OS X :: Installing Leopard On PPC Via Intel Mac?

Dec 6, 2008

From what I've read, Leopard is the first Apples first truly Universal OS, thus the basis for this question.

The OS is Leopard Server, the Mac(s) are a dual 500MHz Powermac G4, and a 2.0 Core Duo Macbook Pro.

The OS does not want to install on the Powermac, it comes back with issues no matter what I do.

So, could I install Leopard Server on my Powermac by putting it into Target Disk Mode and installing it via my MBP?

MacBook Pro :: Intel Hard Drive Not Recognized When Installing Leopard

Jul 15, 2010

I have a Macbook pro 17" 2008 model, and I just bought a new 160gb Intel X-25m solid state hard drive. I installed it into the mac with no problem, but when I boot up with the OS boot disc 1, the drive doesn't show up in the "destination" screen. No drives are there. When I open Disk Utility the drive is there, and shown as read/write, but when I boot with option held down the drive isn't there either. I can't even do any repairs on the drive in the disk utility.

Software :: Installing Old Leopard Alternate Boot With Snow Leopard

Oct 17, 2009

I have a tower Mac Pro with Snow Leopard running on it.Unfortunately one of the software that I use doesn't have yet a Snow Leopard update. So I am thinking maybe I can install older version of Leopard on one of the internal drives (i have 3 additional internal drives), so I can boot my computer from either Leopard or Snow Leopard, depending on needs (i don't want to get rid of Snow Leopard).

I never installed OS X system before, so I am a bit scared. The internal drive is ready, I have the old Leopard on disks, what are the next steps to take?

OS X :: Installing Snow Leopard On To Leopard Macbook?

Dec 21, 2010

I'm trying to install Mac OS X Snow Leopard on to my macbook but I keep getting this error.

"mac os x installation couldn't be completed" I get this message usually within 5 minutes of installation.

My macbook specs are...
Mac OS X Version 10.5.8, 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM

I've already tried repairing the disks. (I repaired my leopard with the snow leopard CD because I couldn't find the leopard CD.

I heard it was fine to do.) I would have tried to verify and repair the partition but the buttons seemed to be grayed out for some reason.

Here is the error log...

OS X :: Installing Leopard Without A DVD Possible?

Oct 28, 2007

Is there any way to work around this problem:

I just bought the Leopard family pack for my Mac Pro and my 1 Ghz PowerBook 12". I loaded Leopard onto the Mac Pro with no problem--but when I tried to install it on the PB 12", I discovered that my PowerBook's DVD player has died. (There had been some indications of flakey behavior over the past few months, and none of the other DVDs I tried would work--they would just get ejected.)

My question is this: is there any other way to install Leopard onto my PB without using the DVD? I do have a working DVD player on the Mac Pro, as well as a myriad of hard drives and iPods that could be used in disk mode.

OS X :: Installing Leopard Without A DVD?

Feb 10, 2009

i recently purchased an intel imac off craigslist. i want to do a fresh install of leopard on it (it already has leopard installed, i just want to get all the old info and programs off of it). the problem is that it didn't include any of the original discs. i know that technically i should buy a retail version of it but i don't feel morally obligated to since it already had leopard legally installed (flame if you must). i don't want to go to the time and effort to download a copy of the dvd from various unsavory sources so what i'm wondering is if it's possible to make a bootable partition on an external drive from one of my other macs then copy it onto the imac. and if so, how?

OS X :: Installing Snow Leopard On New HDD

Jul 31, 2010

Well in my quest to upgrade my MBP 5,1 I got my memory and a 500 GB Seagate Momentus XT from Newegg. I'm enjoying 4 GB of RAM now. So, I'm debating with myself about what to do. Obviously, a new HDD is a great opportunity to install Snow Leopard and start from a clean slate. Or I was thinking about cloning my current Leopard install to an external HDD with CCC, but I'm having trouble understanding how I would accomplish getting it back. I'm thinking you can do this by booting from the install disc, but I'm not sure. So, if I go the SL route, will I be able to use Migration Assistant and an external enclosure (if anyone could recommend one, that would be great!) for the old boot drive to move my important stuff over?

Software :: Installing Leopard ?

Jun 18, 2009

I'm really new to mac, know very little of the ins and outs of OS X. Was recently gifted my brother's Macbook (he got one of those new Pro's). He gave me two Leopard recovery disks (Mac OSX install 10.5.2) and told me to format and install a new OS.

I inserted the 1st disk and after selecting the language received the error: "This software cannot be installed on this computer". Now I contacted my brother, who told me to format it first.

Being a smart-ass computer user (I usually use Debian linux), that sounded easy enough, so I erased the MACHD partition in using the disk utility, effectively deleting any operating system that was already on there.

Then I tried again but it didn't work.

I've tried googling my error and have searched through quite a few forums/ support sites, where the most common suggestion is to do something called "archive and install". However, I do not think I can access this option.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Installing X11 For It?

Jul 1, 2012

Some weeks ago I accidentally deleted the app x11 from my iMac (I have the version 10.6.8). Now I am trying to install a game that needs that app. I've tried to download and re-install the x11 from the Apple website, but when I'm installing it, a message shows up saying that "x11 can't be installed. a more recent version of this software is already installed". but that's impossible, since I deleted it! I've been looking through my iMac with the Finder and the app x11 doesn't show up, so it is definitely not in my computer. What can I do to install the x11 in my iMac again? I don't think it's possible that the app still remains in my computer.

OS X :: Installing Panther To Snow Leopard

Oct 29, 2009

After 5 years with 10.3.9 on an iBook, I've bitten the bullet and bought one of the new iMacs. The transfer has gone fairly well, but I'm having trouble moving my address book and keychain data across to the new machine.

They didn't come across using the Migration Assistant: the Snow Leopard Keychain won't accept anything exported from the Panther version. If I export the address book as V-cards from the old system (the only means of export, the new systems asks me whether I really want to import n cards, but after I say yes nothing appears in the bbok.

It's al very frustrating, (and not very Apple-like!) I'm on the verge of doing the whole thing manually, one address and one keychain entry at a time, which seems quite daft.

PowerPC :: Installing OSX Leopard On EMac?

I found a great deal on an eMac for the rest of my family to use. Before getting started, I wanted to reinstall Leopard using a disk image. Obviously with an eMac, I am not able to boot and install using a USB flash drive so I used an old iPod with a firewire connection and put the disk image on the iPod. The problem I am having is when I hold down the "option" key on startup, the iPod drive does not show up. Am I doing something wrong? To my understanding, I thought I could use an old iPod to install OSX
