OS X :: Installing OS X Leopard On Multiple Owned Computer?
Apr 12, 2010
I was wondering if I could install OS X Leopard retail version on more than one computer which I own. Basically I have an imac and a ibook G4, my imac is running on Tiger 10.4.11 and my ibook just had a new hard drive installed and is currently without any OS as the original owner doesn't have the original disks. So, I find myself needing to buy a retail version of either Tiger or Leopard and the only thing that makes sense to me is to upgrade my imac to Leopard and install the same on my newly acquired ibook. By doing this am I doing wrong? I mean I own both computers and they are only used by me so should it really cause problems?
I have a macpro setup with two partitions.Originally one partition assigned to Snow Leopard.I log in using a network user (using OSX server) and that user has local Admin rights.I setup a new instance of Snow Leopard on the secondary Partition and logged in using the network user. This had the effect of using the partition 1 Home directory for this user and I can't get the secondary partition to use itself for storing the users home directory. The workaround I have is to log in to Partition 2 snow leopard with a local admin user then temporarily rename the Users folder on partition 1. Next login to partition 2 as the network user, then everything gets created on partition 2 as expected. Finally rename the Partition 1 Users folder back. Now I can log in to either partitoin with the same user and have different local home setups.
Anyone else had this or is there a better procedure for setting up multiple partitions? The same happens with LION. I need to keep a snowleoapard partition with all the setup I currently have, but start a new LION partition.I don't want any cross contamination, hence the requirement for separation.
just need a quick answer.... i have a copy of leopard that i installed on my macbook and i want to install it on my gf's as well... can this be done? or is it like windows and you can only install it on one computer per copy.
I've searched for some time now and haven't seem to come up with a solution. I'm trying to Install leopard on my Imac, but every time I run into the "Software cannot be installed on this computer" message.
I am installing a bigger hard drive for my Macbook pro, when I bought leopard I only paid for it to licensed on 1 comp. How can I keep leopard if I install the new hard drive?
I have set up an automator service that TAR's a folder into an archive for me and it works quite nicely. Idealy however, I would like to be able to highlight several folders, right click and have automator tar each folder into it's own TAR archive, but do it one by one. Â
[Code]...
I'm not 100% sure so I guess it would be a good time to verify, is there a problem with having the system try to TAR multiple folders at one time? If it is not a problem then I guess this discussion itself is pointless and I can simple right click on each folder and select "TAR Folder" and just wait until they're all finished. I would think that it would be ideal for the system to do each one individually and not try to do them all at one time.Â
are Mac and third party apps in general (if its possible to generalise?)
The reason I ask is that on Win XP (my iMac is "in the post" :-) its hit and miss what happens when you install an app. Sometimes they ask if this install is for multiple users, other times they don't (iTunes being one of the worst offenders) and then the first time another user logs on or uses the app they get a very confusing (to them) license acceptance screen.
I just received some fonts from a professor, specifically a very nice set of Helvetica Neue. I tried to install the font using Suitcase and I get a warning sign saying that the name of the new font conflicts with that of the Mac OS X System Font that is necessary for reading text. I'm wondering how to get around this...? Can I have both versions of Helvetica Neue installed, or do I have to deactivate the system font?
My Activity Monitor says this thing is hogging my CPUs, my laptop is getting very warm and I can hear the fans going full blast. I'm using Lion 10.7.3 and have a MacBook Pro.
Info: MacBook Pro (15-inch 2.53 GHz), Mac OS X (10.7.3)
Just bought a used MacBook5,1 and need to load a bunch of fonts to support Illustrator, etc. Is there a way to select and drag multiple fonts over to the MacBook instead of installing them individually? Ideally, I'd like to replicate the fonts in my 24" iMac. Is this a simple copy/paste procedure?
So my wife spilled a lot of hot cocoa on my MacBook last week and it gave me an excellent excuse to upgrade. Luckily I backed it up using time machine in October. So I found a unibody MacBook with a 250gb HD for a great deal on craigslist and snagged it up. I already loaded snow leopord onto it, but here are my questions: 1.) How do I erase everything from the first owner to get it like a fresh MacBook? 2.) How do I restore all the stuff from my time machine backup to get it like my old MacBook was set up?
to two blue screens.. I was told to Re install.. "archive and install" to be specific .. Snow leopard.. In a tragic fire i lost alot of things.. one of which was my key code to abletonlive.. If i archive and install snow leopard again to fix my boot up problem.. Will it ask me for a keycode for abletonlive?.. Or will all my applications run as they did prior to having my boot up problem, after archive and install is ran with snowleopard again
I upgraded to Maverick on a previously owned Macbook Pro OSX 10.9.4, and when trying to get updates, the previous owners's Apple Id shows and their password is required. what canI do?
Info: MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4), previously had mountain lion
Is it possible to have mail signature set up on my macbook pro available on my other mac devices, lie mac mini or ipad. I would like to have it on a server or icloud so they stay in sync.
We have one mac book, two iphones and an ipad and are having trouble syncing them all to the one computer.I have set up a different user account (with the itunes library shared across all users) for one iphone and ipad (who belong to the one person). However when we connect these devices it states that they have already been synced with an itunes account and will need to erase it to do so. They iphone was set up with an old computer and the new ipad through icloud. I have selected to manually manage the music (both with the old and new computer) but itunes keeps telling me it will have to erase the iphone/ipad to sync with this computer - all we really want to do is put music on the devices but definitely don't want to loose the contacts and all the other information.
how to install the Lion OS on more than one computer? I downloaded and installed Lion on my iMac today, but want to do the same for my other two computers as well. Is there a way to find the DMG file and save it onto a flash drive instead of downloading it all over again? I searched using Spotlight and could not find the downloaded file anywhere.Â
I have my iTunes library stored on a NAS, UNRAID, and I currently do not have my files copied into the iTunes library. They reside on the UNRAID in a movies and movies folder, so the iTunes library itself is fairly small.
However, this is what I would like to do. Since I have several AppleTV and several other Macs running. I'd like to keep one Mac on 24/7 and have iTunes open all the time pointed to my NAS iTunes.
Downloaded OSX Lion to my laptop. I want to install it on my desktop directly because bandwidth is slow. Can't find OSX 11 installation file on the laptop. How do go about the transfer and install to the desktop
I'm finally switching from MobileMe to iCloud. I need to install OS X Lion and I'm looking for tips on backing up my iMac before I download and install Lion.
how do I get multiple websites and information on my screen at the same time? I am learning wordpress and need to have its instruction page up beside my blog to learn.
I have multiple iphones, one for personal use and one for work. I would like to backup and recharge both on my MacBook Pro but do not want the information on the personal one to be on the work one. My personal iPhone is 64 GB and the work one is 16 GB so the data from my personal iPhone would would not fit on the work iPhone Both are running iOS 7.1.2 and the MBP is 10.9.4
I have the 32-bit Windows Beta installed on VMWare on my MacBook, and I want to install it in bootcamp on my iMac. Can I use the same iso and just burn it on to a DVD and use the samie product key from Microsoft or do I need to download another copy- will Microsoft let me download another 32-bit copy.
when i was installing xp with bootcamp the computer restarted (after i chose my paition and copy some files) then i eject the disc, however it cannot boot from the partially installed disk.. it said disk error, please press any key to restart
I just finished with the installation of windows XP SP2 on my MacBook Air, it all went fine.. but at the moment when I inserted my Leopard disk in order to install the drivers, the screen turned blue and the computer rebooted by itself in a matter of seconds. I've tried 3 times by now and keep doing the same.
