the month's forthcoming events. Or if it, are there any mods/addons etc that can enable this?

Oct 25, 2009I'm thinking of making the jump and making my first Apple computer purchase. Time machine will be a welcome native backup solution, especially since I can do it over the network automatically. However, I've read that Time Machine naturally requires HFS+ formatted disks. But I will still have my Win7 laptop for gaming purposes, and of course that requires NTFS or FAT32 for writability. My question: Can I just take a TM compatible external drive, split it into two partitions, and then specify that each computer backup onto its own partition with its own file system?

Dec 11, 2008In Snow leopard, they say that its suppose to handle multiple processors much more efficiently. The articles usually concentrate on 4 or 8 cores though. My question is would it be much of an improvement for someone who has a new MacBook Pro which only has two processors?
Addition: I also understand that we don't know too much about snow leopard yet but how effenciant is Leopard with dual processors?

Software :: Safari & Snow Leopard Multi Tabs Failing?
Mar 3, 2010ever since upgrading to Snow Leopard when I am using Safari and browsing a page and then selecting 'open link in new tab', the tab opens and sometimes finds the link ok.
If I open 3 or more new tabs Safari fails to find the page.
This happens on many different websites. I thought it may be the modem/router but I am on a 10meg cable link and I do not get this same issue when using Safari on a PC connected to the same network.
Is this a Safari/Snow thing or is it just coincidence the way it has happened and it might be a router setting or something?

Feb 5, 2009Apple's Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard operating system will include tools borrowed from the iPhone that let developers determine the geographical location of Macs, as well as extend additional support for multi-touch to their apps, AppleInsider has learned. People familiar with the latest pre-release distributions of the next-gen OS say the software now includes the CoreLocation framework previously available via the iPhone SDK, which will allow Mac applications to identify the current latitude and longitude of the Macs on which they're running. Since Macs don't include GPS technology like the iPhone 3G, CoreLocation will utilize a Mac's existing networking hardware to triangulate the system's location in a manner similar to the way the original iPhone was able to use the technology to emulate a true global positioning signal. Meanwhile, those same people say that developers writing applications for Snow Leopard will also gain access to a new set of Cocoa-based programing interfaces for leveraging the multi-touch features of the latest MacBooks and MacBook Pros within their applications. AppleInsider first revealed plans for the new multi-touch framework in a an article from last June titled "Five undisclosed features of Apple's Mac OS X Snow Leopard." Mar 20, 2012For the second month in a row my company has grossly exceeded its bandwidth limit.The culprit is our Mac server automatically downloading ~15GB of updates in a given day of the month, most recently the 21 March. Every update is labeled "multi-lingual voices" (version 1.0, post date 16 March 2012), each update's size 200MB to 500MB. There is no reference/description regarding what these updates are, only a product id e.g. "041-4502 (Multi-Lingual Voices)"Â
The server update settings in Server Admin is set to "all new" updates. Automatically copied. Delete outdated software updates.Â
1. What are these multi-lingual voices updates, where and why are they used?Â
2. Can I restrict these updates from automatically downloading, whilst retaining the "all new", automatic copy, setting for the remainder of my other updates?

May 30, 2012I have bootcamp installed and Win7 64 bit on that partition. I can drag and drop files from WIn7 to the Mac Drive ... but I can not drag and drop from the MAC desktop to the BootCamp Drive or any folder. I have the drive set for sharing ... but the Privledges ar READ ONLY .. in the "get info" screen. but ti seems to fixate on problems installing WIN7 ... I'm well past that I just want to copy and paste from each drive backa nd forth!

Sep 12, 2009I am sure many of you heard that Snow Leopard was supposed to have native read/write for NTFS partitions. Apple supported NTFS R/W in older SL builds but I guess decided to not to go with it for some reason, however support is still present. For this, you need to modify your /etc/fstab file to mount NTFS partitions for read and write.
First, uninstall NTFS-3G/Paragon if installed.
Open Terminal.app (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal)
Type "diskutil info /Volumes/volume_name" and copy the Volume UUID (bunch of numbers).
Backup /etc/fstab if you have it, shouldn't be there in a default install.
Type "sudo nano /etc/fstab".......................

Jun 23, 2012We're having trouble with a Time Machine backup. Twice in the last three days, the backups failed with the error message that the backup disk image is already in use.I noticed that the partition containing the backup sparse bundle is mounted twice in /Volumes -- /Volumes/X and /Volumes/X-1. The error message refers to /Volumes/X-2.The icon that appears on the desktop has not cleared as if it's still doing a backup.Looking at the sparsebundle directly gives me the "verificationstate" as 1 -- I recall reading that this is supposed to 0. Other values:
verificationdate == 2012-06-05, and VerificationExtendedSkip == false.Note that the backup drive is attached to another Mac still running Leopard. This is run fine for years over a gigabit network.

OS X Leopard :: Disk Write Cache Corruption On External Hard Disk?
Feb 15, 2011Recently I purchased an external hard disk, to put all of my pictures of my baby due to space limitations on my internal laptop drive. Since my Canon camera 10 megapixel pictures take up a ton of space this was occurring at an alarming rate. My intention was also to back up to DVD but never got to it. This is both a comment and a question.
Now said baby, is getting really good at pulling cords etc. He managed to do this on the external drive firewire cable. As far as i know the drive was not in the process of actually writing. However, after a few minutes and trying to re-plug the drive the OS crashed with a Grey Screen of Death hardware error that tells you that you need to push the power button..
This apparently corrupted the drive's directory. Upon reboot the drive would not mount. Since there were time machine backups on the drive too Diskwarrior was not able to reconstruct the drive in the built in memory available on the computer. Time machine stores millions of files and Diskwarrior apparently wants to keep it all in memory at once. Since my computer has 2GB you would hope that would be enough but apparently not. So that failed. Other utilities seemed to be able to find the files but not restore the directory. I also took it to the apple store they were not able to recover it.
I have to say this is extremely distressing, and hard to believe that a simple accident like this could cost the loss of thousands of pictures. I did send it to a rescue company but that was expensive but I think apple needs to do something about this situation.
On Windows there is a way to disable the write cache for external drives. This is not available for Mac OS X. This would prevent this rather common occurrence of a plug accidentally becoming disengaged when the drive is not in the process of writing. This reduces the odds but I still think apple, in order to become clearly superior, needs a better solution.
I know Apple has experimented with ZFS would this not eliminate this possibility of this kind of disaster? Is this in Snow Leopard desktop? I know they are thinking this is a business customer focused technology but clearly if it can eliminate this kind of thing then I think it is extremely useful to their non server customers. Perhaps there are other ways of dealing with this issue but ZFS is designed to deal with these issues. HFS+ is extremely fragile to disk corruption.
I know my situation is not that uncommon and this is not the first time this has happened to me with an external drive. You would think I had learned. I hate to think of how many other people have had the same thing happen to them.
