ITunes :: Airplay Sliders Not Showing?
Jun 2, 2012I have been using Airplay and an Airport Express to stream iTunes to my Harman Kardon speakers for the last 3 years. This morning I find that the volume sliders are missing for my Hi-fi AE in the 'select multiple speakers' window and I cannot select them.
The AE has a green light and shows up fine in Airport Utility. Repairing permissions and restarting has not helped. It was working fine last night when I shut my iMac down, and nothing has changed!

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Sliders To Scroll Not Found At Bottom In Window
Feb 20, 2012Lion: there are sliders that allow us to scroll up and down a list in a column. the little arrows that were at the top or bottom of the scrolls ( in panther) that allowed slower, incremental, scrolling through lists are gone. Are they hidden or really gone? Also My itunes window is too long and I can't reach the bottom right corner to resize the window. what is the hidden trick to decrease the length of the window. Quitting and restarting hasn't done it...?

Jan 16, 2010I started using Time Machine on Jan. 9th with an initial backup onto my LaCie Firewire drive (MBP 17inch SSD with three partitions). That backup was about 55GB. I am using the 'regular' settings on Time Machine - the LaCie Drive is the only item on the exclusion list (I guess Time Machine put it there itself). Since then TM does its thing every hour. When I enter TM I see all those backups. However, there's a big difference between the 'NOW' and all the backups, even the one just an hour ago. E.g., the download folder has now 47 items, whereas the backups all show 35 (the number of the initial backup). The Entourage database has also grown, but any backup shows the size of the initial backup.
I verified this by restoring a database and opening it in Entourage and sure enough the last message shows a date of Jan. 9th. TimeTracker shows many backups since the initial backup with 0 bytes or some smallish number of KB - only a few are in the MB range (total is around 150MB since Jan. 9th). Bottom line, TM does not really backup incrementally. Has anybody experienced this malfunction? What would be the solution to this problem? Any tweaks, settings to change? I'm using a Firewire 800>400 cable (9-pin to 6-pin, 24K gold-plated connectors) from SIIG - could this be the cause? But why would the initial backup work just fine plus all the others allegedly being performed?
OS X V10.7 Lion :: Time Machine Not Incremental Despite Disk+device Names Matching
Apr 6, 2012So after replacing my OS X disk drive with a larger-capacity one, I make sure that the drive has the same name (Macintosh HD) it had before.Â
Then I go to "Sharing" in the preferences and use the name "Alex's MacBook", with the exact same type of single quote, to match the name used on the TM machine disk (under Backups.backupdb).Â
Next I am expecting Time Machine to do an incremental backup.Â
No such luck: Everything gets copied.Â
What happened? I have had trouble in the past with Time Machine not allowing me to see the history when inside the star-wars-like TM interface, but the files were all there (I could still sudo and copy back anything I needed by hand). The backups were incremental.Â

Jun 23, 2014I ran an experiment with Time Machine. Last Monday I attached a freshly erased 2TB Time Machine external HD to a Mac Mini with 400GB of data on the internal 1TB HD with no exclusions. I left the Mac Mini off network -- no wifi, no ethernet -- and did not use it for one full week. Today the 2TB Time Machine HD has only 35GB of free space.Â
Why is Time Machine filling up the HD with incremental backups when the computer is not in use?

Jul 13, 2009I have a Mac Book Pro. Due to the total amount of files and data, I keep my media files on an external drive connected via USB to my Airport AEBS. Of course, I connect wirelessly to the AEBS.I use Time Machine to back up my computer onto an second external drive also connected to my AEBS in the same fashion.However, TM does not allow me to choose the files or folders from the external AEBS drive containing all of my media files to also incrementally back them up using Time Machine. It should. I wish it would. Why won't it? Can I make it work that way? If so, how? TM is the best incremental backup program I've seen. I really want to back up my media that way. But I don't want to tether my laptop by connecting an external drive directly to it, and I don't have the space to store my media files directly on my laptop.

