Anyone come across a problem where all the desktop icons disappear? I also cannot right click on my desktop to bring up a contextual menu, my machine appears to be running faultlessly apart from that. I have run Onyx to reset permissions and have checked the disk but cannot seem to find anything wrong.
Running OSX 10.10 on a quad core 2.66 Mac Pro.
I have a newly set up MacBook Pro with Lion 10.7.2. I have created a numbers file that is NOT saved on the Desktop. I have an icon of that file on the Desktop and can select it but the file doesn't exist. I have navigated to the folder as su in Terminal and the file doesn't exist. The icon shows on the Desktop though. The numbers document you can see above the selected is the numbers document that I saved after I had seen what I have described above. When I saved it there was no prompt to overwrite the file because it doesn't exist
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was trying to open an existing Numbers document saved to my desktop. It took me to the App Store, but I didn't have access to a Wireless network. If it needed an update, why does it require the update to open an existing/previously saved document?Â

i've been having a problem with my iMac that i just noticed recently. when i click on the desktop it used to make the finder my active application and would let me right click for the context menu with add folder etc. but i noticed the other day that it no longer does this. i don't know if i've disabled it somehow or if there's some kind of bug/glitch going on.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I was just using my computer normally when I was suddenly having an issue where I could not click on anything. I was forced to hard restart but it did not help. I am still able to navigate with the trackpad or my mighty mouse (wireless) but clicking with either does nothing.
After some searching I have reset the pram multiple times and have also done command+S at boot and run fsck. Resetting the pram worked once, but only for maybe 5 minutes. During that time I ran a permissions test, it corrected 2-3 things but that is it. I have tried booting from the leopard cd but it spits the cd out.
I'm doing some research that requires me to remote in to a windows pc. I have no problems if I have my mouse...but I don't always have it.
I was wondering if there's a known easy way to right click under windows 2000.
When i click an icon on my desktop it doesnt open i have to click it more then once and sometimes i have to click rapidly fast and more then once for it to open.

My macbook desktop is frozen, only desktop. Everything else works fine. I logged into my other account on the computer I have, the desktop is fine, I can right click the desktop and it will bring the menu up, however, on the side that I use frequently, I cannot right click on the desktop, NOR can I drag anything to the desktop. All my software is up to date, I tried booting up in safe mode, I also used the force quit and relaunch, restarted computer many times, still nothing. Also weird about this is that itunes deleted itself earlier today, I had to re-download and install it again. The problem is happening since then. Finally, I read somewhere I may need to re-boot my computer with the lion CD; however, I don't have the CD I downloaded from the app store!

Since I installed Yosemite, I cannot right click on the desktop to make a folder, I cannot drag any files or folders or anything to it or use it at all. It's nothing but a slate and useless. I figured it was a bad install so I reinstalled it today and got the same behavior. I wish I could revert to Mavericks and I tried with time machine but it wouldn't let me.
View 4 Replies View Relatedstart up the computer and all is fine it is really cool how you dont see the black screen or anything it is all smooth looking with the setup boxes but when it gets to where you should have the normal desktop this wierd program comes up instead. i cant see the start button or my computer or anything it is like some kind of other program on top of it that i cant quit. i have tried everything but when i click shut down it just shuts down the whole computer not getting me to my desktop.
View 18 Replies View RelatedThere's something like that in windows where you can actually have the shutdown/logoff/sleep buttons on the desktop as shortcuts...
Is there a way to create a desktop icon to make my mac sleep?
I know the keyboard shortcut but I'd prefer to click... and yeah going to the top-left corner and click on the apple button and go down to sleep is not quick
I have a MacBook Air and when go to double click a folder on my desktop nothing hsappens.I can select it but double clicking does not open it. This also happens in some of my applications as well.

I file has appeared on my desktop. I believe it's a temp file created while downloading something in Safari. When I try to delete it, I get "The item x can't be moved to the trash because it can't be deleted". I tried right click > Get Info, and nothing happens (the info dialog does not appear). I tried ls -al on my desktop, and the file doesn't appear in the list.

