May 30, 2010I currently have itunes on two accounts set to access a library at /Users/shared/iTunes/. The problem is if iTunes is running on one account and I try to launch it on the other, it gives an error saying it doesn't have write access. It needs to stay running on one for my appletv. Is there a way to start it and have all accounts have access to it as a single process? Run it as root?

Jun 25, 2014We have a Mac with separate user profiles for each family member. Each family member also has their own iTunes with their own Apple ID. When we tried to download iTunes content from the cloud to one of the profiles from their own iTunes account, we received a message that the computer was associated with a different Apple ID and if we changed the authorization, the other AppleID would be blocked for 90 days. How can we deal with this issue and have each user download iTunes content onto their own profiles on the same Mac?

Jun 17, 2014I am running out of room for all my music, movies etc, so have purchased an external drive for all my media. Â
All files are currently under the "shared" portion of the hard drive. It is set up so that different users are accessing different files in their libraries (eg my husband has his music, I have mine), but none is accessing everything. We had it like this to make it easier to manage our individual iphones, ipads etc, without having tracks that we both use duplicated in the hard drive. And its been great.Â
My problem is that I now want to move all the media to an external drive, and everything I have read recommends doing this through the itunes library. I am concerned that only one persons stuff will be moved by doing it this way, leaving the other missing files. If I simply move the folder, will it work to just point each library to the new destination? Some things I have read indicate that this won't be successful and that itunes won't find the new files. Â
Also, a small(ish) thing, while I am at it I would be quite keen to implement the new file organisation system with Music, Movies etc all on the same level. But not sure when or how to go about that with this setup.Â
Am I best to set up a new user, and import ALL folders into itunes, then move it within that itunes? Or should just moving the folder and pointing each itunes to the new location work?

Feb 22, 2008we have a macbook pro running Leopard. My wife and I have separate user accounts on the single laptop and keep the music in one central Public folder (both or our iTunes are pointed to this public folder). For some reason, my wife is unable to make any changes to song info (album art, change genre, etc.). However, she can play the music, update her Nano, import music, etc. The only thing she can't do is make changes to the song info. This isn't an issue with my account because I am the primary user account on the computer. We are both set up as Admin and I have assigned Read/Write privileges to all files. Does anyone have any idea what the issue could be? Tech support/program specialist has no idea.

For example, my Macbook has two tv seasons of The Wire that does not appear on my PC iTunes. Also, there are a number of apps on my PC that I don't have on my Mac notebook. This is especially annoying as I sync my iPhone 4 most frequently with my desktop.

Jun 4, 2012We have one mac book, two iphones and an ipad and are having trouble syncing them all to the one computer.I have set up a different user account (with the itunes library shared across all users) for one iphone and ipad (who belong to the one person). However when we connect these devices it states that they have already been synced with an itunes account and will need to erase it to do so. They iphone was set up with an old computer and the new ipad through icloud. I have selected to manually manage the music (both with the old and new computer) but itunes keeps telling me it will have to erase the iphone/ipad to sync with this computer - all we really want to do is put music on the devices but definitely don't want to loose the contacts and all the other information.

Feb 12, 2010I have my iTunes library stored on a NAS, UNRAID, and I currently do not have my files copied into the iTunes library. They reside on the UNRAID in a movies and movies folder, so the iTunes library itself is fairly small.
However, this is what I would like to do. Since I have several AppleTV and several other Macs running. I'd like to keep one Mac on 24/7 and have iTunes open all the time pointed to my NAS iTunes.

My account is the primary user account, and my iTunes library is stored in this account. My wife would like to put music on her iPhone so she can run, but I can't seem to access the music library thru her account. I know the files are all on the hard drive regardless, so I just need to know how I can make iTunes on my wife's account access the library that's there. I've tried the steps I could find on Apple's website, but I can't seem to make it work. I'm running the latest versions of everything - even tho the post says I'm running 10.9.1, I'm actually running 10.9.4

To be clear, we have separate accounts and separate iTunes libraries within our respective accounts, each containing some movies.
I've read several threads that say "turn on sharing in iTunes" so I did that, but it isn't working. I can see the content in iTunes itself, but nothing is showing up in Front Row. Does anyone know A) if this is possible and B) how to do it?

Mar 12, 2012I'm trying to find the easiest solution to our family music situation. 4 users, 4 devices (ipods, ipad, imac, pc laptops), and 4 different musical song interests. I'm sure there are millions of households that have the same exact situation. I want to be able to pull up only my musical library, not my kid's music, and then easily synch it to my ipod. Everyone in the family wants to do this same thing. I have spent alot of time trying to search the forums/internet and there does not seem to be one "most popular" solution. I did setup iCloud for each family member using a different Apple ID than my main Apple ID, and I'm happy that ALL the music shows up on my ipad. But between iCloud, MobileMe, Home Sharing it all gets very confusing. Some say to setup multiple computer login accounts, and others say to setup 1 playlist for each family member and synch from that playlist. Â
I would think 1 itunes account allows you to easily share a purchased song with 4 users, instead of buying songs twice.Â
So here are a few of my questions-
1-Is it best to have only 1 itunes account and then synch all devices off of 1 main computer? Â
2-Or since we each have iCloud accounts, will they be able to synch their ipods from their own pc laptop?Â
3-And when they synch, what is the easiest way to exclude other users music in itunes? (other than unchecking hundreds of artists)Â
4-Or setup 4 separate computer login accounts on the imac and then keep 1 itunes account? If so, how does this work when they open itunes? Â

Lets say I install it on my MacBook Pro and that in a few months I buy a SSD to replace my current HDD. I would probably opt to go for a clean install (I am pondering whether or not to do it now) and copy over some important files. Would this work? Or would the install disk see my new SSD as another computer?

When I try access one of the other three accounts through Finder, the folders have red minus signs on them. If I try to open one, I get an error message about not have the right authorities. However, I've given all four user accounts administrator access.

Jun 11, 2012I recently logged into [URL] to change my Apple ID. Everything worked fine and I was able to change and sync everything on my iPhone and iPad, except for my iMac. When I enter the Users & Groups section to change the Apple ID associated with my Admin account, it only allows me to add additional Apple IDs and delete those, but not the original Apple ID. I've tried double clicking on the original Apple ID and change it there, but it only creates a different Apple ID when I click done. Now I have multiple Apple IDs and I only want to see one.

Aug 24, 2014I have had the problem of getting the message that the computer name is already in use on the network (it isn't) and adds a number to my user computer i.e. username Mac Pro (3). It just changed last week to (2), and the name change interfered with several pieces of software that look for a specific user. Now it is up to (3).Â
I removed the (3) behind the the name in the System Preferences/Sharing, but the username Mac Pro (2) now shows in the shared computers, will not connect, and I can't find a way to remove it
