I connot burn a DVD. I get the message "The burn to the HL-DT-ST DVDRW GS23N drive failed. The burn failed because of a medium write error." I re-booted, tried different brands of DVDs and slowed the burn speed with no results.

i'm trying to burn a Windows 7 ISO my brother got from some ACM subscription thing. Anyway, every time i try to burn it, it says "Unable to burn "(cd name)". (The burn failed because of a medium write error.)". Why is this happening? Is it the superdrive or the DVD-Rs? My computer is the Macbook pro with 2.4GHz intel core 2 duo cpu and with 2GB of 676MHz DDR2 SDRAM. The DVD-Rs i'm trying to use are Sony branded.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI keep trying to burn a CD-R, and every time itunes stops burning halfway through and i get this error message, "Attemp to burn a disc failed. Burn failed due to a medium write error." I am using memorex CD-R's and have tried with 4 times with different CD's. Is this a software or hardware problem? Any info would be awesome.
View 24 Replies View Relatedall of a sudden a little while ago (after some apple update, don't remember which tbo) i cannot burn any media, well, 98% of the time.. It starts up and then instnaly goes to finishing burn, and spits it out with a "fail burn because of a medium write error". This happens with 2 brans of media i have, both of which worked flawlessly before, and popcorn, toast as well as trying disc utility. i need to burn dvds for work and so on, but can no longer.
View 24 Replies View RelatedWe're having trouble with a Time Machine backup. Twice in the last three days, the backups failed with the error message that the backup disk image is already in use.I noticed that the partition containing the backup sparse bundle is mounted twice in /Volumes -- /Volumes/X and /Volumes/X-1. The error message refers to /Volumes/X-2.The icon that appears on the desktop has not cleared as if it's still doing a backup.Looking at the sparsebundle directly gives me the "verificationstate" as 1 -- I recall reading that this is supposed to 0. Other values:
verificationdate == 2012-06-05, and VerificationExtendedSkip == false.Note that the backup drive is attached to another Mac still running Leopard. This is run fine for years over a gigabit network.

I have one of the older macbooks [the ones that were given out during summer '07, that came with the free ipod nano], and it used to burn cds fine but today I tried inserting a cd and it burned three songs and then said burn medium error. now when i put in a cd there is some scratching and whizzing and other random noises, and after a few minutes it spits it out without asking what I want to do with it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI went to burn a CD today and continue to get the error message:
Sense key=medium error
Sense code= OX73, OX03
I had this problem before but thought it was a bad disk, when I would put another one in it would burn fine.
When I went to burn a new one today, using the same disks that I previously used I would get the above error. I am using Toast Titanium 5.2, Sony discs.
I have bootcamp installed and Win7 64 bit on that partition. I can drag and drop files from WIn7 to the Mac Drive ... but I can not drag and drop from the MAC desktop to the BootCamp Drive or any folder. I have the drive set for sharing ... but the Privledges ar READ ONLY .. in the "get info" screen. but ti seems to fixate on problems installing WIN7 ... I'm well past that I just want to copy and paste from each drive backa nd forth!

I didn't get a chance to read all the features. So hoping someone will answer this one quickly with a source link of somekind. Will Snow Leopard support read/write capability to NTFS partitions?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am sure many of you heard that Snow Leopard was supposed to have native read/write for NTFS partitions. Apple supported NTFS R/W in older SL builds but I guess decided to not to go with it for some reason, however support is still present. For this, you need to modify your /etc/fstab file to mount NTFS partitions for read and write.
First, uninstall NTFS-3G/Paragon if installed.
Open Terminal.app (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal)
Type "diskutil info /Volumes/volume_name" and copy the Volume UUID (bunch of numbers).
Backup /etc/fstab if you have it, shouldn't be there in a default install.
Type "sudo nano /etc/fstab".......................