I've been ripping my hair out trying to find the answer to this.
In Numbers for Mac, I need to fill a column automatically with a series of integers (1 - 50) and then the next column with a function that interacts with the first column.
For example:
Column A - 1 - 5
Column B - (value in Column A * 5)
I can't figure out how to do it in Numbers When I try to fill column a with 1 - 50 all it does is fill all 1's and I cant find an option how to make that change so it automatically numbers when I highlight them.
The best I can describe is how in Excel you can type 1 in the first cell, then highlight a bunch of cells and the little box appears that lets you click "Fill Series"
I've seen some posts where one or a couple of these problems have arisen but not all simultaneously. The trash is there somewhere because I can delete but only via finder. The dock however cannot be coaxed back into existence and I can't activate any of the desktop icons by clicking on them. I also can't minimise the windows - the red and green buttons work fine but the yellow (although there and blinks when clicked) doesn't have any effect.

See above title. i get that there's the "degree(cell)" function, but there has to be an easier way to change the settings so you can just input in degrees rather than radians.
like how calculators have a degrees and radians mode, i find it so hard to believe that there isn't one in numbers. if there really isn't, this is an incredibly flawed program.

Starting a few days ago when I double click a folder on the desktop it no longer opens. Instead, I am taken to a new desktop window that shows the folder clicked plus all other items on the desktop. How do I restore the double click to open the folder? I have tried resetting the double click speed with no results.Â
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy workflow entails repetitive tasks that would be so much easier if I could set Leopard's (Safari's) default double-click functionality to select ALL text within the Google search box instead of having to use a triple-click. Does anyone know how to make this change to Leopard/Safari?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI had to dissassemble my wireless Mighty Mouse to clean it properly, as the trackball was unable to scroll up and down. As I had cleaned the trackball, I attached the two internal cables to their respective "slots" again and assembled the mouse.
Now my right button does the same as the left button (right click = left click). I tried dissassembling the mouse again, but I cannot see what I could have done wrong. After all, there are only two cables to attach and de-attach inside it.
I just bought a mighty mouse, happy as I was, plugged it in and started my ibook running OS X 10.3.9.I know the mighty mouse shouldn't have full functionality (as the software delivered with it is >10.4.2).The problem is that the right click doesn't work right. When I try to right click it sometimes takes the right click, sometimes takes it as a left click (which is extremely annoying in firefox or finder).
I have SteerMouse (I'm a windows/linux user too) installed but when I denstalled it the problem remained.
When I plugged the mighty mouse in my pc (at that time running windows) right click just worked. When using a cheap mouse (from pleomax) the right click on the ibook (with Steermouse installed) works all the time.
I find this al really confusing. Seems like it can't be the hardware because it works on windows, but it can't be the software because another mouse does work.
I noticed that when right clicking at the total right side near the "expose-button" (not a position my fingers lay naturally) right click works all the time. I don't hope this is normal?
I'll try and click on a link and nothing, then I click bookmrks in the menu bar, it works, then i can go back and be to click on the link and it'll work.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs the right click noise supposed to sound different to the left click? Mine does, is that normal?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've recently switched from the dark side to Apple and am converting an Excel spreadsheeet. The spreadshet keeps track of subscriptions, things that a re due once a year, etc.. One of the spreasheet's formulas uses 'NOW()'.. The user can specify a day-range, like 15, so that the spreadsheet would highlight due dates within 15 days..  MS handles dates in serial numbers which allows date comparisons ( I'm guessing you already know all of this ) .. anyway, For example, the user enters the renewal or due date in a certain cell and then the next cell would subtract that date's serial number from the current date's serial number using something like 'B3-NOW()'.. The resulting number could be cast to an integer and compared to the '15' .. and if the result is less than that, aka 'due within 15 days', then the cell would be highlighted red.. I gave up on the conditional formatting but I don't know how to use the equivalent of 'NOW()'..

View 3 Replies View RelatedHave used AppleWorks 6 for years - used for spreadsheet application. Range of sheet: A80 thru AG 80. Printing on Canon MX850 requires 2 (two) pages to legibly cover contents. Was told by Apple Tech to use "Numbers" application as found in Snow Leopard for future tech support, as AppleWorks is no longer recognized by Apple. Same spreadsheet was copied from AppleWorks to "Numbers". When asked to print, 48 (forty-eight) pages would be required! Apple Tech was unable to solve problem, after a one-hour telephone call with Level 2 Support.