Jan 4, 2009I'm running a PowerBook G4 and I have recently run into some problems with kernel panic. I have bought and installed new ram, zapped the pram, and re-written the hard drive and I still have problems. The weird thing is, the computer only crashes when I move it. If I just sit still then it works fine, but if I move it from my lap to a table or something like that then I get the restart message. I have an appointment with the Geek bar tomorrow

Final Cut Pro X :: Automatic Movement Between Keyframes
Sep 3, 2014I have a question about a feature of Final Cut Pro X. I am working on a movie and wants to move a small block using keyframes.I placed an keyframe at 1:00:07 and another at 2:29:05.
Both keyframes have the position X: 0, and position Y: -850.0. But between the two keyframes, the block moves. At 1:54:18, the X:0, and the Y at -822.9. There are no further keyframes between the two i mentioned. I can put a keyframe at 1:54:18, but than he's going to move on both sides of the middle keyframe. I might use the wrong keyframes or something? Â

Whenever (usually) I do something which causes a high CPU load, my mouse cursor movement because extremely jerky. For some reason, even ejecting my USB hard drive (which takes about 20 seconds from when I tell it to eject to when it actually removes itself from my Desktop) causes my cursor to start going jerky.

Question: I have researched several forums, rumours and checked the 'don't buy now' page for buying recommendations. However, my real question is regarding typical pricing when the "new hotness" is released. Is it typical for the price of the new models to be higher than the current pricing? If I go out and buy a MacBook Pro next week, I don't mind if it turns out that I could have saved a hundred bucks or two when they start clearing out the "old" models in refurbs, but I don't want it to end up that I could have waited a week and paid the same price for a lot more....................

May 31, 2012I am using a Mac Book Pro with boot camp. When using windows there is no laggy feeling. This is not a skipping movement just a slight lag that makes it barely noticable but inaccurate, very annoying. I have tried many many mice and different softwares but that FLOATING feeling is always there on the Mac side but not the Windows 7. I have been an avid fan of Mac since way back. Classic never did this. I do not remember early versions of OSX doing it but I may not been aware of it.

IMac :: Cursor Speed - Change Rate Of Movement?
May 4, 2009Have spent many years with PCs, I can't get used to the speed of the cursor in the programs I use - web forms, emails, Pages etc. I don't mean the blink rate - I know how to change that. I mean the speed at which I can scan across lines of text. The cursor seems slower than my xp machines. What setting might I have missed? I don't recall being able to change the rate of movement across the lines in an xp machine.

When I drag something, window or icon, and release my finger from the trackpad to set it in place, if my finger promptly touches down on the trackpad again so I can proceed with other tasks, the dragged object actually remains in focus and continues being dragged. I found that I have to artificially force myself to wait roughly a full second before I could resume contact with the trackpad without continuing the object-drag. Is there any way to configure this differently, either within OSX or with a freeware program?

Dec 4, 2009Just bought an eyetv hybrid. I ran it through my dual G5 and sent it back to my tv and wasn't impressed with the video quality. It ran a little better on my new mac mini (I love the mini!!!) but was wondering what kind of performance I would get from the 250 when viewing HD Channels. Can I expect better performance from the 250 on HD channels or are the two models comparable? I noticed that the Hybrid seemed to lag somewhat when there was movement onscreen. Also, will I be able to get Comcast HD channels? I plan on upgrading to HD service soon.[My apologies if this has been addressed: I've searched through some of the threads and I didn't see anything make mention of the HD capability that is now available to 250.]

Feb 28, 2008Yesterday I had a Leopard software update which included new keyboard firmware. I did the update and the keyboard continued to function normally. This AM I booted my MacBook Pro and discovered the keyboard no longer responds to inputs. However, the MB does responds to an external USB keyboard.
Now I don't know if I have a sudden hardware problem or the MB keyboard is not working as a result of the firmware update. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? Can I go back to the earlier revision of the keyboard firmware?
Hmmm - while writing this I just realized I have a bootable image of my system made a few week back on an external drive - I'll have to try it.
