View 3 RepliesDoes anyone know how to get rid of all those status messages in iChat? Since installing Snow Leopard, there are a bunch of them. I could care less about people knowing I'm surfing the web, reading email, on the phone, etc. I prefer just "Available" and "Away" as those tell if I can chat or not.
I've tried:
- deleting all the status messages from the buddy list (no longer appear in the status message drop down menu of the buddy list, but still appear when you click the balloon icon in the menu bar)
- deleting all the .plist files to reset iChat (no luck)
So every time I finish watching a movie or TV show on computer and begin using my mouse/keyboard, I get an iChat alert asking if it wants to change my status back to "Available". How come iChat is automatically setting my status as Away and how do I make it so it doesn't do this anymore.

However, when I do this, my ichat status automatically goes to "Away". How can I make it so I stay "Available" so it looks like I'm still online?
View 1 Replies View RelatediChat was updated to 4.0.8 in 10.5.7 and I have a question regarding that. I searched and could not find any information. In 4.0.7, when I restart iChat it would log me in the status I quit the application in (say idle with my status text). Now in 4.0.8 when I open the App it always signs me in Available mode. Do you guys see this too? Is there a away to change this? I have chax and growl iChat installed, does it have anything to do with it?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI use iChat for Gtalk and AIM and so far I love it, except when I change my status to Away (red dot), it appears as idle (orange dot) to my Gtalk friends. I had a couple people wondering how my status was idle while we were chatting. Is there a fix to this?
Switching to another app like Adium is not an option.
is there anyway to change the color of the ichat icon manually, like going into system folders and change a few files?
I found out how to change the dock color on the desktop but i cant figure out how to change the color of my ichat icon (default blue).
ps when the heck is apple going to update ichat to a new version
It's a black circle with a white circle in the middle. What does it mean?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard. Unfortunately this disabled the remote management status icon in the menu bar? Any way to get it back? Before when I "screen shared" this computer the remote management status icon would appear in the menu bar, now it's gone. I tried enabling remote management but I can't authenticate when I try to connect from my Leopard PowerBook.

I am trying to remove a status icon for an application I uninstalled. When I try to drag it, nothing happens, so removing it by the "command"key & drag method isn't effective. Is there another way I can get rid of it?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running Leopard (10.5.5) on an Intel g5 iMac. I noticed this afternoon when trying to drop an app into my 'Applications' folder that I had to enter my password in order to do. Checking the 'Get info' pane for the folder I noticed that the permission status for 'everyone' was set to 'read only'. I have no idea how this happened but it must have been fairly recently as I was happily dropping apps into the folder only a few days ago. There are also two other 'names' in the panel labeled as 'unknown', one of whom has read & write permission and one of whom is also 'read only'.
There are only two user accounts on my mac and we are both administrators, so I don't know why there are so many entries under the 'Sharing and Permissions' section. So anyway, I unlocked the panel with my password and tried to flip the permission for everyone from 'read only' to 'read & write'. I got the following error dialogue: "The operation could not be completed. An unexpected error has occurred. Error code - 8076." I tried to add a new 'administrators' group to the permissions panel with read and write access but received the same error.
implement run app in system bar only (NOT on the Dock). It's like Wifi or Battery status.App should be run in background.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been using Adium for years, previously on my iBook and now on my new MacBook without any problems. Recently, it stopped working. I use my AIM and Jabber screennames on it. When I open it, it shows that I am connected and online. However, it tells me that none of my buddies are online, even though they are. My friends have also told me that I don't appear on their Buddy lists even when my Adium tells me I'm online.
I downloaded the latest version of Adium and this didn't help. It still does it. As far as I know, it's only the AIM that isn't working. I think the Jabber still works, but I am not positive. This also occasionally happens with my AIM app on my iPod Touch when it happens on my Adium. I am assuming this means there is something wrong with my AIM screenname and not necessarily with Adium? Do you think getting a new AIM screenname would help? It's definitely just the AIM that isn't working. Jabber works fine.
I love Mail but have become bored of the icon. Is it possible to change the icon the the Postbox one? still with the notifications on the dock.
Here's Postbox if you don't know what it is: [URL]
I am using ichat with my AIM account and it has worked fine. But yesterday it stopped logging me in. When I select available for my status I get a message saying "An unidentified AIM socket error has occurred". How do I fix this problem? I tried logging in using AIM on Windows Vista and it works fine so there is nothing wrong with my account. Also, I have deleted my aim account from ichat and re-addng it and I still get the same error.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been googling this for a bit, and I'm only seeing a single tutorial being copy pasted around from back on OSX 10.4. Since iChat has been updated several times since then, I'm not sure how viable the tutorial is.
I need to reinstall ichat after I uninstalled it from my 10.5.5 macbook (black) with OS X (panther). I do not have my cd's, lost them somewhere and I can't find any instructions online on how to reinstall my ichat without the CD.
View 16 Replies View RelatedI am in the process of setting up iChat on my spousal unit's iMac. I've already created a Jabber account, using her gmail address. That seems to work fine. Now I'd like to add an AIM account. When I click on "Get an iChat Account..." in the Account Setup window,It was my understanding that this signup gets you an AIM account, but it from the first line on the page, it seems to assume that you're using .Mac (even more oddly, since .Mac doesn't actually exist any longer). What am I missing here? Aren't AIM, MobileMe and .Mac accounts the same for purposes of iChat?

I have a MacBook with built in webcam, external webcam, and iChat. Next to everyone who has a Mac on iChat is the green box, but there is a phone icon rather than a video icon.
Video chats used to work, but suddenly they stopped. Clicking the green icon next to my name on top opens a box that days "My Build-in iSight" and I can see myself in that webcam, but can not make video chats. How can I fix this?
I made a aim account last year. I had no problem with it until yesterday when i couldn't log in. I thought it was nothing so I waited awhile but still nothing. it says "could not connect to Aim" and under it said "none." I really want to talk to my friends but I can't.