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an imac with leopard OS and a macbook pro with snow leopard on it, and I can't seem to connect the two computers. Even when they are directly connected with ethernet cable, I can see the imac but not connect with it. I can connect to the macbook from the imac, but not vice-versa. My network is ethernet through linksys WRT610 router. Repeated attempts to connect from the macbook result in "connection failed" message and "imac may not exist or is not available."
View 7 Replies View Related1) I had some problems after changing my acct. name, then changing it back again. I thought it was all sorted out, but then started getting an error message when I try to rip CDs in iTunes: You don't have write access for your iTunes Media folder or a folder within it. To change I tried Get Info & have RW permission, so I don't know what to do about that. Other than ripping CDs, iTunes seemed to be working fine however after a week of the above problem, it has developed something new that may be related. I can no longer use Get Info within iTunes to correct or add to entries about the albums like composer, tracks, disk, etc Perhaps that is another RW permission issue.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI took the advice of people online and created a sparse image file as a way of password protecting folders on my hard drive. Worked well for a while. These days, when I try to add or delete files from that sparse image, I get error 61 code. Why can't I write/delete from that mounted image anymore?
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe one response I had was: 'alex try putting your mac os cd in and restart the system holding down the letter d key and let me know what happens.' unfortunately I can't find my system disc... will I need to buy a new one? here's a the problem: I have a PPC G5 iMac 2.1GHz, 1.5GB. The Internal Hard drive is 250GB in total and partitioned into 4 sections. After working fine for ages I suddenly found I can't copy files into one of the partitions. Initially I got an error message saying: "DS_store could not be tead or written. (Error code 36)" I used Disk Utility to clean up the hard drive. Which didn't help. Got a copy of Disk Warrior(4.1) to try a more effective clean up. There were a few errors that found and fixed, but i still got the same error message. Then found a utility called DS_Store Cleaner to try and force it to remake the DS_Store files. This got rd of the DS_Store message but I'm still left with another error 36 message and still unable to properly copy. The message then said: "The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "example file.doc" could not be read or written. (Error code -36).
I have also got hold of a copy of techtool pro (4.6.1) and run everything - basic, intermediate and advance scans. Everything (aside from a few minor errors on other partitions - which it cleared up easily) was fine, that partition showed no errors at all. I didn't do the full tests on the system partition though as I haven't used the e-drive function yet. The problem has been ongoing since late March.Just today I found the same problem in another of my partitions: "The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "example file.doc" could not be read or written. (Error code -36).This happens when trying to copy to either of those partitions or trying to save anything to either of them. What might be causing this and what should I do next? with the first partition to have problems I am unable to copy/write any file size (eg KB size files) with the most recent partition I found I could copy a 2.3MB Jpeg. The problem occured when I tried to copy a 680MB .mov file (there was enough space - about 1.8GB)
Anyone know what is behind error -8084? I'm getting it when trying to copy files to or from a networked PC server which was accessible yesterday. I can view and browse the networked drive no problem. To my knowledge nothing has changed with the PC or Mac, and Event Viewer in Windows doesn't list any errors between then and now.

I have a config file, /etc/my.cnf that has permissions set via the finder gui to have read/write for anyone that's an "admin". My user is an admin (turns out I'm the only user as well), but when I open this file (it's plain text) in text edit it gives me an error on save saying that I don't have permissions for the folder that it's in. I can, however, use nano via the terminal and modify the file without any issues. I don't want to set read/write permissions on /etc to everyone, so how do I make it so TextEdit (and thus other programs having the same problem) can write to that file?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Late 09 15" MBP and a WD 1TB external HD. I've never had a problem until now. I start up the hard drive, then it loads up fine and the Mac recognizes it just fine. As soon as I try to copy something - doesn't matter how big it is - I get an error and at the end it says "(Error code - 36)". It just says the file cannot be read or written. Weird thing is I can access everything on the hard drive. Anyone have any tips before I try reformatting the HD?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI was able to install Snow Leopard without any problems - but I can't do a Time Machine backup to my Time Capsule. The drive is not recognized and I get a "25299" error which refers to a problem with my keychain. I've gone into Keychain Utility and (several times) have deleted all the Time Capsule entries, but the problem keeps replicating itself. I was able to run backups earlier today and also reset the settings on the Time Capsule, so I'm sure it's not a problem with the drive.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running into an issue (a new issue) with my mbp. Every time I run the software update, it seems to download all the files just fine. Once it tries to install, it tells me an error has occurred, although it doesn't go into too much detail. I tried repairing the disk permissions, then I tried clearing /Library/Updates/.
The updates I have available are: iMovie Update 8.0.6, iPhoto Update 8.1.2, Mac OS X Update 10.6.3, Brother Printer Software Update 2.3, Airport Base Station Update 5.5.1, iTunes 9.1.1, and Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 3.2.

I finally upgraded to Snow Leopard. I have some older software and everything was working fine, so I delayed. I have an Intel 2 x 2.66 Dual Core. Now, I keep getting an error whenever I try to run Time Machine. So far, this is what I have done: Used disk Utility, Disk Warrior, then disk utility again (erased back up drive), then downloaded and reinstalled using the 10.6.8 combo update. Disk Utility again. Tried to backup and got the same error: The backup was not performed because an error occurred while copying files to the backup disk. Â
After reading online I downloaded and installed backup buddy (I think) Anyway, this is the error that it gives: Starting standard backup?Backing up to: /Volumes/Backup/Backups.backupdb?Backup content size: 91.4 GB excluded items size: 65.6 MB for volume Knight/Freelance?No pre-backup thinning needed: 109.60 GB requested (including padding), 364.91 GB available
